General Instructions:The question paper has four sections, A, B, C and D.Section A contains questions of 1 mark each.Section B contains questions of 2 marks each.Section C contains questions of 3 marks each.Section D contains questions of 5 marks each. All the questions are compulsory.Read the questions carefully to answer.

SECTION A

1. When a rabbit spots a large animal, they freeze on the spot. Being completely still makes itharder for some predators to see them. What kind of adaptation is this?(a) Structural(b) Behavioural(c) Physiological(d) A combination of structural and behavioural

2. In which habitat, will you find animals with the adaptation of long eyelashes, padded hoovesand nostrils that can open and close(a) Polar region(b) Tropical rain forest(c) Desert(d) Grassland

3. Which adaptation helps Giraffe survive by reducing competition for food?

(a) (b)

(c) (d)

4. Which process occurs after a tube grows down from the pollen grain through the style to theovary.(a) Germination(b) Fertilization(c) Pollination(d) Seed dispersal

5. The types of pollination as indicated by A, B and C in the below given figure are

(a) A- Cross Pollination, B- Self Pollination, C - Cross Pollination(b) A - Self pollination, B- Cross Pollination, C- Cross pollination(c) A - Self pollination, B- Self Pollination, C- Cross pollination(d) A - Cross pollination, B- Cross Pollination, C- Self pollination

SECTION B

6. For most of the year, the Tundra biome is a cold, frozen landscape. This biome has a shortgrowing season. What kind of adaptations will be seen in the roots of plants living in thisbiome?

7. Tabulate the differences between wind pollination and insect pollinated flowers.

8. Each pollen grain produces two male gametes. How many pollen grains will be required tofertilize 4 ovules present in a particular carpel.

Or

A tomato flower, following the process of sexual reproduction, produces 200 seeds. What would

have been the minimum no. of ovules present in per- pollinated pistil.

SECTION C

9. (a) The Water Hyacinth is a free floating aquatic plant. Its roots do not attach to the bed of theriver or pond where they grow, but just float freely in the water. Also, the stems and leaf stalkshave hollow spaces in them.

How does the presence of hollow spaces in stems and leaf stalks help the plant? Explain youranswer.

(b) Unlike most of the terrestrial plants, the water hyacinth has stomata on both surfaces, notjust on the underside. Explain why?

10. (a) The Scarlet King snake (a non venomous snake) has evolved to look a lot like Eastern Coralsnake.

(i) Name the type of adaptation seen in this case(ii) Why do you think the Scarlet King evolved to look like an Eastern Coral

(b) Pit vipers are a subfamily of snakes found in Eurasia and the Americas. List 2 adaptationsof the Pit vipers and explain how these adaptations help these organisms.

11. (a) Observe the following seeds and predict their means of dispersal. State reasons for youranswer

(i) (ii)

(b) Why is the dispersal of seeds important?

SECTION D

12. (a) Mention the function of the following in sexual reproduction of flowering plants:-(i) Pollen grains(ii) Stigma

(b) Name the part of the seed that develops from the fertilized egg?(c) Draw a male flower and label diagram

(i) the part that produces the pollen grains(ii) the part that protects the flower in the bud stage.
