The Peninsula Post September 2011 With over 3 months through the current Rotary year, I am pleased to inform that our activities towards community service- medical, non-medical, vocational, international and TRF - for the underprivileged and less fortunate brethren have moved forward satisfactorily. We have achieved greater depth in engagement of members in these service projects. Our members initiated and successfully completed Project Roshni – Cataract Eye Camp which covered over 200 patients in Simlanagar slum. We look forward to repeating our success in years to come. In line with this month theme “New Generations” we hosted RJ Archana of Radio City, held debate on “Aaj ka Upvas – No TV, Mobile, Internet” all deeply connected with the Gen Next. Seven of our members donated to the TRF and earned PHF/ multiple PHF recognition for their generosity. We look forward to higher participation by our members in the TRF and strengthen its efforts to serve the community. The Rotary International President Rtn Kalyan Banerjee has said that all Rotarians are guided by three emphases: the Family, Continuity and Change. We are working in sync with these “Reach Within to Embrace Humanity

• With over 3 months through the current Rotary year, I am pleased to inform that our activities towards community service- medical, non-medical, vocational, international and TRF - for the underprivileged and less fortunate brethren have moved forward satisfactorily. We have achieved greater depth in engagement of members in these service projects. Our members initiated and successfully completed Project Roshni – Cataract Eye Camp which covered over 200 patients in Simlanagar slum. We look forward to repeating our success in years to come.

District At Ur Doorstep (DAUD): 08-Sep-11

Our club “Lead Hosted” the joint DAUD meeting with 7 other Rotary Clubs co-hosting at MC Ghia Hall, Kala Ghoda, Fort, Mumbai. The co-host clubs are RC Bombay Hanging Garden, Bombay Harbour, Bombay Pier, Bombay Queen City, Mumbai Downtown, Mumbai Sealand and Mumbai South. Asst Trainer Rtn Arrow Sinha Roy spoke eloquently on “Global Grants” explaining how large resources could be raised by leveraging District & Global partner club funds to obtain matching grants from The Rotary Foundation. Rtn Dilip Vora spoke on “Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA)” explaining the procedure for obtaining FCRA registration. The joint meeting was attended by 89 members

“Miracles of Cow Therapy”: 15-Sep-11:

• Our club hosted Shri Uttam Maheshwari – an exponent on Cow Therapy. He is involved with setting up of ISKON Gowardhan village goshala and is practitioner of Cow Therapy.The speaker highlighted various difficult medical conditions resolved using various products obtained from cow like cow ghee, cow milk, “go mutra”, “go ark”, dhoop, face packs, etc. He distributed various cow products to all members. CD containing his detailed lecture on this subject was also distributed to members with Diwali gift at Diwali Party. The meeting was attended by 38 members incl R/Anns

“Radio Jockey – an interesting vocation” 22-Sep-

11Our club hosted “FM bole to Radio City 91.1” radio jockey Miss Archana. Most of us hear her on FM Radio City daily morning. She brought out various experiences in her journey as a RJ. All members appreciated her work and presence. The meeting was attended by 51 members incl R/Anns.

Archana was impressed with Rotary community service activities and covered her visit to our club on her channel next day morning.

“Churu Eye Camp”:

• Our club participated in Cataract Eye Surgery Camp organized by Churu Nagrik Sangh at Churu, Rajasthan.

• This project was initiated by PP Rtn Mahesh Marda

• This was sponsored by Rtn Brij Mittle, Jay Toshniwal, Neha Anil Jain, Sudhakar Mody and Vijay Zanwar.

“Project Roshni”: 25-Sep-11:

• Our club organized an important medical service project “Project Roshni” – Cataract Eye Camp at Simlanagar slums, Off Napean Sea Road, Mumbai. Over 200 persons were screened. 74 persons were provided spectacles on the spot, 58 persons with complex prescription lenses were provided specs made to order later on 09-Oct-11. 12 persons with cataract ready for operation were identified and surgeries started from next day at Municipal Eye Hospital, Near Do Taki, Grant Road East, Mumbai. More patients are coming forward after successful operation of other patients.

• This project was inaugurated by District Secretary Pradip Shroff and Dr. Mona Shah. Dr. Mona guided and assisted us in successful execution of this service project. This project was volunteered by 12 members, 7 R/Anns and 5 non-Rtn guests.

• This project was initiated by Rtn Gopal Dave & Rtn Ketan Manek. • This project was sponsored by Rtn Anil Jain, Anup Taparia,Gopal Dave, Jay Toshniwal, Kashi

Deora, Ketan Manek, Nilesh Shah, Pankaj Vora, Pradeep Kainya, Rajesh Shah, Rajiv Maheshwari and Sanjay Dalal.

“Ladies Meet”: 27-Sep-11:

• First Lady Rtn Asha Toshniwal hosted “Ladies Meet” at Hotel Sealord, Worli.

• She made demonstration of “perfume making” and “paper craft”

• Totally 22 R/Anns were present. • This meet was designed to create informality

amongst R/Anns especially of R/Anns of new members. This brings them together for fellowship and service programs.

“Aaj ka Upvas – No TV-Mobile-Internet”29-Sep-11:

• Our club hosted an “Inter-club Debate” on this interesting and topical subject.

• In today’s wired & wireless world where everybody is extremely “well connected”, it is almost impossible to imagine a situation without these “windows” to the world. Aptly the absence of these is like “upvas” i.e. abstinence

• The meeting saw lively debate between candidates fielded by the guest club Rotary Club of Bombay Queen City and the home club Rotary Club of Bombay Peninsula. Rtn Anup Gupta, Secretary of guest club moderated the debate. Passions ran high with the participants making points and opponents providing effective rebuttals.

• The meeting was attended by 45 members incl

R/Anns from both clubs.

Community Service (Non-medical):

• On 13-Aug our club celebrated Rakshabandhan – Bond of Love with underprivileged street children at Vatsalya. Our club is associated with this NGO since several years.

• We thank Rtn Manoj Pandya for initiating this project. • This project was sponsored by Rtn Brij Mittle, Chirayush Shah, Manoj

Pandya and Vishnukant Inani.

Our club donated Rs. 26,500/- to Shartul Foundation towards sponsoring 10 specially designed chairs for Cerebral Palsy children. Our club is associated with this NGO for several years.Rtn Anup Taparia initiated this project.This project was sponsored by Rtn Arun Gada, Jay Toshniwal, Manoj Pandya, Nilesh Shah, Dr. Rajesh Tiwari, Rakesh Shah, Sanjiv Barad, Vijay Biyani and Vijay Zanwar

International Service

• Our club nominated 3 candidates for Voacational Training Team (VTT), erstwhile GSE exchange program viz. Ms Chandani Baheti (Artist-Painter), Ms Surabhi Rathi (Artist-Commercial Art) and Ms Poorvi Bhave (Artist-Dancer).

• The theme this year was Artist, Sculptor, Architect• We were paired with Austria again this year for

exchange• The first round of interviews were held on 02-Oct-11

• Our club donated Rs. 25,000/- to Red Swastik Society to sponsor 5 sewing machines for their vocational training centre at Ramek, Nagpur. This project will train local girls and their skills would enable them earn livelihood to achieve better life for their families. Our club is associated with this NGO since last year.

• We thank Rtn Ramakant Chokhani for initiating this project.

• This project was sponsored by Rtn Anil Jain, Arun Gada, Manoj Pandya, Pankaj Vora and Ramakant Chokhani.

• Our members came forward in good numbers to donate to The Rotary Foundation and got the benefit of the attractive US $ rate of Rs. 45 when market rates shot up to Rs. 50.

• OCTOBER 2011 EVENTS

• Greetings from Rotary Club of Bombay Peninsula.•  01st October : District Seminar on Values & Ethics at M.C.Ghia Hall, Kala Ghoda,

Mumbai 400001 from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. Guest speakers: Hon. Justice Dhananjay Chandrachud and journalist & professor Shri Sanjay Ranade. We are the Lead Host for this District Seminar with 9 other co-cost clubs.

•  01st Octboer : District Festival – Dandiya: All Rotary clubs celebrate “Navratri” with Dandiya, Food and non-alcoholic drinks at MM Pupils School, Khar (W), Mumbai 7:30pm-11pm.

•  06th October : “DUSSERA” festival. No meeting.•  09th October : SOTS (Senior Officers Training Program) for district team 2012-13 at

YMCA, Near Maratha Mandir Theatre, Bombay Central, Mumbai from 9am-5pm. We are co-host for this District Seminar with 4 other clubs.

•  13th October : No meeting in view of AGM, Elections & Diwali get-together on 14th October.

•  14th October : AGM for accounts for the club year ending 30th June 2011& trust year ending 31st March 2011 and Elections for various posts for the Rotary year 2012-13 at 7:30pm.

• 14th October : “DIWALI” get-together. Enjoy the fellowship-nite with fellow members and spouses with grand entertainment, drinks & dinner at 2nd floor Hall, Garware Club House, “D” Road, Churchgate, Mumbai from 8:00pm.

•  20th October : Shri Sanjeev Nayyar, founder esamskriti.com & freelance journalist speaks on “The deeper purpose of life”
