Everything happens over the network. It drives customer service, product procurement, revenues and just about every other mission-critical function. Employees, customers and partners all use it to access information and interact with each other. With applications like VoIP and streaming video, the demands on the network are growing each day. And as demands grow, so does the importance of a resilient network. If the network isn’t working, it can keep everyone else from working too.

Downtime comes at a huge cost. It can lead to lost revenue, service outages and even fines and penalties. And with the hourly cost of unplanned downtime in the millions of dollars for many industries, seconds count. By allowing uninterrupted access to critical resources, a resilient network helps keep your business moving. solVed.

Compiling a list of all the hardware and software components in use allows you to identify issues that may affect security or network performance. Also, consider current applications and data, including VoIP, e-mail, SQL, Internet and video-on-demand.

With this information, you can create a strategy. Consider both current and future business needs to help ensure your network can support growth. Before implementation, evaluate timing, availability expectations and component prioritization.

Assess

An assessment can map out all network devices, links and protocols and provide a detailed view of the complete LAN and WAN design. In addition to identifying critical network issues, it can also provide remediation to address them.

Before you can begin to improve your network, you need to perform an in-depth analysis of your current environment. We can help by reviewing all of the elements within your network, as well as how they work together. And once vulnerabilities are discovered, we’ll help you create a plan to address them.

04 The Approach

To design a network for high availability, you need to include multiple active paths for data as well as redundant network components. A WAN application delivery solution should include WAN accelerators to deliver LAN-like performance, load-balancing software to intelligently prioritize the delivery of critical applications and application delivery controllers to offload

server processing of web-based applications from web servers. LANs can be made more highly available by building in redundancy among the core components as well as including routing protocols. On both WANs and LANs, it is important to utilize network management, monitoring and measuring tools to identify, diagnose and fix points of failure.

The percentage of IT professionals who believe that increasing the efficiency and quality of their network will help reduce costs, increase agility and drive business goals.84%

A resilient network is an available network. By delivering overall performance enhancements, your network better supports your computing resources. And with virtualization or cloud computing technologies in use, this is especially important. Overall, the risk of downtime is reduced and business continuity is improved.

By keeping applications and services running smoothly, a more resilient network supports a more productive workforce. Customer service, web-based sales, databases, accounting and product procurement all depend on the network and are critical to maintain in today’s global, 24x7x365 business environment.

As your business grows, so do the demands on your data networks. A resilient network can better respond to the needs of your business. It can adapt to support more users or new applications and services, including the addition of VoIP to traditional networks, streaming video or delivering HD TV.
