Greeting Nobles;

AS many of you may have noticed last month’s Tebalagram did not contain a note.

I wrote it in long hand but guess I just did not get it typed up and sent, to many things

happening in a short length of time first part of July.

A lot has happened since last time I reported to you. The only thing of major concern at

Imperial was the dues increase to Imperial this was voted down. The Divan attended the

Illinois High School All Star Football Game and the Schools from Tebala Area Had 22

player on the Squad Representing 13 Schools, our team won in a very tight game. The

Racing for kids was a great time again, and raised money for the Hospital. Good job Hol-

lie & Jack. During the month of August three groups held fund raisers for the transporta-

tion fund, and the hospital during this month alone almost $10,000 was raised by these

groups.

We held our golf play day at Westlake Village Golf Course in August and everyone had a

great time, a good job was done by our Assistant Rabban Tom Watson, & lady Nancy.

We received information that Ron Obara has been appointed as an Imperial Potentates

Aid to Dale Strauss, congratulations Ron.

The Potentates Ball is history I hope many of you had a chance to enjoy the evening with

Sandy & me.

The haunted house is up and in need of you help, we will be operating every weekend in

the month of October, come and help out it is a lot easier if we spread the work around.

The date for the Fall Ceremonial is fast approaching November 29th. get your candidates

ready and signed up, we always need new members.

The Appreciation dinner for the volunteers at the circus is Nov. 28th. don’t forget this one.

As I write this the Divan is preparing to go to the GLSA for the annual meeting hosted by

Ainad Shrine it is in Fairview Heights, Illinois this year. The call dose not list any major

issues.

ported that any Nobles interested in

being an associate on the hospital

board should contact him for a visit

to a board meeting to see what it

entails.

MEMBERSHIP – Jerry Minor If

you know of any members who are

delinquent in paying their dues,

please encourage them to pay. If

there is a problem please contact

the Recorder. Jerry also presented a

plaque for membership that we re-

ceived at Imperial. Jerry also en-

couraged all Nobles to look for new

Chuck Slater discussed member-

ship trailer that is available to take

OLD BUSINESS: Thank you to

all who attended the IL All Star

Shrine Football Game. There were

14 players from Tebala’s region.

East won.

NEW BUSINESS: Aug. 2nd the truck show at Franklin

Grove, IL. Votes for the best truck

are done with a paid vote, proceeds

go to the Shriners Hospital. Craig

Sand, PP presented a proposal from

a group of Nobles who would like

to build a pistol range in the base-

ment. The range would be

built and maintained by a new club

or unit. Motion made by Joe

Klinck, 2nd by Konrad Weiss for the

nobility to approve a gun range in

the basement as long as Cherry

Valley approves. Motion made by

Matt Thomann, 2nd by Siegy to ap-

prove both RAMI contracts. Poten-

tate Loy Rice reported on Imperial

It was proposed to raise per capita

from $12.00 to $27.00, this was

defeated. Wounded Warrior Project

- It was proposed to raise separate

funds WWP from Shrine fund, this

was defeated. A new Temple in

Brazil will be created. Question

was asked if t=with the recent hail

damage if we had anyone look at

our roof to see if there was any

damage. We will have NIR Roofing

look at it.

Chaplain’s Call

One cannot become positioned to experience

the fullness of life unless they are willing to

release their hold on the past. Often individ-

uals decide that the experiences of the past are

more important than the greater good await-

ing to be discovered. The wise person is the

one that realizes the past can only become the

past once it is released thereby allowing the

present to become a gift filled with tremen-

dous possibilities for enhanced good, fun, and

glory. It is when we can truly live in the pre-

sent that our future begins to become re-

vealed.

Change is never easy! It is often filled with

feelings of anxiety and concern. However,

these emotions are, in reality, indicators that

tell you something new and wonderful is in

the process of emerging. That you are in the

early stages of a new discovery where new,

experiences and opportunities for greater

good are in the process of being manifested.

I remember Maya Angelou wrote some years

ago a statement that continues to influence

my thinking today. She wrote, “ I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. “ It is the impact we have on the lives of others that will actually determine our ability to not only achieve personal goals and objectives but also create an effec-tive support group that we are able to as-sist in the achievement of their goals and objectives as well. This results in pro-ducing a win win situation where all are benefited. In the obligation we take to become members of this great fraternity we are provided a set of guidelines to live by and in so doing become empowered to make

a difference in our world. The fact is we are all good men and have the capability of becoming better through our associa-tion with one another. It is as we choose to pull together that great things are ac-complished. Like all organizations some individuals are chosen by its membership (Nobles) to fill leadership positions. These individu-als are then charged with the responsibil-ity of making decisions that are in the best interest of the fraternity at large. These decisions reflect a previously es-tablished vision through which greater good is manifested. Sometimes the deci-sions are easy to make while at other times they are difficult. It is at these diffi-cult moments that each of the elected leaders enter into discussions that reflect different viewpoints all for the purpose of arriving at a consensus that represents the best interests of the fraternity. At such times changes become inevitable. This is true both at a personal level as well as the professional level of life. This is when it is imperative that we choose to exercise our faith and trust our creator that all things are working together for the highest good of all concerned. It is my prayer that we are able to keep

our minds open and our eyes raised to a

new and glorious vision for our Shrine,

our Children’s Hospital system, all of our

Units and Clubs, our Past Potentates as

well as our current and all those yet to fill

that position.

LOVES PARK SHRINE CLUB NEWS…(and random thoughts)

I’m dedicating this month’s column to

Noble Augie and Lady Karen. Augie

has been the TOP SELLER of Vidalia

Onions and POOR OL’ GEORGE

CAL-EN-DURS for many years. To

get an accurate count you’ll have to

take your shoes off. A tip of the Fez

and our whole-hearted thanks to Augie

and the support he receives from Lady

Karen. The latest fishing update goes

like this: The grandkids have caught

the most and the biggest, so... Augie

and Karen, you’ll have to try harder

next year. Thanks again for all you do

for us.

A thank you is in order for Noble Bill

Smith. His kind words about this col-

umn are truly appreciated. Keep read-

ing Bill.

Our October meeting is Thursday the

9th at Tri-State Aluminum, 6300 Forest

Hills Road. This will be the last meet-

ing of the year at this location. We

will have our annual meeting, com-

bined with Ladies Nite Out in Novem-

ber. (Possibly installation of officers

also.)

We were pleased to welcome our new-

est member in August. Noble Tom

Storm joined us. You might recall him

as a CHANTER. I hope we didn’t

frighten him off with our BOISTER-

OUS meeting. Tabmaster filled in for

Chef Doug and did a fine job cooking.

Our thanks to Assistant Rabban Tom

Watson for his attendance as well.

The parade season is winding down.

By the time you read this Oregon will

still be on October 5. Thanks to all

Nobles who have pitched in so far.

DALMATIANS

A teacher had her third grade class on

a field trip. Upon returning back to

the school in a bus, a fire truck

zoomed by. Sitting in the front of the

fire truck was a Dalmatian dog. This

sight sparked a great discussion

among the children in regards to the

duties of the dog.

“They use him to keep back the

crowds!” exclaimed on little one.

“No,” replied another, “he is for good

luck!”

Then the argument came to a close

when one little girl stood up and said

firmly, “They use the dogs to find the

hydrant!”

HEART ATTACK Although this married couple enjoyed

their new fishing boat together, it was

the husband who was behind the

wheel operating the boat. He was

concerned about what might happen

in an emergency. So one day out on

the lake he said to his wife, “Please

take the wheel, dear. Pretend that I

am having a heart attack. You must

get the boat safely to shore and dock

it.”

So she drove the boat to shore and

safely docked it.

Later that evening, is wife walked

into the living room where her hus-

band was watching television. She

sat down next to him, switched the

TV channel, and said to him, “Please

go into the kitchen, dear. Pretend I’m

having a heart attack and set the table,

cook a nice dinner and wash the dish-

es.”

GROCERY LIST When I was ill, my husband volun-

teered to go to the supermarket for

me. I sent him off with a carefully

numbered list of seven items to pick

up.

Off to the store he went and returned

with the groceries. Very proud of

himself, he proceeded to unpack the

grocery bags. He had one ham, two

cartons of eggs, three bags of sugar,

four boxes of detergent, five boxes of

crackers, six eggplants, and seven

green peppers.

THE MOTOR PATROL

The Motor Patrol was formed in 1963, It was the concept of Noble Oscar Lind. With a lot of help from Nobles Bonnie Nordmark and Harry DeYoung it came to happen,There were 15 other Nobles that also helped in its formation. Most of the original members have taken that ride we all must on the Black Camel.Noble Oscar Lind was the first President and Director,the first Vice Presidents name cannot be re-membered at this time.The first Treasure and Secretary was Noble Harry Abrams. The directorship has changed six times in the past 50 years. Following Noble Oscar was No-ble William Dowden who held the position for 14 years,then came Noble Norm Michaels,Noble Robbie Robertson, No-ble Bobby King , and currently it is Noble Michael Hoeth. There have been to many main officers in the past 50 year to list but those that were an officer did a fine job while they were in office.Our current officers are President Noble

Leonard Siegfried, Vice President Noble Austin Kelley .Secretary Noble Brian Wilber, Treasure Noble Ed-ward Keenan, Equipment Chairman Noble Ron Gardella, and the Parade Leader is Noble Michael Hoeth.

The Motor Patrol purchased their first bikes in 1963,

they were 1950 White Cushman Eagles. These were

purchased from a unit of Sesostris Temple in Lin-

coln Nebraska, and were shipped to Waukegan by

rail. They were stored in Noble Pat Attaberrys gar-

age on Washington street. The Motor Patrol also had

a jeep and two electric cars which became to costly

and were sold.Around 1976 we purchased the drive

train for our Fez from Waukegan Marine. The Fez

was made by the members of the Patrol.

In 1985 we had to purchase new bikes, the original cushmans

were costing to much to maintain.That year we sold the cush-

mans to someone in Fort Wayne Indiana, and purchased our new

1985 Yamaha Riva 125 scooters. There were 14 red and 1 black

which is the lead bike . We also bought a trailer to carry the bikes

and to house them. Then in 2010 the Fez needed to be rebuilt.

That was accomplished by three young friends of the Motor Pa-

trol, Robert Hoeth,Michael Knight, and Don Lingo. Their design

made it a lot lighter and easier to handle. Now in 2014 the old

motor in the Fez gave out and once again one of our young

friends Michael Knight came to our rescue. He told us what we

needed to buy and he did all the work to remove the old motor

and install the new motor .So now we should be okay if we could

just keep some our drivers from dumping their bikes.

A SPECIAL COMMUNITY EVENT!

On November 9th, Daughters of The Nile will be hosting a special “Flag Retirement” Ceremony at Tebala

Shrine Center, 7910 Newburg Road. All National Flags that are presented will be retired through a special

ceremony that is in accordance with such patriotic decorum.

“When an American Flag is no longer fit for display it must not be thrown away. Instead, there is a

special flag disposal ceremony where the flag is burned in accordance with the flag disposal protocol.

The following organizations conduct flag disposal ceremonies.”

Boy Scouts Girl Scouts American Legion VFW Marine Corps League D.A.V.

A special depository is located just east of the main entry doors at the Shrine Center for flags that are in need

of retirement. This depository will be available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. We want to make certain that

everyone has the opportunity to bring their flags so they can receive the proper attention they richly deserve.

In addition there will also be food for purchase available inside the Shrine Center. Profits from the dinner will

go to the Tray Favors prepared for Children at the Chicago Shriner’s Hospital. Plenty of room and plenty of

food will be available inside Tebala for you to visit with your friends and neighbors as this beautiful ceremony

is open to everyone.

Outside each flag will be retired in a beautiful and inspirational manner. Inside will be patriotic presentations,

warm, nutritious food available, and fellowship with other friends and neighbors that are attending this special

ceremony.

It is important to know that this ceremony is open for everyone. This could be an appropriate moment for all

of us to demonstrate our respect for the National Flag and its symbolic influence through-out the world and

respectfully dispose of any flags we no longer fly.

Men and Women have sacrificed their lives in order to protect our way of life. These flags represent those

sacrifices and are therefore representative of a sacred trust we are to respect and honor.

The activity will start off at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday November 9th, 2014 until approximately 7:00 p.m.
