What is your attitude towards difference?
Think of a homeless man. Please answer agree or disagree to the following questions.
1. Homeless people are responsible for being homeless. It’s their choice. They have morally questionable character.
2. Homeless people are a valuable, indispensable part of society. We need to celebrate their unique contribution.
3. Homeless people can’t help being homeless; we should pity them for their hard situation.
4. I need to fight for the rights of homeless people.5. Being homeless takes strength, and I admire people who make it on the
streets.6. There will always be homeless people in our country. We should just let
them be and get on with our business.7. People shouldn’t be so cruel to homeless people. It’s hard being
homeless.8. Homeless people add valuable diversity to our world.

Today’s Lit Circle Challenge1) Determine where your assigned characters fall on the Riddle
Scale.2) Provide at least three quotes that support your claim.3) Create two visual aids, one for each character. Visual aids
can be a drawing, an advertisement, a cartoon strip, Power Point slide – be creative.
4) Present your findings to the class. Everyone shares something.
5) Presentation = 25 Listening and Speaking Points.6) Presentations begin Thursday after the Reading Quiz.
An “A” Presentation Everyone presents information (remember Island
Maps?) confidently and authoritatively. All claims are rooted in textual evidence (reference
specific quotes and page numbers to enhance believability).
Presentations follow the claim-context-evidence-commentary structure. Do in speaking what you do in writing.
All members establish a strong, compelling ethos through appropriate body language, eye contact, preparation, volume, use of academic language, etc.
Roles Discussion Director – Provide leadership and direction for
group so that everyone is helping to complete the task Time Keeper – Oversee your group’s use of time. Make
sure visual aids and presentation are ready to go by the end of the period
Materials Manager – Get markers and anything you need to create your visual aids; please put materials back at the end of the period! Thanks.
Correspondent/Recorder– Ask Ms. Wu clarifying questions; get a white board, record ideas, brainstorms.
