Holy Communion During the
Summer Months Because of the vacation schedules of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Communion under both species is suspended during the summer months. For those who have gluten intolerance, a chalice with the Precious Blood will be ministered at the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday evening. This will go through the summer. Please also know that low-gluten hosts are also available at all Masses. One should stop in the sacristy before Mass to arrange for this type of host to be consecrated.

Stewardship A Way of Life
This Week’s Readings In today’s reading, Joshua challenges the people to decide whom they will serve. Recalling God’s faithfulness to them and to their ancestors, the people declare, “We also will serve the Lord, for He is our God.” We, too, must be mindful of God’s gifts to us and renew our commitment to serve Him with grateful hearts.
In Living Stewardship We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who choose God and service to our neighbor over every other responsibility, want or ambition as an act of good stewardship.

St. Agnes Cathedral School Principal’s Announcements
Welcome to a new school year which, no doubt, will have a surprise or two to reveal to us. I hope that any surprise will be a happy one. To all families and to our caring community I offer the warmest of welcomes. I hope that any
smoldering embers of regret about the passing of summer vacation will soon be extinguished by the renewing of old friendships and the making of new ones. I hope that throughout the year, our school will be a place where staff, students and families have opportunities to experience God’s presence in our lives. Although he lived about two and a half thousand years ago, the prophet, Jeremiah, has words that are still relevant for us at the beginning of this new school year: “The Lord says, I know the plans I have for you ….. plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11. With that said, please take note of the following “Back to School” dates and information. The first day of school for students in grades 1-8 is Wednesday, September 5th. The children are to report to their last year’s classroom by 8:15 a.m. School will dismiss at 2:45 p.m. All students in grades 1-8 should be in complete uniform. Girls’ skirts may not be worn more than 2 inches above the knee. Backpacks with wheels pose a potential danger and are not permitted. Kindergarten will begin on Thursday, September 6th and will be in full session. The children should assemble in the school yard at 8:30 a.m. on this day only. Kindergarten parents should be present on the first day. In the event of rain, we will assemble in the Carlin Dining Hall. Mark Your Calendars! Please join me, Mr . Brian Jensen, Assistant Pr incipal, and our dedicated school faculty for our annual Back to School Nights. Grades K-4: Thursday, September 13th at 7:30 p.m. in the school. Grades 7 - 8: High School Information Night Thursday, September 20th from 7:00-7:45 p.m. for 7th and 8th grade parents in the Parish Center. Grades 5-8: Thursday, September 20th at 8:00 p.m. in the school. Please note Back to School Night for parents of students in Grades 5-8 will take place in the school. Parents will have the opportunity to follow an abridged version of their child’s schedule. During these evenings you will have the opportunity to meet your child/ren’s teachers. The school calendar will be distributed during these evenings. For your convenience, it is available to view on the school’s website under “Upcoming Events.” Parents of students in grades 6-8 will also receive their child’s iPad. Enjoy the remaining days of summer. I look forward to seeing you in the upcoming weeks. Sincerely,
Mrs. Cecilia St. John Principal

RVC Homemakers
Join the ladies of the RVC Homemakers Tuesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. at the RVC Recreation Center located at 111 North Oceanside Road in RVC. We are a non-profit organization that helps local groups like food pantries, abused women, veterans and many more by making and donating crocheted and knitted hats and scarves, easy-to-make flannel shawls for hospital patients, and new socks for veterans just to name a few of our projects. We enjoy fun luncheon events and listen to informative, interesting speakers over a cup of coffee and delicious desserts. Come join us and meet our friendly members. Please call Christine Kelly at (516) 712-8608 with any questions. Our first welcome meeting is Tuesday, September 18th at 10:00 a.m.
