THE OFFICIAL FAN ZONES UEFA EURO 2012
Close to the Fans
The aim of the Fan Zone project was to create a successful and memorable fan experience outside
of the stadiums featuring the live screening of all UEFA EURO 2012™ matches on high quality giant
screens in each of the Host Cities. The basic concept of the official Fan Zones sought to echo the
feeling and ambience of being in the stadiums - bringing fans closer to the actual event.
The Fan Zone project acheived this goal by spreading enthusiasm for football beyond the stadiums
and into the inner cities, creating a public viewing option for fans without tickets and providing a
unique football experience for visiting fans and citizens alike. It increased the brand recognition of
the tournament by means of branded entrance and exit gates, giant screens and fence branding.
UEFA Sponsors were given an exclusive promotional platform in the Fan Zones.
The Fan Zone project helped to promote and boost the good image of UEFA, as well as the
participating host countries and cities.
The Project
With a workforce of 1200 people, and a usage of more than 760 tons of raw material for the temporary infrastructure, the UEFA Fan Zone
basic infrastructure packages were built up in 14 days, and then taken down at the end in 10 days. During the tournament, there were
10’000 to 15’000 employees (daily) catering to guest’s needs, as well as thousands of security personnel (private security, police, military),

Official Fan Zones in accordance with the Marketing Guidelines. Regular reports were shared with the Project Owner Lukas
Achermann for budgetary and personnel related decisions.
