Dear Brothers & Sisters,

My prayer is that your Lenten journey is both fruitful and prayerful this year. We have many opportunities for prayer, fasting and almsgiving during this holy season. If you haven’t yet participated in the 40 Days for Life prayer campaign, I invite you to join us some Saturday morning in front of Planned Parenthood in Tempe. (Details are on page 9 throughout the Lenten Season.) If you can’t join us in Tempe, please offer daily prayers for an end to abortion. Since 2007, this world-wide effort has saved more than 16,000 lives. If you check 40daysforlife.com, you’ll see daily updates. Since February 26 this year, 137 babies have been saved. You can sign up for updates, if interested. Our own Parish website features Bishop Barron’s daily Lent reflections. If you’ve missed them so far, previous meditations are listed under each day’s reflection. Another excellent Lenten prayer opportunity is participating in Stations of the Cross at 7pm each Friday. Most Fridays the Knights of Columbus serve soup at 5:30pm in the Hall. This week we have Food Truck Friday in the parking lot from 5:30 to 8pm.

Also be sure to pick up a Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl that provides the entire family an opportunity to join with other Catholics to put faith into action as we serve those in need. Recipes, reflections and stories of hope are part of the Rice Bowl experience. Please return your Rice Bowl (with check or change) Palm Sunday weekend, April 4 & 5. The week before that, we’ve invited an amazing speaker to join us here at St. Timothy. March 30 & 31 will be a homecoming of sorts for Ennie Hickman, who was a Youth Minister here at St. Timothy a few years back. A full-time domestic missionary, Ennie will bring us practical and useful ways to better understand our call to follow Jesus as a disciple , as well as to bear witness to the Gospel in our everyday lives. He will help us hear Christ’s invitation and answer His call; and show us how having a fruitful relationship with God will bear fruit that yields amazing and lasting results. I don’t need to tell you that following Jesus in modern times can be a challenge; but Ennie will help us better understand what this looks like today and how we can evangelize in subtle and ordinary ways.

Of course, food is part of every great gathering, so we’ve planned a dessert potluck after Monday’s 7pm talk and an appetizer potluck at 6:15pm before Tuesday’s 7pm talk. Additional details will be in next week’s bulletin. Ennie, his wife Cana, and their seven children are pictured at left. Their goal is to “follow Jesus’s commands to love God and neighbor, and accompany people in this beautiful, messy, life of joy.” Be sure to mark your calendars. You won’t want to miss it.

In Christ who reigns forevermore,

Fr. John

“The atrium may be compared to a retreat house; as such it should be a place that facilitates recollection and silence, even in its external aspects of wall decorations and other furnishings. It is desirable that the atrium be “Mass-centered,” that is, a place where special prominence is awarded to the material relative to the Mass; a place where the baptismal font stands out in the area assigned to Baptism. The Gospel should have a position of honor and be located alongside the parable materials and materials relating to the historical life of Christ.” -– Religious Potential of the Child by Sofia Cavalletti, p 56

Encountering Christ LET US CONTINUE TO PRAY with the Holy Father for an end to abortion, contraception, euthanasia, child abuse and capital punishment, and that all world leaders will come to recognize the personhood of every human being, both born and unborn.

From 7am to noon every Saturday, you have an opportunity to spend time in ADORATION at the Aid to Women Center Chapel, 1849 E. Baseline Rd. in Tempe. Join us in praying for life and for an end to abortion. Info: Susan, (480) 491-8232.

Our Parish has been participating in 40 DAYS FOR LIFE prayer vigils for more than 10 years now. The unborn children and our culture need prayers more than ever. Though abortion rates are falling, we are, as a nation, still killing more than a million of our own children every year! As Catholics we are called to stand beside each other, with friends and family to pray on the sidewalk in front of Planned Parenthood and the Aid To Women Center at 1837 E. Baseline in Tempe (south side, just east of McClintock) during the 40 Days For Life prayer campaign. Pray with us now until Palm Sunday, April 5. Although you are welcome to pray there anytime, our designated prayer time is 9:30am Saturdays. (That’s the time most of us go.) Remember not to park in the lots adjacent to PPH or ATWC, as those parking areas are owned by surrounding businesses and they do not permit us to park there. Please park in the shopping center to the west, near McClintock, or on the side streets off Baseline, and walk back to our prayer zone. Prayer is powerful Let’s all do what we can. Abortion is now the leading cause of death worldwide. Questions or needs, please call Ken Maxwell, program director, Culture of Life, at (602) 295-4771.

The following words, written by a young woman who had an abortion, illustrate a common theme that is frequently encountered by those who have abortions. It clearly illustrates the need for the pro-life movement efforts to counsel those who feel pressured to abort, and to give them alternatives. She writes: “The counseling was only pro-abortion. No information was given to me about pro-life choices or agencies at the abortion clinic. They also told me it wouldn’t hurt. It was extremely painful. I was not told anything about how this would affect me for the rest of my life.” Your help at the Aid to Women Center and your prayers are greatly needed. What can YOU DO? Don’t allow the 40 Days for Life Campaign to pass by without getting involved. See the article above and pray! —God bless, Dcn. Dick, (480) 775-5271
