Equipping and Sending God’s People to

Make a Christ-Like Difference in the World!

As We Gather: Welcome to our Easter celebration! We pray that the good news you will hear, speak, and sing this day will bring hope and joy into your life! Fear of death might seem an inappropriate topic for Resurrection Sunday. How-ever, in looking deeply within ourselves into what and why we fear makes Jesus’ resurrection not only a precious hope for eternity but all the more relevant to daily living. Christ is risen! He is risen, indeed! Alleluia!

Welcome to Holy Cross.

Thank you for choosing to worship with us today! We pray that you will encounter Christ,

the Living Word, and in a new way experience His mercy and grace today. Holy Cross is a

place that can change lives through the power of the cross. Worship allows you to sing and

pray in the language of your heart as God’s truth is expressed, His gifts are received, and

lives are transformed. Mission outreach opportunities both at home and around the world

abound through actual presence or prayer and/or financial support. A growing commit-

ment and practice of equipping the home to be God’s powerful tool for forming and trans-

mitting faith along with our Christian day school of recognized excellence committed to

inculcating a Christian worldview help us, with your participation, to make a Christ-like

difference in the world.

We are a congregation and people on a journey— thankful for what God has done in and

through us, excited as we respond to Him in worship and in our daily lives this next week.

Whether it is for a lifetime or a short season, we welcome you to join us on this journey.

Lord God, You have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the

ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out

in good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that Your hand is leading us

and Your love is supporting us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

If you are a guest or visitor, please fill out the white Guest Card in the pocket of the friend-

ship pads which will be passed during the service.

T DIVINE SERVICE, SETTING ONET

Sunday, April 16, 7:00 a.m. 9:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m.

LSB p. 151

We welcome you to worship this joyous Easter morning! Please review the commun-ion card found in the pews and if you believe the 7 points listed, please join us at His table. Otherwise, please come forward with arms crossed and we will be delighted to

bless you. If you are physically able, we encourage you to climb the steps to partake in individual cups or the common cup.

Kids are invited to shake their Resurrection Eggs each time

“Alleluia” is spoken or sung.

Prelude: Dawnbreaking over the Tomb: “Alleluias" have been omitted during

Lent in the contemplation of Christ's suffering. Today the "alleluias" of the congre-

gation once again soar heavenward in glorious praise. The stone has been rolled

away. The tomb stands open and empty. Christ's resurrection makes possible the

rolling of the stone of eternal death for Easter people. But something more: The

huge stone of despair, discouragement, doubt, and defeat can be rolled away from

each Christian's heart. To help us celebrate Easter the parament colors have been

changed to white, while banners and flowers adorn the chancel. The first sounds

we hear this morning take us back to the quiet sunrise of that first Easter morning.

The stillness is shattered by the rumbling of the tomb and the crash of cymbals as

our Christ explodes from death's grasp. He is Alive! Jesus Christ is risen! Alleluia!

Praise the Lord!

As the hymn begins, please stand and face the cross.

H. T. Smart; arr. S. Pethel This day of resurrection, let all creation sing,

For Jesus Christ is risen. We crown Him King of kings.

From death to life eternal, from sin’s dominion free,

For Christ has brought us over with hymns of victory.

Now let the heav’ns be joyful! Let earth its song begin!

The world resound in triumph, and all that is therein;

Let all things seen and unseen, their notes of gladness blend,

For Jesus Christ has risen, our joy shall never end.

Crown Him the Lord of life, who triumphed o’er the grave,

And rose victorious in the strife for those He came to save;

His glories now we sing who died and rose on high,

Who died eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die.

Who died eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die.

This day of resurrection, this day of resurrection. For Jesus Christ is risen!

Offering & Anthem: “Christ Is Risen! Alleluia!” L. Larson

Christ is risen! Alleluia! Christ is risen! Alleluia! Christ is risen! Alleluia!

Christ is risen! Alleluia! Risen our victorious head! Sing praises!

Alleluia! Christ is risen from the dead!

Gratefully our hearts adore Him as His light once more appears;

Bowing down in joy before Him, rising up from grief and tears.

Christ is risen! All the sadness of our Lenten fast is o’er;

Through the open gates of gladness He returns to life once more!

Christ triumphed and we conquer by His mighty enterprise;

We with Him to life eternal by His resurrection rise!

Christ is risen! Heaven rejoices: Jesus lives who once was dead.

Shout with joy, O deathless voices!

Child of God, lift up your head, lift up your head! Child of God, lift up your head!

Christ is risen! Alleluia! Christ is risen! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Christ is alive! Let Christians sing.

The cross stands empty to the sky. Let streets and homes with praises ring.

Love, drowned in death, shall never die.

Christ is alive! No longer bound to distant years in Palestine,

But saving, healing, here and now and touching ev’ry place and time.

In ev’ry insult, rift and war, where color, scorn or wealth divide,

Christ suffers still yet loves the more, and lives, where even hope has died.

Women and men, in age and youth, can feel the Spirit, hear the call,

And find the way, the life, the truth, revealed in Jesus, freed for all.

Christ is alive, and comes to bring good news, good news to this and ev’ry age,

Till earth and sky and ocean ring with joy, with justice, love, and praise.

Scripture Readings

Acts 10:34–43 So Peter opened his mouth and said: “Truly I understand that God shows no par-tiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is accepta-ble to him. As for the word that he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all), you yourselves know what happened throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism that John pro-claimed: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. And we are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree, but God raised him on the third day and made him to appear, not to all the people but to us who had been chosen by God as witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead. To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives for-giveness of sins through his name.”

Colossians 3:1–4 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

Matthew 28:1–10 Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magda-lene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earth-quake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and be-hold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”
