Jessica Peterson looked at the poster with interest. Hmm.. now this could just be my means to an end, she thought.What perfect timing.

The suit looked expensive and the bachelor was none too shabby either. She scanned the small print for details of the prize but all she could see was an email address.

It never even occurred to Jessica that she might not win. Except for her current predicament, she pretty much alwaysgot what she set out for.



She hurried off to Belladonna Cove Public Library and wrote her bio with a sense of purpose that was bound toattract notice.

The thought of both fame and fortune was just too much for her to resist. And this show was a Sim Corporationproduction, which meant it was bound to be prime time. She would love to be a fly on the wall when Armandcaught sight of her on television. That would really show him.



Of course, Jessica was unwilling to admit to herself that she was also lonely. The freedom of the trailer park lefther with time to reflect, and she found herself thinking more of family and less of her romantic encounters.

She didn't regret the breakup, the thought of providing heir after heir for Armand was too much to bear. Butmaybe, just maybe he was the wrong man.

Her latest romance hadn't gone quite according to plan either...





She wasn't accustomed to waking up alone, it was normally her that snuck off during the night.

At their next rendezvous Carlos explained in a kindly manner, that he thought they should keep their options open and notconfine themselves to one sim.

Jessica bit her lip and wondered how to take this. It wasn't that she thought Carlos was her One and Only, he was aRomancer and amounted to no more than a pleasant distraction. It was just that she was too used to being in control andcalling the shots, and she had never had a partner tire of her before she had of them. It was a puzzling development.



Time to take charge again, she said to herself.

That bachelor is not going to know what hit him!



As Natasha Una stared at the poster, she hummed along with the in store music.

She giggled at the connection between Abba's I Do and the advert for the TV Bachelor's challenge and wondered

whether it was a sign. He looks pretty cute too, she admired.

However she had more important things to worry about, like her dark and handsome gentleman caller. And shehurried home to make lunch.



Things started off pretty well. John Mole enjoyed the Grilled Cheese that Tasha had prepared and seemed prettyreceptive to her advances.





Things took a turn for the awkward from that point on.

Tasha tried to hide her embarrassment, but John seemed distant and excused himself at the first available opportunity.

Perhaps the grilled cheese was too much too soon, she groaned to herself. I knew I should have served hamburgers.



“So I guess Grilled Cheese is fine for dinner, yes?”, said Luis gruffly. He couldn't help but be mildly exasperated at hisyounger cousin's aspiration. Not to mention her taste in men.

“That's great, thanks”, said Tasha, who appeared distracted.

“So,” Luis started, after a pause, “have you seen that Mole character lately”. Noticing a flash of something in hereyes, he quickly changed the subject and called the others for dinner.



“So Tasha, when are you going to find a good man and settle down”, remarked Victor thoughtlessly at the dinnertable. As Tasha looked down at her plate, Elizabeth kicked her husband under the table.

“Ouch, whatwasthatfor, er, I mean... great Grilled Cheese Dad!”, he corrected himself.



“Are you ok, Tash?”asked Elizabeth, after dinner when the girls were alone.

“I tried to kiss John today, and he rejected me”, said Tasha sheepishly. “I'm ok about it, I just feel a bit stupid. I guess I

misread the signs.”

“Oh hun, more fool him. He'll regret letting you slip through his fingers”, she said kindly.



“I've been thinking of moving on, Luis. I'm not sure that Desiderata Valley is the right place for me.”

“I can't say that it wouldn't please me that you'd be away from that Mole boy, but I would miss you,

Tasha”, said Luis softly. “Won't you reconsider?”

“You have all been so kind to me, but I just don't really fit in here”, she said sadly.



Remembering the poster, Tasha wrote a quick bio and emailed off her details. Why shouldn't she apply? After allthey have to pick seven girls for the show, and she might just be what they're looking for. It would be great

motivation for moving away regardless of how it would pan out, she thought.



“See, this would be absolutely perfect for you. I've a good mind to send off your details myself”.

“Oh Gil, honestly, what a ridiculous idea. I have the business that I can't just up and leave. Not to mention thehouse...”

“Oh come on, stop being such a martyr. What are you going to do, fester in Bluewater and wilt away with yourflowers...”

“My flowers are NOT wilting...”



“I recognise a fellow Romance sim when I see one, albeit a secondary one. Isn't that right Goopy?”, Gil asked theother man.

“Oh yes it's true, and whilst we're on the subject, if you ever need any... relief in that area, Florence, I'd be only toohappy to help out” offered Goopy, with a smile and a wink.

“Thanks but I think I'll manage”, she said rolling her eyes.

She couldn't deny the recent Romance stirrings that she'd been feeling, but was a Bachelor Challenge really the wayto address these urges?



“Ok, I have to get back to work”, said Gil. “But seriously Flo, think about it. I think it would be good for you”

She promised she would, even though she had no real intention of doing so, and left the Bakery to return

home.



She did, however, find it occupying her mind later that night.

Up until recently she'd been happy with her flowers, and her shop, and her simple life in Bluewater Village. But lately,

she'd become restless. It wasn't that she wanted to nail everything that moved, like Gil did. It was more that she feltlonely.

Perhaps she should apply for the show. It would keep Gil happy and it wasn't like she'd actually be accepted, right? Shewas hardly the ideal candidate.



And that is how Florence found herself composing an email and sending it off. She laughed at the absurdity of thesituation and promptly thought no more about the handsome stranger from the poster.



“Oh Erin, you can't really be seriously considering this”, said Kristen.

“Why not?”, she asked petulantly, “It would get Chloe off my back, at least”.

“You know, if you just talked to her like a normal person...”

“She isn't a normal person, she's an Alien. And besides, she goes out of her way to pick on me.”



Chloe did seem to have taken a dislike to Erin since the four of them started house sharing, but it appeared to be apersonality clash as opposed to some kind of specism.

The four were eager to make their ways in the world and the house share was only a temporary measure due tofinancial constraints.



Fed up of the snidey comments and laughter, Erin yearned for a friendlier atmosphere. She even brieflyconsidered moving in with her brother and his wife.







On her way home, Erin found herself back at the Facility, typing up her bio and emailing it to the productioncompany.

Usually she deferred to Loki in family matters, but this was her first real defiance. I'm not a kid anymore, shethought. And I'm fed up of everyone thinking that I'm some stupid bimbo. If I get picked for the show, I just won'ttell Loki, he probably wouldn't notice if I disappeared anyway.



The poster at the grocery store caught her eye, and after the previous night, Cleo was sorely tempted to apply.

He looks dashing, she thought. And dashing is such an old word. In fact, that's it! He looks old school, and romantic,

and ready to sweep a sim off her feet.

She sighed. She thought she was being swept off her feet last night until she fell back to earth with a bump.



It had all started innocently enough. A night out with friends in the local park. Admittedly, Leod was more of anacquaintance that she'd harboured a crush on since her arrival in Riverblossom Hills. But they were chattingand getting to know each other pretty well. Cleo even got the impression that Leod might be interested in her

too.



And then it happened.

He actually took her in his arms and kissed her. Cleo felt like she was floating on air.



Feeling like a giggling schoolgirl, Cleo pulled Patricia away from Gage and dragged her off to the ladiesfor a quick lowdown.

“Woot! I saw you guys making out, Cle!”, congratulated her friend. “So does this mean we'll be doubledating in the future?”

“I can't believe it has finally happened, Pat! Seriously, I'm on cloud nine! I think by the way he came onso strong that we won't be taking things slowly, so watch this space”, giggled Cleo.



Meanwhile ...



Cleo watched in astonishment as her blossoming romance crumbled before her eyes.

Her lips set into a thin line, and she turned and walked back to the lodge.



“Oh hey, baby! There you are! I've been looking everywhere for you!”, announced Leod.

Cleo raised her eyebrows and laughed ironically.



“So how about coming back to mine tonight, sugar?”

“Don't think that I didn't see you Leod! And don't take me for a fool, because I'm not one!”, Cleo exploded. “You

had your chance, and you blew it. I won't be played like a fiddle.”



Turning abruptly, Cleo stalked off, her mouth tight lipped and her cheeks burning with anger.

Leod watched, a smile playing about his lips. Damn she was hot when she was angry, he thought.



I'm going to apply, Cleo thought, with an uncharacteristic grin. On the walk back from the grocery store she hadthought more and more about the Bachelor Show and concluded that she really had nothing to lose.

“At least, I'm in with a decent shot of meeting a man who wants something more than a casual thing”, she saidaloud.



“Oh come on, he is totally hot”, exclaimed Brandi. “And this is perfect for you”.

“What? You're crazy! You like him so much? You apply.”, retorted Nina.

“Well, I will if someone volunteers to watch my kids for a week”, Brandi smiled and looked pointedly at herfriend.

“Oh hell no! If it is a choice between looking after your brats, and going on TV. The Bachelor Show woulddefinitely win”.

“Well then, no excuses eh?” grinned Brandi.



“You can't pretend to me that you don't want a family, one day.”, said Brandi, sipping her coffee.

“Are we still talking about this? Surely, if I buy the coffees, I get to choose the topic of conversation”, she said

with resignation. Nina knew Brandi wasn't going to let this go.

“I've seen a change in you lately, and I saw you giving Beau a cuddle when you were round mine last”

“The kid was whining, I had to pick him up just to make him stop”, she said gruffly.



“You're not seriously telling me that you're happy to be one of Don's many playthings for the rest of your life?”,demanded Brandi.

Nina inwardly inhaled. That was harsh! And it hit home.



Don was great. And they had fun. They both knew that it was nothing serious, and they were both fine withthat. Or were they? Nina had nothing against Don spending time with other women, I mean it wasn't likeshe was monogamous herself.

But lately she'd been wondering about whether she did want to commit. Not to Don, the thought of tryingthat made her laugh out loud. She couldn't help wondering if her lack of commitment stemmed from nothaving found the right man.



Her sister seemed to be getting quite serious with Mortimer. Nina kept expecting to hear about an engagementevery time she walked through the door. Of course, she knew it was a sham, at least from Dina's point of view.She was nothing but a golddigger.

At least then she'd have the house to herself.



“Ok, I have to go, who knows what kind of hell Dustin is raising”, said Brandi with a wink. She gave her a hug. “Thanks for the coffee, I'll buy one day, promise! And don't forget about that handsome Bachelor”.

“How could I when you've been going on about him for the past hour or so!”, grumbled Nina, returning the hug.

But she was smiling as she entered the house. Everything was quiet, which meant Dina was out or sleeping,something she'd been doing quite often lately. She caught sight of the computer, and made her way over, casually.



“I'll just send off a quick bio, not that it'll come to anything”, she said out loud. Smirking to herself, she quickly typedup a resume that she was happy with. Her finger hovered over the send key. Do I want this, she thought hesitating.

You know, I think Brandi was right. I do want this, or at least I'm not happy with what I've got at the moment, sheconcluded and tapped enter before she could change her mind. They screen flickered and the email changed itsstatus to Sent. Nina sat back and decided that it felt good.



“Mom, have you seen this? They're filming a Bachelor Challenge, and want contestants”, called Bianca.

“Oh really, dear?”, said her mother. “Was it a cappuccino you wanted”

“Yes, thanks Mom”.

“Was it a cappuccino that you wanted, dear?”

“Yes, thanks Mom”, Bianca replied. “Have you seen this? A Bachelor show is advertising for contestants. Imaginemeeting your spouse on a game show”



“Now Bianca, I didn't just bring you here to buy you coffee”, began Isabella.

“Look I'm sorry I left without saying goodbye last night, Mom. Dad really upset me, and I just had to get away”, said

Bianca nervously. Having just moved out on her own, Bianca wasn't used to being able to take off during familyarguments, and was a little unsure of how this had gone down. In fact, Bianca wasn't used to family arguments, asPatrizio ruled with an iron fist, and was generally unopposed.



The night had started pretty well. Bianca had enjoyed being back around the noisy family dinner table, with her parents andnephews. It was like she hadn't moved out.

And then her father asked her for a quiet word after the meal was over. Bianca followed him into the courtyard, and startedto worry. Although usually a man of few words, thinking back, he had been more quiet than usual at dinner. She hadn'tnoticed over the chatter of her nephews and her Mom's constant questions.



“Bianca, I've heard talk of you and this Capp boy, and I want you to know I'm not happy”, began her father.

“Dad, we're just friends. He's a nice guy and I know that you'd like him if you just got to know...”

“SILENCE”, he bellowed, making Bianca jump. “There will be no getting to know any member of the Capp family, andthat is final”.



“Dad, I'm a grown woman now. I can see who I like”, said Bianca firmly, although her lip trembled a bit.

“Bianca, this is not up for discussion. This is not a game, people have died because of this family. Your brotherdied. I want you to think of Claudio, think of his memory.”

“Kent isn't like that, Dad. He wouldn't have had anything to do with the fire...”

“He is a Capp, Bianca. They are all the same!”.



“I think you need a change of air for a while. Your mother and I want to send you off on holiday. Somewhere nice,somewhere hot. And then when you return, we can start a fresh and have no more talk of this boy, do you hear?”

“I moved out so I could stop sponging off you and Mom. I'm looking for work, I can hardly swan off on holiday.

Dad, please, I just need to stand on my own two feet”, tears started to form in her eyes, as she felt the pressure of her family responsibilities.



“Bianca, I want you to listen to me. Either you cease all contact with this Capp boy or I will be forced to cut you outof our family. I will not have you bring shame on the Monty name, on the memories of our beloved”, he saidsweeping his hand back to indicate the ever present urns. “This ends here”, he said with a finality, and Bianca knewhe was serious.

“You'd turn your back on me?”, she said in a whisper, not needing an answer, as she gazed into her father's hard,cold eyes.



The tears started to fall as she ran.

“Bianca, come back here”.

But she kept going, through the house and out into the night.



“I know your father can come across as a bit heavy handed at times but Bianca, you need to end your friendship withKent. No good can come of it. I'm sure his family think the same way.”, Isabella sighed. “You need a new challenge,something to occupy you away from Veronaville for a while”, she said pointedly, and took a sip of coffee.

“You mean the Bachelor show?”, said Bianca with surprise.

“Your father has already checked him out and there is no connection with the Capp family”, she said with a twinkle inher eyes.

“You're kidding, right?”



“I have to get back”, said Isabella pulling her daughter into a hug. “Please think about what I've said, the idea reallyisn't as preposterous as it seems. And, I don't want to lose you”, she tightened her hold for a second, before releasingher.

“Thanks for the coffee Mom, I will think about what you've said”

And she did, and the more she thought, the better the idea sounded. Family was very important to her. Without it, shewas not sure she'd cope.



Hey, what's up? You sounded pretty serious on the phone”, said Kent, dropping effortlessly onto the benchbeside her.

“My father had a talk with me last night”, she said still staring at the floor.

“Ah, yes, the family talk”, said Kent watching her closely.

“I think you can guess what was said”, sighed Bianca.

“How about, they're tired of this stupid feud and are going to grow up and start acting like adults?”



“I wish”, and she laughed in spite of the situation. “I'm going to be applying for that Bachelor Show that is beingadvertised all over town. And I'm sure that they have other plans in case I'm not accepted.”

“Really? That doesn't exactly sound like your kind of thing.” And after a pause, “Is it, you know, your kind of

thing?”

“Well, I would like to get married, one day, and I guess this is as good a route as any, if a little unorthodox”

“In that case Bianca, I wish you all the luck in the world”, he said softly.



“I'm going to miss you Kent”, Bianca said sadly.

“Yeah, me too!”, he said as they hugged. “I understand though, why you have to do this, I mean.”

“You've always understood me better than anyone.”

“That's because we're two sane individuals from two crazy families”, he said with a bitter laugh.



And that is how Bianca found herself emailing off her bio that evening. With a heavy heart, she pressed send.

Then she turned and studied the poster. He looks kind, she thought. And his eyes look honest, l could certainly doworse.



Crystal rolled her shoulders, trying to disperse the tension that had built up from the marathon work session.

“Well, that's it! We have our seven contestants”, said her companion, staring at the screen and typing rapidly. Turninghis attention to Crystal, “Thank you, for staying overtime to help with this. I couldn't have picked them without you”, he

smiled in what he thought was a winning way.

“No problem, Mr Landgraab, you know I appreciate the overtime.”

“Oh please, call me Malcolm.”



“So Crystal, it's medicine that you're trying to get into, is that right?”

“That's right. The training fees are at an all time high, and what with trying to save for a house, at the same time. Well,I really appreciate you giving me the Director position. It is really helping to speed things along for us.”

“Us? Oh that's right, your boyfriend. What was his name? Laylo?”

“Actually it's Lazlo, Malcolm”

“You know, I hope you don't think I'm being too forward, but when a man can't contribute to his own accommodation.Well, to be frank, it worries me!”



“Well, he doesn't have a lot of time for a secondary job, and his brothers really need his financial input at themoment”, Crystal felt herself making excuses for him, and stopped.

Damn, she is so hot, thought Malcolm. What on earth is she still doing with that loser Curious. Well, they were all

losers, the whole family. And aliens too, if the rumours were to be believed!

“Well, I am very happy to have you aboard, Crystal. I look forward to this being the start of a very long andprofitable relationship.”





“It's been a pleasure”, he smiled, holding her hand for just a second too long. “Working this closely withyou, I mean”.

Smiling politely, and managing to avoid snatching her hand away, Crystal left the office and made her way

back out through the impressive Landgraab mansion.



Malcolm's comments made her thoughts turn to Lazlo. It wasn't his fault that his science projects didn't pullin much money, she was happy to provide for them both. Or at least she would be, if she could get him toagree to move in with her. Admittedly, her apartment was currently too small for all his equipment, but assoon as she had raised enough money for the town house, he'd have no excuse.

You never know, she thought smiling fondly, with the right nudging, he might even propose!



As she walked out into the rain, she turned up her collar and wished she'd brought an umbrella.

The cold, wet weather made her even more impatient to get on to the Island and start recording the show. Thesooner the show was in the bag, the sooner the money would be wired into her account. And then she could

get on with purchasing the house, and paying her tuition fees for med school.



The taxi pulled up in front of the Moroccan inspired villa, and the sun beat down as Crystal exited the vehicleand stretched. She'd managed to catch a few hours sleep on the flight but she had a full day's work ahead of

her. A coffee wouldn't go amiss, she thought.



Leaving her bags just inside the door, Crystal strode into the main living room and headed towards the work area atthe back. She saw a blonde woman, sitting at one of the desks, idly flipping paper clips into a cup.

“Sandy”, she said curtly, in greeting.

“Oh hey, you're back then”, Sandy replied, as she swept the rest of the clips into the cup and sat a little straighter.



Seating herself in front of the computer and firing it up, Crystal asked, “So, is everything ready?”

“I did the last of the equipment checks yesterday. Everything appears to be in good working order”

“Appears? I need you to be sure, Sandy. The contestants are finalised and due to arrive within the next couple

of days. I want you to start a full test run. All cameras working for the next 24 hours and then we'll spendtomorrow reviewing the footage. We can't afford any equipment failures, this program will be going out onSBN”

Sandy groaned inwardly, she'd been hoping for a rest day before the show began, not a late night reviewingtedious footage of nothing happening.



“I thought I'd find you at the bar”, Crystal said dryly, when she found them both later.

“Nothing like a bit of Juice to unwind at the end of a hard day”, slurred Joe, grinning.

“A hard day? I got the impression that you've been trawling the local bars since mid morning”, Crystal's eyesnarrowed.

“I have indeed been cultivating a good working relationship with the locals, yes”, he agreed. “Now come on, have adrink with us, I think we all deserve one”.



Against her better judgement, Crystal accepted the drink that Joe had thrust upon her.

“Well maybe just one, it has been a long day after all”, she said thinking back to her meeting with Malcolm. “Wehave to be up early though, as we need to do some preliminary filming at the house with Mr Nordstrom”.

“Ah yes, the famous Bachelor. So what's he like? You girls have met him.”

“He's really hot and he has the tightest little...”

“SANDY! I want us to maintain a professional manner when dealing with those in the house please”, said Crystalicily, as Joe chuckled and drained his glass.



The next morning Crystal quickly scanned her email account and found nothing of importance. Looking around theonsite office, she was pleased with how the location looked. The monitor in the corner showed four constantly rotatinglive feeds from the house, which were both simultaneously backed up onto two hard drives here in the office, andtransmitted to another two hard drives in the crew house for easy editing. The show would not be broadcast live, but

rather a day behind to allow for editing, so it would be a really tight schedule.

She looked over at Sandy, who was adjusting the camera, ready for the practise run of the interview format. Shecouldn't pretend to like the woman, but she had to admit she was great at the technical side of things.



“So Aloysius, how are you adjusting to the heat here, eh? You're a Northlander right?”

Aloysius smiled, his eyes twinkling at Joe's obvious discomfort with his lack of response.

Joe tried again, “I guess the heat is a good way to make sure these girls get stripped off to their bikinis prettyquickly eh?, he winked conspiratorially. But Aloysius' expression didn't change as he moved his head to look atSandy making adjustments to the camera. “Hey”, yelled Joe at Crystal, “You did check whether he speaks simlish,right”. In all his years of presenting, Joe had never met such a taciturn subject, and quite frankly he was baffled.



Looking up from her computer in exasperation, Crystal exclaimed, “Joe, don't be so rude”.

She got up and joined the pair on the sofas, “Mr Nordstrom, I'm so sorry. He doesn't seem to engage his brainbefore opening his mouth, sometimes”. Crystal wondered for the hundredth time how on earth Joe made a

living as a successful presenter.

Before Joe could even start his rebuttal, a voice said, “Please Crystal, call me Aloysius, or even Lou”. The voicewas soft but firm and with a trace of the Northland accent. And the sentiment felt decidedly less lecherous thanwhen Malcolm had said the same thing just over 24 hours earlier.

“So are you adjusting well to your new temporary home, Lou”, she said warmly, ignoring Joe's wounded stare. Whenhe nodded, she went on, “I guess I might as well give you a run down on what you can expect over the next week orso.” When he inclined his head, she continued, “The girls will arrive tomorrow morning, and you'll get until the next dayat 12pm before you need to make a decision on who you're going to evict. From that point on, another girl will leave at12pm every day until only one remains. We'll conduct interviews separately with yourself and the evictee after 12pm.

Except for the interviews all the footage will be taken from the in house cameras, so just try to forget they're there, ok? After the last eviction interview, you'll return to the house to do the proposal – we'll talk more about a location for thatlater in the week as we may have to bring in more cameras. It is our money shot, after all. Then the wedding will takeplace in the early evening, time to be confirmed. You'll get a more detailed day plan each morning, which will let youknow the timings for the activities and so on. Any questions?

“You have to remember that these women are here because they're looking for the same thing you are”, Joeinterjected soothingly. “Seven intelligent women, who would like to find a man they can share the rest of their lifewith. I'm thinking the odds are pretty high that you'll find someone to your liking.”

Crystal nodded in agreement and was surprised at Joe's empathy, and the smile went back to playing about Lou'smouth.

“Right, it's nearly dark. We better let you enjoy your last night in charge of the TV remote”, said Crystal, lighteningthe mood.

As the others packed up their equipment, Crystal found Lou looking seriously at the engagement ring.

“That's some badass bling, eh? All courtesy of Langraab Industries.”, she said, standing by his shoulder.

He shrugged non-committally. “So the poster over there says 'Til Death Us Do Part'.”

“Yes, that's our working title for the show, it may change between now and airing but that's doubtful. Why? Aren't you keen on it?”

“It's just very... final.”



“You know, most people get their cold feet the day before the wedding, not the day before meeting their potentialbrides”, she joked.

He smiled, “I must sound so lame – it isn't that I don't want to get married. I just want it to be... right!”

“Of course, you do”, she said reassuringly. “Let's just take one day at a time, ok? Sandy, Joe and I, we're all here foryou. If you need to talk, just let one of us know.” She squeezed his shoulder and he smiled gratefully before turning toleave for the main house.
