ABILL
further to amend the Punjab O~clal Language Act, 1967.BE it enacted by the Legisla c of the State of Punjab in the
r iflY-llinth Yl:ar of the Republic of I di?.z'as follows: -
1. (1) This Act may be called the Punjab Official Language
(Amendment) Act. 2008.
(2) It shall come into force at once, except the provisionsof
section 3-A, which shall come into rce after the ~xpjry of n periodI
of six months, from the date of its cqmmc:lcemcnt.
2. In the Punjab Official Language Act, I967(hereinaftcr ref~rred
\0 as the principal Act), after sectio~ 3, the following sections shall
be inserted, namely: . I

(3) The District Level Empowered Committee shall review
the implementation of the provisions of this Act, in all offices of the
State (Jovernrnent, public sector W1dert'akings, boards and local
bodies and offices of the schools, colreg~s a.nd universities of the
. State Govcrnrhcnt at the District level, an~ ~hal1send ~ report to theState Level Empowered Committee. "
. (4) The District Level Empo\veredCommitteeshall comply
with the directionsgiven by the State Level Empowered Committee
with reg~lrd to the implementation--of the proYisio~s of this Act and
shall ~ort back about the compliance of .such directions.
\0'5 The District Level Empowered :Committee shall meet atlL'ast one<: in two months.
8-D. (1)
~If any officer or official of the aforesaid offices is'
found guilty of~'ersiste~ violating the provisions
of this Act or the notification issued thereunder, he shall be liable
" for disciplinary action under the punjab Civil Services (Punishm.nt ,'"
and i\pp\.:al) Rules, 1970.~
(2) Action against the guilty oHicct or official, refeITedto in"
sub-section (1), shall be taken by the concerned competent
