Charters

Charters are an

important way

to move the Award

forward.

2

School Rules - Traditional model

Rules for children devised by adults

Consequences for children who break the rules

Positive Behaviour/Outcomes

3

What are typical school rules?

• Don’t disrupt lessons, listen to the teacher.

• Don’t be aggressive to other people.

• Keep school clean / put litter in bins.

• Let people have their say / voice their opinions.

These school rules have clear links to children's rights and help to

ensure all students can enjoy their rights e.g. to education (28), to

achieve their potential (29), to be safe (19), to be healthy (24), to

be listened to (12).

If so, why don’t we make it clearer and easier for everyone to

understand this link?

language which refers to rights and

positive actions rather than rules.
