The Arms of Australia Inn Museum, Emu Plains.
23 February, 2020. Trip Report by George Glass.
hank you Fred for a wonderful day out at the Arms of
Australia
Museum at Emu Plains followed by an impromptu visit to Knapsack
Bridge
before detecting at Windsor and a great feed for dinner at the
Macquarie Arms
Hotel in Windsor. Not forgetting your victorious pool
championship ha-ha!

Robert Brown drove his magnificent Ford Model A to the Museum,
very
nice Robert. The Museum is normally open 1St and
3rd Sunday of the month but was opened exclusively for our club
on this
day. We were warmly welcomed by
volunteers Ted and Trisha with tea,
coffee and cakes while Manie and Neha brought a spread of
freshly
baked muffins, nibblies and assorted crackers. Very nice
indeed.
ed was a mine of information as he introduced the Museum and
gave us a guided tour through the
“Arms” with its fabulous history and many artefacts. A credit to
the volunteers who set up and run the Museum.
The outside area was just as interesting with many of us taking
a trip down memory lane with the “stuff” on show
which we could remember being used in our time. We decided to
have lunch on site as they had the facilities
and we all had a good old chinwag and catch up
about friends. Fred asked if anyone would like to visit the
nearby historical Knapsack Bridge to which most said yes
and others headed to the afternoon detecting site at Macquarie
Park, Windsor.

Knapsack Bridge was brilliant and we
weren’t to know that Roger had all the history in his head and
in a folder (he
just happened to have with him). He was able to point out the
exact places of
the Zig Zag rail sidings, points houses, stations etc etc that
once existed along
that section up to the bridge and even produce illustrations.
Very well done
Roger as it would not have been as interesting without your
knowledge and
input. The Knapsack viaduct was just stunning
and was well worth the detour to see.
On to Macquarie Park on the northern
shore of the river at Windsor Bridge where quite a few detected
for various rewards in gold ......... covered one and two dollar
coins haha! An enjoyable
afternoon in the sun before retiring to the Macquarie Arms Hotel
for a
nice dinner. Finished the day off with a few very
enjoyable games of pool with Fred, George, Robert and
Tristan.
Thank you again Fred for a very
interesting and worthwhile day outside of pure prospecting.

Trunkey Creek trip report
November 13th & 14th 2019 by Fred Krebs.
Trunkey Creek is about 55 Kilometres easy drive South of
Bathurst. There is a Police station, a Hotel and a Public school.
The population is about 120 people and it has a very nice Oval
across the road from the Pub.
There was a very good turnout for this trip, with more than 20
people. The Oval provided an excellent base. There were toilets and
plenty of undercover protection
from the elements. You could get power also.
The weather leading up to the trip had been hot and
unpredictable. There were recent fires in NSW and we wernt sure if
the trip will go ahead. However, things seemed to calm down leading
to the weekend.
Some people came a couple of days earlier, and even though there
was hardly any water, gold was won panning. I arrived Saturday.
Before I met up with everyone I Checked out a couple of spots I
have had some success. I found out where I wanted to go was closed
off due to logging so I had to change my plans. I found a likely
spot and a few of us ventured out. Gold was found in a little creek
and Orrie detected a little piece of gold.
That night we had dinner at the Hotel. It was nice to have a big
get together like this.
Sunday we ventured out again to look for more gold, but the
winners this Day were Paula and Lorna detecting old coins.
All in all the consensus was this was a good location and Base
from which to explore the region. There seemed to be plenty of
areas to explore and we weren’t far away from Abercrombie caves and
Tuena.

Saturday April 11th.
Man from Ironbark Festival at
Stuart Town.
Camping at Lake Burrendong Caravan and Holiday Park from the
10th of April.
Stuart Town lies between Orange and Wellington. Stuart Town is a
small town of about 300 people which is situated in a hillside
hollow, 34 km south-east of Wellington and 380 km north-west of
Sydney. It is a small service Centre to the surrounding area where
sheep and cattle farming and orchards are the major enterprises.
There are two general stores and a hotel. The route to Stuart Town
follows that to Lake Burrendong. 5 km south of Wellington turn
left. After 16 km there is a T-intersection. Instead of turning
left to the lake, turn right and head south. 3 km brings you to the
village of Mumbil. Although it was established with the arrival of
the railway in 1879, the village did not really develop until the
1950s when it became the home of those involved in the construction
of Lake Burrendong . Another 10 km south is Stuart Town. The road

Minutes for Prospectors Home Club Meeting held on 4th February
2020
Chair – Fred Krebs. Meeting opened 7:55pm. Minute taker – George
Glass. Welcome and Introduction Fred welcomed all members and
visitors to the club. Attendance & Apologies: Total attendance
(including visitors): 44 Total visitors present: 3 Apologies:
Pauline and Alan Fussell, Joe DeMarco, Beverley Houssenlodge,
Andrew Mc Laughin. Motion: That the minutes of the previous meeting
held on November 2019 as read in the Pic’n’Pan be confirmed as a
true record of proceedings at that meeting. Moved by: Campbell
Pardey; Seconded by: Robert Brown; Matters arising from the
Minutes:
i) Nil.
Secretary’s Report: No report as the Secretary is absent.
Treasurer’s Report (Robert): Robert read out the closing balance
for both the Savings and Check account. Robert also reported the
upcoming public Liability insurance. General business Proposed
trips: Fred discussed the upcoming trip on the 23rd to Arms of
Australia Museum in Emu Plains, there was a show of hands for those
interested (Aprox10). Sofala Show the same Weekend. Man from Iron
Bark Weekend of April. Wollongong in March was discussed (Approx.
10/12 interested). April meeting there will be a swap meet.

Gold”. Beware of Tungsten filled Ingots, bars and coins. Hard to
pick because
weight is almost the same.. 3. Central West Prospecting has
closed its doors in Mudgee.

4. Gold exports have exceeded Thermal coal exports. Gold is now
Australia’s 4th most valuable export.
5. Australia is now 2nd largest producer of gold. 6. N.T
Tragedy. Car breakdown in remote area. Of 2
people, 1 Dies. 7. Gold GST Scam explained by Campbell. ATO
Targeting
refiners to try to shut down the loophole than enable gold
traders to rort the system.

Ernie gave a demo of what to look out for. Campbell asked if
supplier was paying for advertising in our Newsletter, Discussion
on 10 AMP and 15 AMP leads. Fred then brought up the issue of New
SUVs that have a lot more electronics and questions, what can you
do if there is a problem in remote areas. Fred recounted an
incident where he had a problem with his electric starter motor in
his Toyota. The part was easily replaced in a short time in
Karratha. New SUVs like the new Defender 110, is probably a very
good off road and overland, the stats like approach-angle ramp-over
and Departure angle are very good. As is ground clearance and many
other features. But it has A LOT of electronics and sensors.
Presentation by Fred on Pre-decimal and Proclamation coins. The
demonstration part of the talk had to be passed over due to time
constraints, due to Membership/ renewal night Gold and treasure
prizes. NB: only one entry can be submitted per person per category
and all coins entered in the treasure category must be pre-decimal.

Prospecting WA. Training. A couple of experienced prospectors
(club members) have agreed to share some
of their experiences with interested financial members
contemplating a trip to the so called Eastern Goldfields of Western
Australia.
A venue and time schedule will be arranged in the Parramatta
area depending on
expressions of interest from club members received by 10/3/2020.
No fees will
be charged to members.
Topics planned include: What to pack (and not pack); How to
acquire prospecting rights and permits; Trip planning (schedules,
budgets, weights). Internet and
mobile phone accessible resources. Offline resources.
NOT included is any location information as to where a gold find
can be
GUARRANTEED. Those are just not possible, sorry.
