THE PORT OF MARSEILLE FOS :
Le FRENCH SMART PORT in Med
Med ports on the world maritime transport belt
Mediterranean sea : an essential crossroad area for two of the three biggest
world container trades : Asia / Europe and Europe / Americas
Marseille Fos: The alternative European gateway
European North and South ports yearly throughput of 77 million TEU’s is very unbalanced between
Northern sea front and Southern sea front : a 2/3 to 1/3 split to reach the global European market
Only three North European ports (
Rotterdam / Hamburg and Antwerp )
handled in 2016 close to 40% of the
total European TEU port throughput,
and 60 % of the North European
range.
Concentration at its peak now
produces delays on supply chain
deliveries beyond the terminal gates.
The North European relay modes,
even massified, are saturated at
times.
Marseille Fos: The Southern Gateway for Europe
The Mediterranean alternative can open new shorter and more
sustainable
routings.
