Analysis, replays and packages were also produced in Manchester, with reverse vision being fed back to the platform presentation positions.

Although this hybrid remote production was the ideal setup for BBC Sport for the World Cup, it still didn’t fully exploit the Manchester Production Centre’s potential. The facility has the technology to go to a full multi-camera remote production, if required – it just depends on the venue having the right capabilities.

A record-breaking 28.1m people watched BBC’s coverage of the tournament on TV and online; the most successful Women’s World Cup ever. Gravity Media’s support was shortlisted in the Editing – Sport category at the prestigious RTS Craft & Design Awards 2019.

THE PRODUC TION CENTRE , MANCHESTERThe Production Centre in central Manchester offers ‘at home’ and hybrid remote production and support services for live presentations and pre-records.

The facility comprises a large, three-tier production gallery, dedicated sound control and VO booth, two large edit suites and dedicated production area. The facility is connected directly to our London Production Centre via our UK network, with access to all our London-based facilities and our external connectivity partners.

Recent projects delivered have featured graphics managed by our in-house team, editing based on robust Avid/EVS workflows, and IPDirector PAM to browse all project content.

CASE STUDYThe Production Centre, Manchester was used to provide ground-breaking support to BBC Sport for the 2019 Women’s World Cup. The innovation centred on each match being presented live from pitch-side in France, whilst being produced remotely from Manchester and being fully supported by a technical team based at Gravity Media’s Production Centre, London.

It was a hybrid remote production in which each match feed was taken in full from the host broadcaster, HBS, but the live presentation and pre- and post-match analysis were all handled in Manchester.
