resorter notes

The staff at Black Point Estate has planned special Mother’s Day boat cruises and estate tours for Sat-urday and Sunday, May 10 and 11, 2 to 5:30 p.m.

The events will honor the remarkable women of Geneva Lake with a voy-age with the Lake Geneva Cruise Line to Black Point Estate, an 1888 Queen Anne Victorian “summer cot-tage.”

This narrated boat tour will focus on many of the remarkable women that have lived along the Shore of Geneva Lake. The event includes a fi rst fl oor tour of Black Point and a presen-tation on the remarkable women of the Estate. Mimo-sas and chocolate covered strawberries will be served on the veranda before re-turning to the boat.

From 1888 through 1989 Black Point Estate was headed by women: Cath-erina Seipp, her daughter Emma Schmidt and her grand-daughter Alma Pe-tersen. In a time when men held most of the power, this was rather unusual; re-markable in fact.

Black Point Estate In-terpreter Jill Westberg will focus on the Seipp women and their lives-particularly the time they spent at Gene-va Lake. While their wealth afforded them opportunities closed to many, they were committed to helping to bet-ter their communities.

“We are committed to sharing not only the rich history of Black Point Es-tate, but helping to spotlight the history of the entire Ge-neva Lake region. We strive to deliver programs that are authentic, accurate and en-tertaining; history can be fun” said Dave Desimone, Black Point’s site director.

This will be the fi rst of

several new tour offerings this season. Plans are in the works for a beer tasting and book discussion over Fa-ther’s Day weekend and a monthly children’s themed event.

“Remarkable Women of Geneva Lake” tickets can be purchased through the Lake

Geneva Cruise Line at www.cruiselakegeneva.com or by calling 262-248-6206.

The cost is $44.00 per person (space is limited to 34 people per day for this event), and boats will de-part from the Rivera Dock 812 Wrigley Drive, Lake Ge-neva.
