2 President’s Message MAY 2018

I want to notify you of the passing of board member, Dottie Pope. She was a strong force in moving Four Colonies forward in difficult decisions she was able to contribute to. She will be missed.

Thanks for attending the annual meeting. We were able to reseat 3 existing board members working on important projects. Welcome back Ann Schenke, Sara Hurley, Stefanie Weishaar. We also welcomed two new members: Dale Thomas and Amy Guion. They are already assigned to committees and ready to go.

I hope you were able to make it to the Annual Easter Egg hunt at Clubhouse 1 on March 31st. Darlene Lindsey did an amazing job of organizing a great party. She and her army filled and hid 300 eggs full of candy and money. It is a big undertaking and Darlene makes it look simple. Thanks, Darlene for all your hard work.

Also special thanks to Jim Lindsey, Shannon Gibson, and her children Sean and Conner Gibson, Jennifer Lindsey and Mike Gray. Additional help was provided by Sara Hurley, Marty Sprinkle, Dawn Harmon. A special visit by our favorite Easter Bunny aka David McKibben was appreciated. Thanks to those who took a chance on the weather and came out to make it another special event.

The next event will be a Community Garage Sale. The weekend of June 1, June 2, and June 3.

Thanks for your support so we can continue to host events for our homeowners.

Linda Khan-McKibben Four Colonies President —————————————————————————————————————————————

Board Member, Dottie Pope, passed away April 4, 2018. Dottie served on the Board from 2010 to 2013 and 2015 to 2018. Dottie chaired the Architectural Control Committee and the Paint Committee. We will miss her very much. Four Colonies was fortunate to have benefited from her leadership and experience.

DOTTIE POPE

Dorothy (Dottie) Pope passed away April 4, 2018, after a long battle with cancer. She was born Dorothy Khachadoorian, September 1934, in Albany, New York to full blooded Armenian parents. She attended Emma Willard School and went on to complete her Master’s Degree in Comparative Literature at Boston University.

Dottie lived in and around the Kansas City area for most of her life where her three sons were born. She was lucky enough to relocate to Australia where she had the opportunity to work as a TV commentator. After returning to the U.S. She resumed TV commentary for a station in Topeka. She worked in Kansas City for a government health insurance company and The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She returned to school and earned a Masters Degree in Social Work, and worked for Kansas City Hospice.

One of Dottie’s passions was Art, and over the years, she attended classes at the Kansas City Art Institute and Johnson County Community college where she became an expert in clay sculpture.

She loved to love, loved and adored her family, companion Don and friends. She cared about the community and delighted in making art. She traveled the world with joy and curiosity. As a social worker she was always working for the underdog. She loved to cook, garden, read, fish, learn new skills, and develop her talents. Giving was more important than receiving. She cherished diversity, was a mentor and was mentored by many. She loved to work, play, love, and laugh.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Collection will be made on the following MONDAY dates:

Please have your paper bags or 18” x 36” bundles out by 7:00 am

Thank you for choosing Republic Waste for your yard waste recycling needs. We appreciate your business and look forward to a great year.

All items must be packaged in paper lawn waste bags or tied into 18’ x 36” bundles.

Route Service begins at 7:00 a.m. Please make sure all items are easily accessible from the street.

We only pickup natural yard waste including grass, leaves, tree limbs, flower or garden plants (without their pots), walnuts, apples, Christmas trees (6’ or less), etc. All materials collected are taken to a licensed compost facility. This recycling facility does not allow for ANY trash, landscape, or construction materials. If bags contain trash or foreign material they will have to be left at the curb. Any plastic inside your bag will be considered trash and not picked up. We do NOT collect animal waste. Please tie brush securely with rope or twine – not wire. Mark bundles of thorns for the driver’s safety. Christmas Trees are the only items that do not require bagging or bundling. We will accept Christmas trees up to 6’ in length, if larger please cut in half.

Maximum item weight is 50 pounds. Do not use plastic tape on paper bags since it is not biodegradable. We suggest that you bundle or use boxes for small brush, wood or items that would easily break a bag during removal. We ask you to not use cans for your waste.
