“Robots are interesting because they exist as a real technology that you can really study - you can get a degree in robotics - and they also have all this pop-culture real estate that they take up in people's minds.”

PCMS choir took the competition

to the next level at the last

contest of the season. The

Interlude choir and the Finale

choir both took many

arrangements to sing. In musical

activities, a one rating is the top

of the scale, followed by two then

three. Both choirs finished with

the score of one in their group

piece. PCMS also had several

solos and ensemble groups who,

all together, had thirteen scores

of one and two scores of two.

Overall, PCMS Choirs had a

great competition.

Shoot for the Stars Last week, our PCMS

Archery Team competed against

40 other middle school teams in

Missouri. The competition was

held in Branson on March 24 and

25. Everyone did well individually

and the team placed 15th overall.

The next competition is May 11

through 13 in Louisville,

Kentucky. Let’s cheer on our

wonderful shooters as they make

their way to Nationals!

Recently, the PCMS Robotics teams competed in a state-wide

competition in Belton, Missouri. Saturday March 18th, the Cannonballers Orange and Black, joined together as a team to

compete against middle school robotics teams from Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri. Unfortunately, Cannonballers Orange, made up of

Kaleb Mumma, Ashtyn Webb, Aedan Sutphin, and Liberty Wallen, were cut from the competition in the quarterfinals. Seeing as though

there were 32 teams, making it to the quarterfinals is a big victory for PCMS. Coming up from behind, the Cannonballers Black team of

Ryan Guthrie, Caitlyn Matthys, Arjan Eshnaur, and Ava Robertson fought their way to a 3rd place win. Team coach, Mr. Nower, reflects on the tournament, “Our teams performed really well especially since

we competed against several high school squads.” Both Robotics teams had a great season and PCMS is proud of everything they

accomplished.

Bubbert Gang takes the Bronze

On February 24, 2017, the PCMS 8th Grade Jazz band were on their way to Jazz Fest 2017. After

weeks of practice, the band was prepared to compete against schools from all over the state. Jazz Fest was

held at Northwest Missouri State University. The band took an hour long trip to Maryville to play. Mara

Gullett, clarinet player, gave us a quote about her experience playing in a Jazz band. “It was fun that

uncommon jazz instruments got to play in the band and earn 3rd place.” The band, or “The Bubbert

Gang,” as they like to call themselves, performed the following songs: “Calle Caliente”, “Blues by Five”, and

“Bubbert Goes Retro”. The Jazz band continued to watch other bands from all over the region. They also

saw the PCHS Jazz Band perform.

Later that night, the band witnessed the Grammy-winning Count Basie Orchestra. They attended a

jazz clinic and also attended their concert. Lillian Puntney, French Horn Player, gave us her thoughts

about the Count Basie Concert. “I thought it was really amazing. The music was so good, the only words I

could think of were: THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER! It was so cool to see a professional band for free

(which is hard to experience for our age group). I got to see how awesome jazz music can be and how much

fun it can be to play. Seeing the Count Basie Orchestra was really just a dream come true.”

After weeks of practice, hard work, and effort, “The Bubbert Gang” earned a tie for 3rd place.

French Horn Players Lilly Putney and Chase Strong walked to the stage and were handed the trophy. They

all cheered with joy and happiness. The band took home the trophy and were relieved to be headed home

after a long night and a day full of jazz.
