The Painting

In Romania the painting is an art form easily approached.The themes of traditional works are the rustic landscape,the country life and also the human condition.Nineteenth and twentieth centuries represented the highest point of evolution of graphic art. The first initiatives occur in the late nineteenth century when George Asachi inaugurates " The Painting Class" and he recommend to the painters the historical theme , although the theme approached was mostly romantic .The most famous Romanian painters are: Theodor Aman, Nicolae Grigorescu, Ion Andrescu, Stefan Luchian, Iosif Iser and Camil Ressu.

1. Theodor Aman (1831-1891):- an accomplished artist with academic studies in Paris-set up in Bucharest in 1865 " The Academy of Fine Arts" which he will drive for over 25 years- initiate collective exhibitions, the first being "Living artists exhibition" in 1865

2.Nicolae Grigorescu (1838-1907):- come to Paris with a scholarship becoming a student of the School of Fine Arts and conscientiously studying the great masters such as Rembrandt, Rubens and Géricault-is influenced by the paintings of Millet, Corot and Courbet he achieved a personal style merging the three styles

3.Ion Andrescu (1850-1882):-graduater of School of Fine Arts from Bucharest ,he teaches for seven years in Buzau without providing his future as a painter-in painting begins first with modest subjects, still lifes, portraits but his true vocation is landscape painter

4.Stefan Luchian (1868-1916):-brings an air of modernism from Munich or Paris

5.Iosif Iser (1881-1958):-is marked by Parisian artistic atmosphere-is inspired by the peasant life having contact with the dobrogean universe-paints many times landscapes and exotic loaded human faces
