Jerry Hensler was first introduced to shooting when his dad gave him a 22 at about age 11. Living in a rural area, he and his dad were able to practice often, so Jerry developed an interest in shooting at an early age.

Jerry’s home range is the Boerne Shooting Club in Boerne, Texas, where he is the current Match Director. Jerry enjoys shooting with his wife, Josefina, who is also an avid shooter.

Jerry loves the challenge of trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t. He attributes some of his shooting accomplishments to his friend and mentor, Ed Shilen.

Jerry’s other hobbies include building model trains, as well heading to the casino and sitting in on a poker game or two.

Winning hasn’t been a priority over his past 20 years of competing. But, he admits, “it’s nice when it happens!” Winning the 2020 Area 1 Un-limited Tournament and his first national cham-pionship in short range centerfire benchrest were two of his greatest accomplishments.

2020 AREA 1 Tournament The 2020 Area 1 Tournament was held at the Central Texas Rifle and Pistol Club in Waco, Texas on October 10.

AREA 1 UNLIMITED TOP 3First place in the Unlimited Class went to Jerry Hensler, shooting a 2216.67 agg. In second place was Junior shooter, Maddisyn Reed with a 2179.17 agg, and third went to Jerry Stiller with a 2129.17.

AREA 1 FACTORY TOP 3Nash Brown won the Sporter Class with a 2158.33 agg. In second place was David Garrett with a 2018.33 and third went to Jose Luis Yanez with a 1969.17.

Mary Sherrill Memorial Tournament Held The 2nd Annual Mary Sherrill Memorial Tournament held September 27th at the Wabash Wildlife and Sportsman’s Associ-ation. The tournament is normally held at Marion County Fish and Game, but that range is closed to public due to COVID-19.

Congratulations to Mike Sherrill for pulling off the win in honor of his wife, shooting a 2220.83 agg! Second place went to Larry Parsons with a 2200 agg, and third went to Ed Ledbetter with a 2112.50 agg.

The ARA INDOOR National Tournament will be held at Chickenfoot in March 2021. Make plans to be there!
