Nearly 75% of Australia’s production is exported to more

than 100 markets. It is also the world’s largest exporter of wool.

Australia is home to a wide range of production systems for sheep, lamb and wool including low-rainfall pastoral, high-rainfall grass-fed and feedlots of all shapes and sizes. Wool production ranges from superfine to strong wool types, servicing a myriad of uses around the world.

LambEx conferenceLambEx conference is the industry’s flagship event. It is a whole-of-industry conference held biennially, rotating around the major lamb producing states of Australia. It brings together producers, researchers, educators, extension

officers, service providers, processors, retailers, wholesalers, food service and exporters into a single event.

The conference is a conduit for information exchange and incorporates a two-day program, welcome function and gala dinner, extensive trade exhibition and networking for delegates and sponsors. There is also a selection of post-conference tours, giving you the opportunity to see the Australian lamb supply chain first-hand.

The LambEx conference program is high-level and cutting edge, providing new and relevant Information that taps into the international perspective and provides insight into local production methods.

It is challenging, not shying away from the big-ticket topics or hard issues, including economic, environmental and social information.

Delegates go home even prouder of their association with the industry, with new contacts, a mind full of exciting ideas and a preparedness to make changes in their business to advance the industry. About LambEx 2018LambEx 2018 will be held in Perth, Western Australia, at the Perth Convention

and Exhibition Centre from Sunday 5 August to Tuesday 7 August 2018. There will be post-conference tours to follow on August 8 and 9.

The Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre offers LambEx 2018 the opportunity to expand its trade, equipment and live sheep exhibition up to double the size of previous LambEx exhibitions – plus adding in the LambEx program features such as the Welcome Function, Breakfasts and GrandsLamb Dinner will make for a dynamic 2018 event.

Western Australia is home to the nation’s second largest sheep population but is the largest state when it comes to live exports of stock. It is a state diverse in its spread of farming systems and sheep breeds and so represents the perfect opportunity to sample a wide range of Australian production.

YOUR HOSTSLambEx is overseen by an industry committee based in Western Australia consisting of every step along the value chain. This 18-person committee will be available to discuss the Australian industry with you at length and answer any questions you may have. In addition, there are three organisations which international delegates will likely have contact with:

• AgCommunicators: AgC is the Professional Conference Organiser for LambEx. As an events, communication and marketing company, it has significant history in the sheep, lamb and wool sectors with staff who know the industry and its key contacts. For any conference-related enquiries, AgCommunicators is your first point of contact.

• Meat & Livestock Australia: MLA is the industry’s marketer of lamb and sheepmeat as well as the administrator of research and development funds on behalf of farmers. It is also responsible for such widely known international marketing campaigns as ‘You Never Lamb Alone’ and has markets in numerous countries which receive Australia’s lamb and mutton exports.

• Sheep Producers Australia: SPA is the industry’s advocacy body – liaising with national politicians and policy-makers on farmers’ behalf. It also has significant oversight of Australian marketing, market access and trade. It has strategic links with a number of overseas countries, such as through the Tri Lamb Group, a partnership between the United States and New Zealand.

Along the banks of the Swan River lies Perth, Western Australia’s capital city. Perth’s suburbs stretch along the river bank and the sandy beaches of the

Indian Ocean. Overlooking the city is Kings Park and Botanic Garden, one of the world’s largest inner-city parks.

Western Australia is the nation’s largest state covering 2.5 million km2 and nearly 12,500km of coastline.

• Climate: From the Mediterranean climate in the south, desert in the east and tropical conditions in the north, WA has a truly diverse climate. LambEx is held in winter so you can expect relatively cool weather, with possible showers, and temperatures ranging from 8-19°C (46.4 - 66.2°F). Monitor Perth’s weather online at www.bom.gov.au

• Flights: There are 18 international, 12 domestic and regional, and four general aviation airlines that operate at Perth Airport, connecting travellers to more than 110 destinations around Australia and overseas.

• Easy to get around: There is free city transport within Perth City on any form of public transportation at all times. So, wherever you’re staying in Perth City region, it will be an easy commute to and from the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.

• Australian Visas: All visitors except those from New Zealand require a visa to visit Australia. A business

visa covers stays of up to three months and can be applied for through the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection visit www.immi.gov.au. If you require a letter to support for your application, please contact the LambEx conference organisers by email at [email protected]

• Health and travel insurance: Travel insurance is recommended as Australia’s Medicare system does not cover visitors, except where reciprocal agreements exist under their public health scheme. Find out more online at www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/public/migrants

• Drinking water: Water in Western Australia is safe to drink from the tap.

• Smoke free: Smoking is not permitted indoors at hotels, bars, restaurants and cafes, shopping centres and major pedestrian malls.
