Letter from our Pastor- Carta de nuestro Párroco

Dear Friends,

You’ve experienced this scene before. The cashier announces: “Numbers 56 and 57!” You step forward and pick up your order from the fast food counter. You know what it is to be called. It happens at stores, at doctor’s offices, in classrooms, in many different situations. Some of those situations are easier than others.

But what is it like to be called by God? How often have you thought of that? Each of us is called by God. Maybe the call has not been as dramatic as the call of Samuel, in today’s first reading, where Samuel hears God’s voice calling out to him (and recognizes it with the help of Eli). Maybe we can’t easily point to a moment of decision like the scene described in today’s Gospel, with the call of the first disciples. But each of us is called by God. We have various vocations: whether to priesthood, single life, marriage, religious life, or diaconate. By our Baptism, we are each called to serve, to witness to Jesus, to follow in his footsteps, called to “see where he lives.” We are called to follow God’s plan for us.

A calling we all share is to pray and work for peace. May God’s peace rule our lives and guide our country.

La mayoría de nosotros hemos experimentado esta escena. El cajero anuncia: "¡Números 56 y 57!" pasen adelante y recojan su pedido en el mostrador de comida rápida. Sabemos lo que significa ser llamado. Sucede en las tiendas, en los consultorios médicos, en las aulas, en muchas situaciones diferentes. Algunas de esas situaciones son más difíciles que otras. Pero, ¿cómo es ser llamado por Dios? ¿Con qué frecuencia han reflexionado acerca de esto? Cada uno de nosotros ha sido llamado por Dios. Quizás el llamado no ha sido tan dramático como el llamado de Samuel, en la primera lectura de hoy, donde Samuel escucha la voz de Dios llamándolo (y reconoce su voz con la ayuda de Elí). Quizás no podamos señalar fácilmente un momento específico de decisión como en la escena descrita en el Evangelio de hoy, con el llamado de los primeros discípulos. Pero cada uno de nosotros es llamado por Dios. Tenemos diferentes vocaciones: ya sea al sacerdocio, a la vida de soltero, al matrimonio, a la vida religiosa o al diaconado. Por virtud de nuestro bautismo, cada uno de nosotros está llamado a servir, a dar testimonio de Jesús, a seguir sus pasos, a “ver dónde vive”. Estamos llamados a seguir el plan de Dios para nosotros. Un llamado que todos compartimos es el de orar y de trabajar por la paz. Que la paz de Dios gobierne nuestras vidas y guíe a nuestro país. Paz y bendiciones,

VINCENTIAN CORNER

For many years RA Parish Community has staffed a food pantry located in the garden room of RA Con-vent. The pantry is opened on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12:00 pm. It can be accessed by way of the driveway of the convent off Dry Harbor Road. What is provided is a mix of non-perishables. Frequently, a local Stop and Shop donates breads and sweets (which arrive around 10:30!). Anyone in need is welcome to come.

Durante muchos años, nuestra parroquia ha ofrecido ayuda por medio de la despensa de alimentos ubicada en el área posterior del jardín del Convento. Nursery Information Session
