Time to Say Goodbye…Wow, I didn’t think this would be as difficult as it is to “write” a goodbye. Putting into words what the JCC has meant to me is complicated. Not rocket-science complicated, but emotion-ally complicated. This place, with the exception of my family, has been my life. I honestly be-lieve that when I began in April 1990, I had no idea of the impact my work would have on me personally and professionally. I also had no idea of the thousands of people who would come in and out of “my” JCC and my life.

To say the least, I really wasn’t ready for the job. The early challenges, the losing sleep every night, often made me have doubts in what I was trying to accomplish. But, there are so many incredible people that came into my life. Their counsel and support helped me navigate those early years. The result has been a journey that has helped define who I am. The vision of a new JCC was always the carrot. First presented to me in 1990, it was a dream I carried with me everyday for 27 years. For me the idea of creating a JCC that would in some way touch people by supporting them, educating them, giving them a sense of belonging, has always been my guiding star.

The hundreds of staff and colleagues, the JCC’s Board of Governors, they have always been there for me, providing guidance, friendship, laughs and tears. It is a bond that few realize makes the JCC so special.

If I had one message that I would share with the river towns community, it is that the JCC is an institution to be cherished. I believe it can become a true jewel of the community, caring for those in need, laying the foundation for young families, filling the gaps and providing balance for working families, all while providing a sense of community and reminding us all that we are never alone. It is a jewel that should be nurtured so that it will continue to provide opportuni-ties for innovation and inspiration. But it also requires a sense of ownership. This is your JCC; make it your second home. I think that is why it is so hard to say goodbye. This JCC has been my second home, my second family. I thank you for allowing me be a small part of your lives, and I thank you for being such a big part of mine.

SAVE THE DATE: 2017 Lot Party

Sat, September 9!

RTS creates fun, social events — and does some good! We’ve decadently indulged in food truck fare at our Lot Parties; we’ve taken over a Main Street bar for a Band Night; we’ve cooled down with champagne after a spin class and we’ve practiced yoga with a 98 year old dance champ. And, we’ve packed lunch bags for Midnight Run, collected school supplies for Kids Kloset, and started a fund for the new JCC play-ground. We’re spur-of-the-mo-ment kind of people, so watch for future event announcements.

Aquatic Exercise ClassesAquatic Exercise is safe, effective, and fun for all ages and abilities—beginner to professional athlete.

Did you know? Water’s buoyancy reduces exercise’s impact on joints, while water’s resistance challenges muscles and minimizes pain. With 12 times the resistance of air, aquatic exercise burns even more calories than exercising on land!

Water WalkingLike all water exercises, Water Walking is easy on the joints while strengthening and building muscle tone. Water Walking is ideal for therapy, rehabilitation, or just good exercise while being a therapeutic aid, relieving stress, and improving cardiovascular fitness, balance, and range of motion. Classes take place in chest level water so non-swimmers are welcome.

Aqua HIITOur High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workout is designed for building endurance, toning and strengthening muscles, improving flexibility, and burning lots of calories, all while being gentle on joints and muscles. This class is an excellent aerobic workout. Classes take place in shallow-end water and are designed for healthier populations.

Deep H2O RunningThis class stresses basic techniques to effectively utilize the unique properties of deep water. Emphasis will be placed on posture and exercise tech-niques to strengthen and align your skeletal structure, build endurance, strengthen, and enhance your ability to redefine the use of your body for daily living.

Aqua ArthritisThis class is designed for people with arthritis or other conditions, incorporating gentle movements performed in warm water to increase or maintain range of motion, strengthen muscles, and enhance overall fitness. This class allows exercise without putting excess strain on the joints and muscles. Classes take place in chest-level water, so non-swimmers are welcome.
