    1. Plan Your Purpose

    Know the outcomes of your

    presentations. Please remember that

the end outcomes of what you want

to achieve and the outcomes of your

presentation are very different and yet

have to be in alignment with each

    other.

For example: if my end outcome is tosell an ide then that would not be the

    outcome or purpose of my

    presentation. The purpose of my

    presentation would probably be:

    a. To position the science or

    facts behind that idea

    b.

To discuss the pros and cons

    of the idea

    c.

    To position the business case

    of the idea

Quick Tips: Use verbs to set objectives.

Move from Low Order Thinking Skills to

High Order Thinking Skills Eg. List or

    Define to Analyze or Create.

    2. Use The 05 Greek persuasion principlesA. Ethos Using ethics, values and integrity to build credibility for you as a

presenter and the topic in hand.

    B. Logos Using logical reasoning, facts and data to increase the authenticity

and thus the belief in whats being presented.

    C. Pathos Creating an emotional connect, an emotional experience which is

engaging with the heart and not just the mind

    D. Kairos The timing of the concepts, the key messages and the

presentation itself is very critical.E. Topos The style and context that is used keeping in mind the audiences

is very critical to the acceptance of the presentation notions, ideas or

    information.

    4. Make use of all representational systemsA. Visuals Can you imagine; can you see the big picture

    B. Auditory Do you hear the applause? The sounds of the crispnotes

    C. Kinesthetic How would that you make feel? Do you sense the

discomfort in doing so?D. Olfactory I smell something fishy; the fragrance of flattery

    E. Gustation How tasty that was? That is just not meant for mypalette

Each of us experience the world using these senses and this just

makes your presentations more engaging, connecting and

appealing. Your own 5D movie! The VAKOG

    3. Use the old wise mans

    saying

    1. Tell Them what you

    will tell them

    2. Tell Them

    3. Tell Them what you

have told them7. Know your audiences

and accept themTo know your audiences, study about

them, ask them questions that tell you

    more about them. Value their

    experiences, their space for learning,

their past and their ambitions and ask

yourself what are you doing to add

value to them while they are with you?

The first step to accepting them isto first accept your own self the way

you are. And when you do that you

begin to explore the beauty of helping

    yourself and your audiences become

what they are capable of being. Thatswhat acceptance does it nurtures, it

    helps grow, it gives direction.

And if and when you stop accepting

and you start treating audiences the

way you want them to be rather than

who they are then you may land up

    stunting development, being

apathetic to their needs and thus not

helping even yourself grow. And you

are smart enough not do that or want

    that done to ou.

As opposed to the conventionalmeaning of Building a Bridge i.e.breaking ice here building abridge means creating a structurethat takes your audiences along. Thus CHUNKING is a very criticalskill. Use chunks of information andsupport them with visual and verbalchunks. Eg. I am going to talkabout 04 things this morning. Whenyou talk of 1. Use one finger to

visually illustrate. Before moving to2. Use a TRANSITION STATEMENTEg. Now that we have detailedout point 1. Lets move to point 2.

    Practice Chunking and

    Transitioningin your dailycommunication and be

amazed by the clarity it givesto you and your listener.
