These reports offer an insight in to your child’s academic growth over the last two terms as well as their social development. From my observations over the last few weeks and the conversations with staff, it is obvious that all the students have been working very well in class and their effort grade reflects this. This is an area to positively praise your child about something they can control with their learning. All students are going to have strengths and weaknesses throughout the curriculum but their effort is something they can determine. As a parent their effort is the one area of the report that I focus on to ensure that my own children are doing what they can to benefit their learning. If you have questions about your child’s academic achievement please make contact with your child’s teacher to discuss it in more detail. As always, the classroom teacher is the best person to discuss this with to clarify any concerns. Year 6 Students As these wonderful students embark on their last week of primary school it is important for them to remember with fondness their time at primary school. For many students (and parents and staff) this can be an emotional week for them. Most, if not all, are ready for high school. However, no matter how ready you are change can bring about anxiety. I have no doubt that each and every one of the amazing year 6 students will be a success at high school and I for one look forward to hearing about their adventures and successes into the next chapter of their lives. Year 6 – your legacy at Pennant Hills PS will live on long after you have left, such is the impact you have had on the school community. Enjoy high school and all it has to offer, remember to talk to your friends and parents about any challenges, support your friends and most importantly live you dreams. See you in the future! Pizza Lunch Congratulations to the wonderful students who have earnt themselves a Pizza Lunch with the Principal. Children in years 3-6 will join me this Wednesday for their lunch. Students in K-2 we receive their lunch in Term 1 next year. With the storms over the weekend we had to postpone yesterday’s lunch until Wednesday and we didn’t want children missing out on either the K-2 lunch or the Pizza Lunch that they had earnt. Congratulations to the following students; Millie Mc, Genevieve S, Alexander G, Rumeth T, Maysa G, Naomi M, George G, Kairav K, Dehira H, Alex X, Owen Q, Jaime A, Jade, F, Elizabeth M, Chloe X, Hunter P, Manna L, Jordan T, Harriet B, Jasmitha K, Munira G, Tom S, Lachlan Chiu, Lilly M, Sophie S, Luke N, Tristan T, Lucas M, Kate H, Joanna C Calendar Someday is not a day of the week. PHPS P&C Carols Last Thursday night the P&C organised a wonderful night of singing in preparation for the festive season. By all accounts it was a magnificent night (despite the threatening weather). Thank you to all who helped in organising the night and those that were able to attend. Staff Thank you to Miss Dale and Mrs Insuasti for their commitment and dedication to their classes throughout 2018. The students in their care have thoroughly enjoyed working with them and they will be missed. Unfortunately, at this stage they will not be at PHPS on a temporary basis in 2019. As we are aware in Education this situation may change. They will certainly be engaged on a casual basis when required. Congratulations to Mrs Jan Hiley who is retiring at the end of this year. Mrs Hiley has been at Pennant Hills PS for 23 years and has given so much of her time to this community. Tomorrow morning at 9:30am we will be holding a special assembly to acknowledge her career at Pennant Hills PS and the Department of Education. Her contributions are undeniable and all the staff and community wish her the best of luck as she enters the next phase of her life. We all hope you enjoy your retirement. Festive Season Congratulations to everyone at Pennant Hills Public School for all your efforts and achievements this year. This is an amazing school and I am already looking forward to next year and working with the community to support the holistic development of every single child at Pennant Hills PS. Have a great festive season with loved ones. Stay safe wherever you may travel and I look forward to seeing everyone return safe and sound for what promises to be an exciting and prosperous 2019. MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL K-2 Pizza Lunch – Wednesday 19 December Due to the power outage over the weekend, all K-2 students who ordered pizza for the movie day will have their pizza for lunch on Wednesday 19 December. Thank you Mrs Donoghue for organising all students to be fed with sausage sandwiches on Monday and reordering Pizza for Wednesday. Also thankyou to Mr McAnally and the amazing parent helpers for your assistance. Two celebrations in one week! If you have ordered lunch from the canteen on Wednesday, please cancel your order today. PARENT HELPERS NEEDED – If you are able to help tomorrow, please meet under the COLA at 12:50pm. Thank you Thank You Mrs Hiley Tomorrow we farewell Mrs Hiley. Thank you for your endless patience, motivation, persistence and knowledge you have passed onto students, teachers and the wider community. You have worked tirelessly for Pennant Hills PS over your many years of service. There is no such thing as goodbyes and farewells when it comes to teachers… because their teachings forever stay in their student’s minds and hearts. Wishing you a very happy retirement Mrs Hiley, we will miss you. Year 6 Clap Out Please join us on Wednesday 19 December to farewell our year 6 students at 2:30pm on the 3-6 site. Good luck to all year 6 students moving on to high school in 2019. Merry Christmas Wishing all students, parents, carers and the wider community a very Merry Christmas. To those families who are not returning in 2019, we wish you luck at your new school and with your new adventures. Enjoy your family time, relax, stay safe and do not forget to read. Looking forward to seeing you in 2019. Great Aussie Bush Camp – 2019 Leaders Day Last week on the 12th of December I had the privilege to go on the Great Aussie Bush Camp. It has definitely had a very big impact on the way I live my every day life. It has taught me many things, for example: It has taught me that every individual person has their own strengths and weaknesses and that if we put them all together then we can accomplish anything. The Great Aussie Bush Camp has also made me, look before I leap, (figuratively and literally) always put others before myself, listen to everyone, push myself out of my comfort-zone even if it means taking a few risks and most importantly: treat others the way I want to be treated. I learnt all of these lessons through different activities. During challenge ropes and the VERY giant swing I was constantly pushing myself out of my comfort-zone and at initiatives I learnt to listen well to others and include their ideas and suggestions whilst solving difficult problems and working towards a specific goal or objectives. P&C PRESIDENT

Our Twilight Carols event was a wonderful musical Christmas success, totally undeterred by thunderstorms! We had a huge turnout of parents, family and community, who enjoyed great performances by our bands, string group, choirs and a fabulous parent band. We even had a special visitor from the North Pole! Big thank you to Rae S who drove a team of helpers to bring the event together.

As this is our last newsletter for the year, I would like to personally thank you all for a wonderful year. Our volunteer team has grown and the help offered throughout the year has been fantastic. We held many exciting events and they were all very successful because of the support and help offered by you, thank you! Don’t forget, every bit of effort you put in will only benefit our kids. Thank you to all our volunteers who provided their time and effort, such as Class Parents who keep the information flowing all year, our volunteers at Fete, in the canteen, at sports days and carnivals, at BBQs, Mothers and Father’s Day stalls, the gardens, classroom helpers, readers, bakers and chefs and our school bankers to name just a few. To everyone who did something to help throughout 2018, thank you so much! To all the P&C Sub-committee convenors, committee members and many parent helpers, to our Band and strings conductors, thanks for all your expertise, time and effort. To Alison in the uniform shop and Carolyn in the canteen, thank you for all you have done and the great job this year. Finally to the P&C Executive members, the amount of time and effort you put in is amazing. All the events we attend and money we have raised for our school and our children is because of your hard work. Thank you for a fantastic job and another great year. On behalf of the Executive team and my family, we wish you a safe, fun holiday and whether you’re going away or staying home, I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous and Happy New Year. More importantly, I hope Santa brings many presents! See you all next year. Andrew Passé-de Silva 0410653878 [email protected] CANTEEN Canteen Is Open Tomorrow The canteen will be open tomorrow for both recess and lunch over counter sales and lunch orders. However, due to the storm and subsequent power failure, I have thrown away all of the frozen foods. Therefore, the previously advertised burgers, nuggets, hash browns, pies etc. are no longer available. Tomorrow’s menu will be freshly made sausage rolls, pizzas, sandwiches, toasties or wraps only. Flexischools has been amended to reflect these changes. If you have already ordered the unavailable stock, please log on and change your order. If I still have orders for unavailable stock tomorrow, children will simply be given a cheese toasty instead. Sorry for any inconvenience, but food safety is the priority. Cancelling Orders K-2 children who ordered a pizza lunch on Monday will receive that tomorrow. If you have placed an order for canteen as well and you no longer need this, please remember to cancel it on flexischools in order to get a refund. Year 5 and 6 children are also having class parties tomorrow, so again if you have ordered lunch and no longer require it please cancel on flexischools. I will process all orders that I receive tomorrow, as I have no way of knowing which children have ordered pizza or whether children are hungry enough for parties and lunch orders! Canteen Reopening In 2019 The canteen will be reopening in 2019 on Wednesday 6 February. I hope you all have a fantastic break and thank you for your help during the year. STRINGS NEWS As I say my farewell in the capacity of String Ensemble Coordinator after 9 years in the role, I would like to take this opportunity to say a very big thank you to the children, parents, and committee of the String Ensemble for their engagement and support this year! We have had an amazing year full of fabulous events - from Music Camp to Fete, school assemblies to Opera House concerts, and combined Socially Strings to our own String Soiree. Our year culminated in the Twilight Carols event, which was a wonderful evening despite the thunderstorms! Refer to the P&C section of this newsletter for photos of the night's antics.
