• 1913- R.I became home to an Armenian Immigrant passing through Ellis Island- Melkon
Rafaelian
• 1966- He and his son, Ralph, founded Cinerama in Cranston, R.I. when the state was the
jewelry capital of the world
• 2004- Ralph’s daughter, Carolyn Rafaelian founded ALEX AND ANI and kept her family
dream, and manufacturing alive in the same state
• Named after her eldest daughters
• 2009- first retail location opened in Newport, R.I. and still operates today
