Increase the use of policy surveillance and legal mapping to build the evidence base for laws

that improve population health

Teach policy surveillance methods to individuals and organizations

Freely share policy surveillance methods, tools, related resources and empirical legal data

Build a trans-disciplinary community of individuals interested in laws that impact health

Program History

2009

The Public Health Law Research (PHLR)

program is launched with a grant from the Robert

Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF)

2011

The LawAtlas Policy Surveillance Portal is created by the PHLR team. It provides a platform for the systematic collection, measurement and

display of local, state, and national law.

2015

The Policy Surveillance

Program is founded with a three-year grant from RWJF

LawAtlas.org is the central place for creating, sharing, and accessing
