THE OFFICIAL STUDENT PUBLICATION OF LA SALLE GREEN HILLS – ADULT NIGHT HIGH SCHOOL THIRD TRIMESTER S.Y. 2016-2017 VOL. XV NO. 3
100% was the passing rate of the
TVET and SHS-TVL in the TESDA Assess-
ment held last February 27-March 11, 2017.
The following TVET courses and
number of students were declared by
TESDA assessors as competent which
accounted for the 100% passing rate of the
school: Cookery NC II (50), Dressmaking
NC II (15), Computer Systems Servicing
NC II (24), Bread and Pastry Production
NC II (22), Electrical Installation and
Maintenance NC II (18), Food and Bever-
age Services NC II (55), Shielded Metal Arc
Welding NC II (16), and Events Manage-
ment Services NC III (18).
According to Mr. Roy S. Daz, the
Administrative Affairs Coordinator, ‚It
was our first time to subject our students
to Events Management Services NC III
assessment. And the students were not the
regular TVET students but our Senior
High School Technical-Vocational-
Livelihood track learners. Nine of which
are Deaf. Having them all pass the TESDA
certification is something the school is
truly proud of. Part of the school's big goal
is to produce graduates who are duly certi-
fied by the government as competent
workers and entrepreneurs so it was a joy
to see them receive their fourth TESDA
national certificate.‛

where they feel accepted, respected, and taken care
of. 30 street children participated in the activity.
Faculty members and representatives from
Kuya Center started gathering the children from
Commonwealth Market. Different activities were

Mr. Edserlito C. Reños, the ANHS Faculty Association President said
‚It’s different when you interact with the less fortunate members of our society.
You are reminded of how fortunate you are. It allows you to realize contentment
and being grateful for what you have. ‚
Kabihasnan 2017 ANHS Faculty Association
found the Kabihasnan 2017, a biennial
school fair, as an opportunity to raise
funds by selling siomai and Korean noo-
dles last February 17-18, 2017 at La Salle
Green Hills. This year’s theme was
‚Kapit-Kamay sa Lasalyanong Pagla-
lakbay‛ which reminds the Lasallian
community of the culture of helping.
Faculty members participated
actively by selling during the said dates
not minding the physical tasks just to
help in their own simple ways. Accord-
ing to Mr. Reños, ‚It was a nice event where members of the ANHS Faculty
work together as a group to raise funds and exhibit camaraderie. Everyone en-
joyed the different activities prepared by the Kabihasnan central committee.‛
Academic Fair ends with Amazing Race By Mark Joseph T. Tacubansa, SHS-ABM

said event and to provide meaningful
ways of learning to students while
working together and having fun.
Jennifer R. Espina and Niño
Ricco C. Wong of SHS-ABM served as
the masters of ceremonies during the
Amazing Race.
Students showcased their
skills on the second day as the Grade
9 students performed a Reader’s The-

The Academic Fair culminat-
ed in an Amazing Race that tested the
endurance, knowledge, and skills of
students as they worked together as a
team in performing various tasks pre-
pared by the subject teachers and as-
sisted by Senior High School students. Junior High School students
were divided into ten groups. Mem-

group cheer competition on that day
where Team Compassionate won un-
der the leadership of Christian Galang
of 10-A.
Rico Balagot of 10-A, the
team leader of the Champion team
said, ‚The Amazing Race is an excel-
lent activity because we were able to
interact to other students that we did
not know. Each member of the group
showed their talent and potential
from every given task. As a team lead-
er, I told my members to maintain
positive concepts on their mind and
just believe that whatever task it is,
we can do it.‛

With the theme ‚Tulong Lasalyano…Panalong Negosyo,‛ the Parents-
Employers’ Association spearheaded the Grand Raffle Draw last February 8, 2017
at the Enrique Razon Activity Center which happened during the Family Day.
According to Mrs. Ethel A. Quiboquibo, the PEA President, ‚This year’s
theme is centered on developing the entrepreneurial skills of ANHS students for
them to be self-sufficient individuals. During the Preliminary draw held last Janu-
ary 17, the association gave away a Sari-Sari Store Package and two Reloading
Business, plus other consolation prizes.‛
Students, together with their family members and relatives attended the
said event. Before the grand draw, there were fun games, and BINGO social. It
was a chance for the relatives of the students to enjoy and see the school and
know the programs it is offering. Videoke machine, food stall business, and other

LATHALAIN
Mag-aaral ng Grade 10 at TVET
dumalaw sa CIW
Ni Jackson M. Ferrer, 10-B
Isang masayang pagbisita sa Correctional Institution for Women (CIW)
Ana Ria B.
Aguilar, Social Concerns Moderator at
Gurong Tagapayo ng Grade 10-A kasa-

Maaari nila itong
gamitin para i-print ang kanilang mga
proyekto. Isa itong paraan upang
makabawas sa mga gastusin at oras
ng mga mag-aaral. Sila na rin umano
ang magpapahiram ng USB sa mga
mag-aaral. Nais din nila na mabuksan
ang Computer Laboratory ng mas
maaga sa oras na 4:15 ng hapon sa
halip na 4:30 ng hapon upang maga-
wa nila ang kanilang mga gawain. At
panghuli, nais din ng kanilang partido
na magdagdag ng isa pang araw na
pagdiriwang ng Sportsfest mula sa
dalawang araw lamang at idagdag
din ang larong table tennis sa nabang-
git na Sportsfest.
Ang nasabing aktibidad ay
inorganisa ni G. Kent Alfred E. San

Nahalal bilang pangulo ng
Student Council para sa susunod na
taon si Angeliene Tulauan ng Being
Organized, Systematic, and good Ex-
ample to all Students (BOSES) Party
sa halalan na ginanap noong ika-10 ng
Pebrero, 2017.

Wednesday Good Day, inilunsad sa ANHS
nakapaskil na ‚Wednesday Good Day‛ tuwing Miyerkoles.
Nag- thank you sila. Sarap
Junelyn R. Domnigo, guro ng English, ‚I would like to share a Wednesday Good Day act from one of our Grade 9A students, Mr. Jose
Loreto Macabenta. One of his classmates, who is in-charge of collecting their Charity Day canned goods, shared that Atoy (his nickname) regularly gives two canned
goods every week even if it’s not the scheduled day of collection. What makes his act commendable is the fact that Atoy does not have a regular job, he helps out his
mother by giving part of his ESC subsidy monthly. But more importantly, he shares when he can. Another person I would like to share is Nico Sederio, the event hap-
pened last year. We were trying to look for a scholarship grantee in class and Nico was one of the two identified students by our class officers. We know Nico needed
the support because only his aunt supported him, and he does not have regular support. We asked both students to
share details about who supports them etc. Our Grade 8 officers and I decided to give the scholarship to Nico. But
after the meeting , Nico spoke with me in private and told me to give the scholarship to his classmate, because he
believes his classmate needs it more than he does, and that he can still manage. He also asked me not to say any-
thing to anyone. I applaud this gentleman’s simple act of kindness.‛

Bas-
pag-aaral. Sikapin nating makatapos ng pag-aaral. Nariyan naman sina
sir at ma’am.
Kumbaga, ikaw ang ‘flavor of the month’.
ugali mo, wala ring saysay.
tumatanda tayo at namamatay.

harap.
‘Dedikasyon at Determina-
ating buhay. Hanggang sa muli!
Love doesn’t mean you own a person, thing, place, etc. Love can
be defined as freedom and hospitality. You should make the person hap-
py and feel that s/he is comfortable with you. Nowadays, teenagers ex-
press their love when their status switches from ‘single’ to ‘in a relation-
ship’ in social media.
Teenagers sometimes need to put themselves into danger to
prove that they love someone. They do not think that they are losing
their integrity. Love nowadays can be bought by money. Materialism is
one reason why love doesn't work. After a few months or years, they will
be separated because they don’t have enough money to support the
needs especially if they have children.
I want to enlighten their minds especially our generation that the
concept of love is very powerful. You can save life sometimes with love.
You can feel free with love. Love does not need material things because it
will come from our hearts. It doesn’t mean that if you love someone you
need to buy expensive things or gifts to say ‚I love you.‛ It is a wrong
concept. Love simply needs time and communication.
Love is an action, reaction, sentiment, thoughts, reason, interac-
tion, and motivation. It is survival, logic, trust, God, people, and life.
Love is a choice to survive. You need to have one thing, the desire to sur-
vive, the will to live. However, the need to survive is not enough. You
can be starving or have food around and not eat it anyway. You have to
want to eat it. That’s love.
Superpowers
Do you have superpowers? Can humans have superpowers or is
it reserved to fictional characters or paranormal abilities? If given a
chance what superpowers would you wish to have? Would you like su-
perpowers of invisibility, superhuman strength, healing, water breath-
ing, invulnerability, time travel, night vision, telepathy, superhuman
speed, wall crawling, precognition? And the list goes on.
Superpower according to Wikipedia is also a term used to de-
scribe a state with dominant position, which is characterized by its exten-
sive ability to exert influence or project power on a global scale.
I know it is hard to say, but this is my opinion because I don’t
have superpowers that can sling a web or become invulnerable. Regard-
less of others’ perspective I believe I have superpowers which are re-
sponsibility, productivity, talent, and fear of God.
Sometimes it is only in the mind. If we believe we have powers
then our actions would follow what our minds dictate. Of course like
what Spiderman said, ‚With great power comes great responsibility.‛
We should not use our superpowers in a bad thing because it can be abu-
sive or it can overpower us. Sometimes powers can be a destruction if we
cannot control them wisely. But it can be helpful if we know how to use
it to help and inspire others.
I may say that powers can be our own abilities in many ways.
We can do anything if we have love. Love is power. Power is every-
thing.
May ginagawa tayong

Kahit sinong pinakamatalinong nilalang,
Kayang paurungin ang buong isipan;
Kaya naman ang payo ko sa mga kabataan, hinay-hinay lang; Unahin ang pag aaral at ialay sa magulang;
Paalala lang sa pag-ibig na nararamdaman, Kailangan ding paganahin ang ating isipan;

Sabi niya, “Time management would be a great answer, but then I have a difficulty in that aspect. So it is just my will and ea-
gerness to reach my goal that pursued me to be a mother, daughter, sister, employee, and student simultaneously.”
Ayon sa kanya, “I knew, by graduating with an academic award, I
am already an inspiration to ANHS students, who, just like me have more than one task in their lives especially those who became parents at an ear-
ly age”.
Salamat
Bawat isa, may sari-sariling tadhana.

LITERARY THIRD TRIMESTER 2016-2017 7
Hope By Maybelle M. Tychico, ANHS Batch 2011
La Salle Green Hills-Adult Night High School is an institution that I will always equate with the word hope, hope which is missing with most of us before we became a mem-ber of the institution. I was once then one of the million people who wanted to go to school but the reality which my family and I had made it impossible for us to be in any of one. Public schools re-fused to accept us since we didn‟t have the proper documentation for admission and many other contributing factors. It was a circumstance I had to deal with for several years. Did I feel sad about it? Yes. Did I lose my faith to God and my parents? Then in 2007 my faith was turned into reali-ty when I applied in LSGH-ANHS and got admitted. During the first year of stay at school, I felt that all experiences that I missed for years I stayed out of school were all covered in a year. I was part of a club which I wished to join even before I stopped going to school. I was elected as vice president and became part of Student Council. I joined in different activities like tree planting, visiting the penitentiary, and many other experiences that made me feel
that it was worthy to wait for that long. As different activities in school kept on giving me new venue to know myself, I reached the last stretch of my journey as a high school student. Then the next question I had was, “Where will I go next?” I know that going to college also means a significant amount of
money which I don‟t want my parent either my siblings spend on my education. Answering this question was not easy. ANHS was not yet done in helping me and ensured that we would be given a chance to continue our studies. The administrators during that time invited representatives from different universi-ties in our school so we can have an overview of the possible college universities we can apply
to. One of them was De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. While the representative from the school was talking, I said to myself that I wanted to be ad-mitted in that school. Our guidance counselor that time, Mr. Ronn Belen helped us to process our application. I took the exam and gratefully I passed the exam. So I entered CSB. As a college student back then I was encouraged to do my best and achieve great things just like what I have done in high school. I worked hard to do good in exams, quizzes, and other school activities. I pressured myself in meeting deadlines. When I had exams I would review up to the last minute just to make sure I am not missing anything, and I was never late in my classes. After doing so I was able to attain some recognition, and I was happy, but then I looked around and everyone seemed to survive with minimal effort. Sometimes I would review for long hours, and my classmates would come to class unprepared. In my astonishment they were getting better grades than I did. I felt that what I was doing was useless and that I was not improving. I lost my motivation and let the pressure of school load not bother me, and by doing so I let everything to pass by. Yes it was easier to take minimal effort and be contented with an average grade. Yet as time went by, I felt that I was losing the pride that I have with myself as a person. I felt like a paper thin floating and wondering waiting to get out of college. I thought I would finish my degree that easy but as I entered the last trimester of my second year things got ugly. I failed the second part of my thesis. I was very sad, but I know that I deserved it . My sadness went beyond failing that course. My sadness was deeply rooted to the fact that I was not able to do some-thing for myself knowing that my mediocre paper was not bad as those who passed. I could have done something for myself. I could have made a better paper, but I didn‟t because I was not willing to put the hard work because it was easier not to do so. In this regard, I just like to emphasize two points. First, not all things that are easy is the best way to go. I know it was said many times, but I am just making it a point because it is true. Second, you have to decide for yourself because no matter how much people around you want you to succeed and make a room for those who don‟t believe in you, it is you who will do it for yourself. I know it not easy, but it is the only way to go about it.
ANHS is more than a school to me, it is a place run by people who have unconditional love for people who don‟t have anything to give. Indeed I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Mr. Rheal D. Dayrit who made it possible for my sister and I to finish our studies, Miss Cristina P. Sar-miento and Mr. Rey B. Ducay who unceasingly supported me, to all my teachers, and staff. God, you are the reason for everything, thank you. As the lines from the song say “Even if we just light one soul. We‟ve won.” Animo La Salle!
Summer By Frank L. Orden, SHS-ABM
It was a sunny morning, and it felt so hot. While driving I was listening to the radio, and accidentally it was tuned in the
AM channel. The broadcaster was reporting about the program of Adult Night High School in La Salle Green Hills. It was surprising
that the school offers that kind of program. It was the first time I heard about it. At first I ignored it. On the second day, I heard it
again, and on the third day, the same thing happened. He kept on repeating the advertisement every day. When I got out early from
work I remembered the news. I went to La Salle Green Hills to inquire. When I arrived at the principal‟s office, the registrar said that
the enrolment was over. I was about to leave the office but a man behind the door said to the registrar to accept my application. The
man came out and asked me if I‟m really serious about going back to school. And I said, “Yes, sir.” The woman asked me to submit
my requirements, but I did not have anything to give. The principal told her never mind and just include me in the list. He instruct-
ed me to go back on the date he gave me for the entrance exam and complete all my requirements. After the exam they were not
sure if we passed or not, that‟s why we, the last batch of examinees were asked to attend the Summer Bridge Program.
I started going to school. I met new friends. I enjoyed the learning sessions, and I felt comfortable. It felt like I went back to
my high school days. After a couple of days going to school, I felt tired. I felt sleepy during my work. My body was strong but my
eyes were tired. It was hard for me to adjust. Every now and then I had to manage my time wisely. It took me a month or more to
adapt and make adjustment from my schedule. I used my break time to sleep. I found a way to take a nap whenever possible. As
time went by, I was able to cope with the schedule of work and school. I actively participated in every activity of the school. I also
helped my classmates to understand our lesson. I used to be friendly and helpful to others, but my wife got jealous. Sometimes
when we had extracurricular activities, I was not able go home with them. I lived separately with my family. Yes, it was hard to
manage work and school at the same time plus a family to support. I just did anything that I could to balance everything.
All the hard work and sacrifice during our school days are worth it. “Time is gold,” my friend from a distance told me. “The
important thing is we graduate, the medal is just a bonus.” And it happened. Finally we were able to reach our dream. I thank God
for the guidance and blessing he has given me. Thank you Adult Night High School and also to the La Salle community and the De
La Salle Brothers who are helping other people to transform their lives. LSGH is a generous school for those who have none and
students who stopped but are still dreaming of finishing their secondary education. It‟s a well-known institution inspired by the
thought of Saint John Baptist De La Salle to help other people. Animo La Salle! I am proud to be a Lasallian! Live Jesus in our
hearts, Forever.

Teacher/Student Exchange
Program at LSVMS
By Frank L. Orden, SHS-ABM
‚We believe that while they were there for an exposure to the culture
and the school’s system, they were also there to represent La Salle Green Hills as
an institution that fosters inclusivity and harmony among races, among genders,
etc.‛ according to ANHS Principal, Mrs. Agnes C. Alonsozana as faculty and
students of ANHS participated in the Teacher/Student Exchange Program at
Leonides S. Virata Memorial School in Rio Tuba, Bataraza, Palawan. Miss June-
lyn R. Domingo and Mr. Kent Alfred E. San Felipe represented the faculty while
Arvie Fronda and myself, Frank Orden were the student representatives.
Let me share with you our memorable experience as we visited LSVMS.
From Manila to Puerto Princesa airport, we had our lunch at Robinson’s Pala-
wan. After five hours of travel by land, we reached Rio Tuba. We arrived at 6:00
p.m. in the Guest Lodge. Miss Malou, the assistant principal of Grades 9-11, two
guidance counselors, and students warmly welcomed us.
On our second day, we proceeded to LSVMS. We were welcomed by
the principal, teachers, and students. We had a campus tour. They showed us
their laboratories, library, and other facilities. After the campus tour, we went to
the Rio Tuba Nickel (RTN) gym to watch some of the performances by the stu-
dents. We were invited to witness their Foundation Week Celebration. The
theme was ‚Remembering the past with gratitude, Reliving our dream today.‛ It
was a week full of activities and competition performed by the teachers and the
students of LSVMS. We went out of the gym for a while to visit the booths in the
RTN oval. Some parents together with the students were selling their products
which they harvested from their backyard and sold them at cheaper price. We
went back to RTN for another program, the Literary Musical Contest. It was a
singing contest for students in different categories. In this part, we participated.
We rendered an intermission number. I sang while Miss June, Sir Kent, and
Arvie (Deaf student) did the sign language. In the afternoon, a shuttle bus of Rio
Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) picked us for the Town site and
Mine site tour. We went around the mining area. They showed us and explained
how to be responsible in mining and how to restore a mining area to bring back
the forest. The town site is located in Barangay Rio Tuba under the municipality
of Bataraza. It is a place where all employees of the mining company live and
stay. Everything that you need is here: hospital, chapel, wet and dry market,
restaurant, sport amenities, and the school, LSVMS. This is how they pay back
and treat their people to show how responsible they are. After that, we attended
the Faculty and Staff Night at the RTN gym. Teachers, administrators, janitors,
and even security guards participated in this event. They showed their talent in
singing, acting, and dancing. We were not exempted in this activity. For the se-
cond time, we did our intermission number. This time, we danced. The whole
night was full of performances and happiness. Their preparation and effort were
worth it. The audience, visitors, guests, and students were very happy and en-
joyed the show.
On the third day, we witnessed a Field Demonstration at the RTN oval.
Grade School students performed a ground demonstration led by their teachers,
mentors, and choreographer. High school students performed a street dance as
part of their performance task. All the students enjoyed their performance. I
couldn’t even see tiredness on their faces. After the Field Demonstration, the PE
Day followed. The most memorable experience for me was when I joined the
cultural game patintero with the Grade 10 students. Our opponent was Grade 11
students. Patintero is a physical game wherein you have to catch your opponent
to protect your home by not letting them in or out of your boundaries. Another
activity was the Bb. at Lakan ng Kalikasan at the RTN gym. It was a pageant
where the students had to create costumes out of recycled materials and be cre-
ative. Miss June and Sir Kent served as official judges for the event. The day was
filled with different meaningful activities. Since it was our last day, we bonded
with the students. They also learned sign language from Arvie and Miss June.
It was a once in a lifetime experience. I am very thankful for this one of
a kind activity that our school has. It is an honor for us to have met generous and
talented people of Rio Tuba who shared their way of life with us. I hope that
activities like this will happen again and more students can participate so they
will experience too what we had.

were held from February 4-22, 2017.
Students were accompanied by their respective organization moderators
during the outbound trip. Members of Computer Club attended a workshop in
Mind Museum, Taguig City on February 04, 2017. Members of KamPil, Deaf Bud-
dy Club, ANHS Chorale, ANHS Magwayen, Sayaw Lasalyano, Kusi ng La Salle
and Biswal participated in the 13th Pasinaya Open House Festival: Palabas at Pali-
han, with the theme "Arts for Peace" on February 5, 2017 at the Cultural Center of
the Philippines. Members of Punlad, Uhay and Math Circle visited Fort Santiago
on February 9, 2017. Members of Sports Club and Science Quest trekked toward
the summit of Mt. Balagbag in Rodriguez, Rizal on February 12, 2016 as part of
the school's outbound activities. Members of Kamalayang Pilipino and Basic Ec-
clesial Community visited churches in Rizal province on February 22, 2017.
According to Majorie Peligrin, ‚The outbound trip is helpful for students
to enhance their skills. As part of the Chorale family, our visit to CCP was memo-
rable for me. We watched a play, concert, and other performances.‛ ‚Masaya ako
