Hello everyone, W ell, here we are rolling down to the end of 2020, and we sll find the normalcy of our lives being challenged by this worldwide pandemic. Typically, the November newsletter announces the new board members and thanks the outgoing members. Due to the postponement of the annual meeting in October, only the latter can be done. So, let me say thank you to Patrick Kirchner, Brad Hampton and Grant Huffine for their time on the board. In fact, since the October meeting was canceled, they all graciously extended the board time one whole month. A fact, that I am sure they will remind me of for the next few years. It goes without saying this year has been a little challenging for everyone. The business side of our community also got the 2020 treatment. The board had to move to all virtual meetings. Our property management company had staffing issues, and we are now on our third account manager which creates a lot of disruption. However, like everyone this year, we figured out our way through. Since, we are all spending a lot of time at home and in our backyards, the board has been quite busy with approving or not approving architectural upgrades such as fences, decks and other backyard enhancements, along with continually dealing with which trees fall under the HOA responsibility or not. Common area landscaping continues to be a large expense and the most hands-on part of being a board member. Now that we are heading into the not-so-friendly backyard season, let me tell all of our residents that garage bars do not need board approval, but an invite is still appreciated and most welcome. If you have not registered on the Highmeadow.org website, please do so. All the regulations can be found on the site. Any external projects that require a city permit, not limited to decks, fences and additions will likely need HOA permission. Please know what is allowed per our regulations prior to committing to a project and getting HOA approval. All approval forms and regulations for such projects are located on the site. As of now, when you register on the site you can sign up for email notifications. As we move forward, we are looking for better technological answers for communicating with everyone. This could include texting notification services, since texting seems to be the most popular form of quick communication. Though I’m sure the college kids and teens would say texting is even outdated. Even though we have the monthly newsletter, the Facebook and High Meadow.org page, quick and timely information sharing is still a challenge. Summer ended with a visit from Good Humor

Dave on September 30. It was a chilly night, but we still had a

    great turnout for ice cream.

This has been an interesting year, and we were not able to hold as many events as we

    would have hoped.

We look forward to planning and getting the neighborhood together next year.

Enjoy the holidays over the next

few months. Kelly and Jason Moscickis

The 2nd annual High Meadow Golf Outing was a huge success. For the second year in a row we had 24 players. The first competition of the day

was a longest drive. The winner this year was Jay Miller. The second competition was a closest to the pin and Scott Landsdowne landed about a

foot away to take the trophy. The final individual competition was a longest putt. Jay Miller

brought his “A” game this year taking his second trophy. The team competition was intense

coming down to a 3 way tie! We couldn’t end there and decided on a chip and putt to break

the tie. That ended...in a tie. The final tie breaker, a 30 foot putt, closest to the pin wins.

Tim Reeb sinks the putt to win it!2nd Annual High Meadow Golf Outing

    See you all next year!

The City of Naperville offers two leaf collection options:

    1. Free bagged (no sticker required) leaf collection program ‐ Allows residents to dispose of bagged leaves and yard waste

weekly from November 2 through to December 18, 2020

    2. Bulk curbside collection ‐ The City's curbside leaf collection schedule provides every neighborhood with three leaf collection

opportunities, weather permitting, each year. To participate,

residents rake leaves into the street next to the curb in front of

their house, avoiding storm drains, at the beginning of each leaf

    collection cycle.

Collection cycles for 2020 begin on:

    • Monday, October 19 • Monday, November 2 • Monday, November 16

PLEASE NOTE: • Crews will collect leaves in front of each home once during each

two‐week collection cycle. For example, residents must rake

leaves into the street by 6 am on October 19, however, crews may

not reach your neighborhood to pick up leaves until November 2.

    • Snow, rain or freezing weather may significantly delay or

    permanently halt curbside leaf collection.

    • Only place leaves in leaf piles. Items such as branches, twigs,

lumber, rocks, Halloween decorations, etc., can cause the

    equipment to break down.

    • Rake leaves away from storm drains in the street to prevent

    flooding.

For more detailed information and access to the bulk leaf

    collection interactive map, visit https://www.naperville.il.us/

    Leaf Collection OPTIONS

All yard waste collection ends for the year on December 18, 2020. This includes the city's yard waste/organics collection program that allows residents to bypass bagging and stickers by utilizing a provided cart to dispose of food waste/organics and yard waste for a seasonal fee paid to Groot Industries. Services will resume on 3/15/2021. Street sweeping will begin after curbside leaf collection ends, weather permitting. Residents may choose to sweep up leaf debris and include it in the weekly yard waste collection program.

Each High Meadow resident is responsible for the removal of snow and ice from the sidewalk in front and around their home. The sidewalks should be cleared of snow and ice within 48 hours following the weather event. We have many homeowners walking their pets and our children also use the sidewalks during the winter months. Be a good neighbor and help clear the way. Please note that it is unlawful to remove snow or ice from private property and push it into any public street or alley or any part thereof.

ATTENTION HIGH MEADOW RESIDENTS Snow Removal

    Storm Drain Maintenance

    Homeowners are

encouraged to clean off leaves and snow from storm drains in the street and rear of

their houses to prevent flooding. This is very

important and a wonderful courtesy to

    all homeowners in High Meadow.

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and if you’re like me, you may be wondering how on

earth you’re going to celebrate this year. I’ve been hosting a friendsgiving for over 15 years—a tradition that started in college with a guest list consisting of any friends who didn’t happen to go home for the big day. However, this year many traditions will be put on hold. Many people will be spending the holiday away from family and friends due to COVID19–related travel restrictions or safety concerns. But that doesn’t mean you need to sit at your table sulking with a bag of Brach’s Turkey Dinner Candy Corn.

This Thanksgiving is an opportunity to think outside the box. It may inspire you to throw out your traditional playbook and opt for an entirely new menu (maybe that’s something you’ve secretly wanted to do for years anyway). Or you may be seeking just the opposite, longing to replicate some semblance of your family’s Thanksgiving traditions because you find them comforting in these uncertain times. Perhaps you’re looking for thoughtful ways to show your family, friends, or community that you care even if you can’t do it in person. Regardless of which camp you fall into, we’ve put together a list of lowstress ways to safely celebrate Thanksgiving amid the pandemic. DINE TOGETHER VIRTUALLY

If you live close to family or friends, a fun way to piece together your Thanksgiving dinner is by organizing a meal exchange among a few households.

After deciding on a menu together, you can add all of your recipe links to a shared spreadsheet. Each household signs up for a dish or two to make in bulk, divvies them up into equal portions (our budgetpick plastic food storage containers are great for this purpose since they’re so cheap that you won’t mind if you don’t get them back), and delivers them to the other households Thanksgiving morning. The spreadsheet helps keep everything organized so no one accidentally makes the same dish twice. Once the dropoff is complete, everyone can enjoy their meals together on a video call. BROADCASTING YOUR COMPUTER DISPLAY ON YOUR TV CAN MAKE YOUR FAR-AWAY FAMILY FEEL A LITTLE MORE LIFE-SIZE.

Alternatively, for some people, the best part of Thanksgiving is the joy and frenzy of cooking together with family and friends. If you can’t all be in the same kitchen this year, one way to recreate that feeling is for each household to prepare the same batch of recipes independently. That way you can experience the same meal over a longdistance video chat. Again, once you agree on a menu, you can add all of your recipe links to a shared spreadsheet. Of course, dining virtually can be a challenge when you’re limited to the small screen on your smartphone or laptop. One way to enhance your viewing experience is by taking advantage of other electronics you may already have. Broadcasting your computer display on your TV can make your faraway family feel

a little more lifesize. ORDER OR SEND FOOD

If you’re looking to cut yourself some slack, ordering side dishes is far less stressful than preparing an entire Thanksgiving feast yourself. Even if you want to make some dishes yourself, it can be nice to supplement them with a few readymade options. You can always order basic precooked sides from the grocery store. But also consider picking up food from a local restaurant, which is a great way to support businesses hit hard by the pandemic.

If you’re like me, you’ve probably done your fair share of stress baking (and eating) during the pandemic. Shipping some of those calories to family and friends is a great way to show them you’re thinking of them.

You might also consider sending specialty foods or a bountiful gift basket to your loved ones. We’re big fans of surprising family and friends with a box of Jeni’s Ice Cream, which we tested for our guide to the best gift baskets. A box of specialty coffee makes another lovely gift.

You could send something you’ve made yourself instead of ordering food online. If you’re like me, you’ve probably done your fair share of stress baking (and eating) during the pandemic. Shipping some of those calories to family and friends is a great way to show them you’re thinking of them, even if you can’t celebrate the holiday together.
