the red book of c.g. jungCreation of a New Cosmology
October 7, 2009 January 25, 2010
During the First World War Carl Jung em-
barked on an extended sel-exploration he
called a conrontation with the unconscious.
At the heart o this exploration was The Red
Book, a large, illuminated volume he created
between 1914 and 1930. The manuscript,
which consists o calligraphic script in bothLatin and Jungs native German and incred-
ible painted illustrations, contains the kernel
o his later work. This exhibition marks the
rst public presentation o JungsRed Book,
possibly the most infuential unpublished
work in the history o psychology.
TheRedBookofC.G.Jungis made possible in part by contributions from
the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association, New York and the International
Association for Analytical Psychology, and by grants from the Oswald Family
Foundation and the Ann & Erlo Van Waveren Foundation, Inc.

Karen Finley interprets Jungs dreams in a new perfor-
mance piece. This is not new territory for this controversialperformance artist. Her works have in some ways always
addressed the unconscious, including TheDreamsofLaura
Bush/ThePassionofTerriSchiavo at the Boulder Museum
of Art (2008); PoohUnplugged, detailing the psychological
disorders of Winnie the Pooh and his friends; and, pictured
below,ShutUpandLoveMe. Her visceral work was at the
