WINTERTIME AT CAMP EVERGREEN Have you ever wondered what goes on at Camp Evergreen in the winter? The canoes and paddles have been stashed and thankfully the war on mosquitoes has a lengthy hiatus. With the falling snow camp is transformed into the winter wonder- land full of real-life images that one might see on a greeting card. The horses have grown their scruffy winter coats and the staff doesn’t dare venture out without a hat and gloves. Camp Evergreen is still a busy place though. More guest groups are discovering the peace and beauty of a winter retreat here. Scattered families rendezvous at camp to reconnect with loved ones they haven’t had the time and space to meet with for a long time. Church groups come to meet, pray, plan for the future and enjoy camps cozy amenities, the quiet forest and the bold, snowy fields. We welcome new groups to make use of what God has blessed us with in this amazing place we call Camp Evergreen. Winter is a time for our staff to plan for the coming spring and summer, to make contact with former campers and to encourage potential summer staff to consider joining us. It’s a time to visit our supporting churches, as well as meet with other Alberta Christian camp staff to brainstorm with and encourage our brothers and sisters. How can Camp Evergreen bless you this winter? Do you need a place to come find some solitude, far from the busy city? Do you need a spot to reconnect with folks you haven’t spent enough time with lately? We are able to provide most of the activities we offer in the warmer months, and even a few extras like snowshoeing, and if you bring your own sled or skates, we have some great spots to enjoy those activities, too. How can you bless Camp Evergreen this winter? Pray for our winter staff! We have five young German volunteers helping us out, and a number of other young people spending the winter on site to help with guest groups and maintenance. Join us for one of our cabin work days. We will continue to post work day dates on our website and in our newsletter. Attend our Pond Hockey Tournament as a spectator or a participant! It’s such a fun day! Support camp through your financial gifts, either with a one time gift or as a monthly donor. Introduce new people to the ministry at Camp Evergreen, either by bringing them to a camp sponsored event, or maybe by planning a camp day yourself (see the article on Stay-cations on page two.) As 2013 draws to an end we look forward to what God has in store for the ministry of Camp Evergreen in the new year. Our warmest thanks to you for being a part of Camp Evergreen today and in 2014! Have Yourself a Merry Little SHave Yourself a Merry Little SHave Yourself a Merry Little SHave Yourself a Merry Little STAY----CCCCATION This Winter! This Winter! This Winter! This Winter!

Are you looking for a winter getaway, but don’t have the big bucks or the time? Why not enjoy an action packed day trip right here at beautiful Camp Evergreen! Did you know that the cost for a day at Camp Evergreen, which includes activities like horseback riding, our high-ropes challenge course, archery, wall climbing and lunch, is only 53% of the price of a one day adult lift ticket to ski at Banff! That’s almost half price, folks! We offer great one day stay-cations for families and friends, or treat your co-workers to a fun day of team-building.

Here’s what your day could look like: • Arrive at Camp Evergreen in the morning. • Test your marksmanship at our new archery range, then head over to the climbing wall and

scale to new heights! • Enjoy a delicious lunch in our dining room while we do all the cooking and the dishes. • After lunch let our horses do the work as they carry you along beautiful trails and across open

snow-covered fields. Yes, every vista at Camp Evergreen really does look like a Christmas card during the winter!

• After your trail ride put on a climbing harness so you and your friends can attempt different elements of our high ropes challenge course. Zipline, anyone? Our snowshoes are always looking for someone’s feet to take them on an adventure, too. Feeling chilled? Our indoor heated bouldering room will warm you up quickly.

• Meet back at the dining room for some hot chocolate and cookies before heading back to the big city or your prairie farm.

Of course, we can customize your day to suit your needs and desires. Add a meal or another day or three? No problem. We have lots of avail-able dates open this winter, both weekdays and weekends.

Please call or email Bev for rates and dates: [email protected] When you book a getaway mention that you read about our stay-cation packages in the GreenSpace newsletter and we’ll give you one of our new Camp Evergreen mugs as a gift upon your arrival.

Everyone is invited to our

Fifth Annual Three-on-Three Pond Hockey Tournament!

Come as a participant or a spectator. The Pond Hockey Tournament is a great day: it's competitive, but friendly and good wholesome fun. There will be something for the whole family including a skills competition for the kids and a cheering spectator section beside the rinks. Our goal of Camp Evergreen is to draw kids, youth and families to Christ: our Pond Hockey Tournament supports this exciting, valuable ministry! We would love to see twelve teams participate in the tournament this year and we'd love to raise $20,000.

As a hockey player we want you to have fun! Score goals! Raise money! Teams can be made up of four or five players, men or women, and aged 16 or older. Team captains will be responsible for filling out their roster and confirm that they will be able to field a team by December 15, 2013. The entrance fee for each team is $1,000 - payable on tournament day. More questions? Check out the Pond Hockey Tournament Handbook available online at www.camp-evergreen.com To register send Taylor an email at [email protected]

As a spectator come and cheer on your favourite team! Spectator tickets cost $15 and will include lunch, supper and some activities. For the kids there will be a mini skills competition as well as some fun games in the activity centre. Spectator tickets must be reserved in advance to help us know how much food to prepare. To reserve tickets send Taylor an email at [email protected] or give camp a call.

POND HOCKEY 2014

CAB

IN

FEVER

• May and June: We prepared six new cabin sites, drove screw-piles into the ground and

built rough foundations.

• July and August: Mennonite Disaster Service sent volunteer teams to frame, sheet and

roof each of the six cabins. They were also able

to install windows and doors bringing the cabins

to lock-up stage.

• November: Staff and volunteers joined to-

gether for a work day to start insulation. Cabin

walls are fully insulated, have their poly stapled

in place and rough ceilings are starting to go up.

Bunks are in the process of being constructed

and varnished.

• Our next official Work Day is being planned

for Saturday, December 7th. Please contact

camp if you are able to volunteer. More work

days are being planned for the new year.
