The River Reeves Foundation as River would have wanted, has big ambitions.

River along with his bandmates and manager in Viola Beach were destined for the top before their journey was cut tragically short in Sweden last year.

THE RIVER REEVESFOUNDATION

The aims of the foundation are to help young people realise their dreams as actors, writers, artists, directors and musicians through grants, donations and other payments.

We have the ambition to help talented youngsters; many from disadvantaged backgrounds who might otherwise struggle

financially make their way in the music and performing arts world.

We also plan to support local secondary and primary schools by helping enrich and support the music and arts curriculum for many years to come. Here are some of the projects your money will help get off the ground over the next few years:

The Bus Fleet Arriva NW will be providing a double decker bus that we’ll be converting into our first Riv’s Music Bus complete with recording studio and music practice space to be used as a resource to promote music tuition and performance across both primary and secondary schools in Warrington. There will be more buses to follow with the intention of bringing the performing and creative arts to youngsters who might not normally experience the magic that the arts can bring. Look out for Riv’s Theatre Bus, Riv’s Dance Bus and Riv’s Animation Bus over the coming years!

and those more vulnerable to suicide because of circumstances beyond their control.

Bursaries and Grants The RRF will be looking to support young people who might not pursue their dreams because of financial difficulties. Some of the money raised across 2016 and from Rivfest17 will be used to help young people in both further and higher education embark on or continue with studies within the arts that they might otherwise not have been able. From September 2017, a number of youngsters will benefit from the generosity of people supporting the RRF by continuing in education and we will follow their amazing journeys and champion them every step of the way!

Guitar Tuition From September, a pupil in Year 8 from ten different Warrington High Schools will receive guitar tuition for the remainder of their time at school. The schools have chosen pupils with a natural talent who might not normally be in a position to receive such an opportunity. We will follow their progress with interest.

Future in Mind The RRF will be working with schools to help support this crucial secondary schools’ project that ensures all Warrington schools are able to do the very best in looking after the emotional wellbeing of everyone. Specialist staff will work with those in our communities who might be struggling with bereavement, self-harm issues

We have ambitious plans to work with the TCAT schools and provide new experiences and opportunities for young people across the town. Coldplay are excited about these plans so watch this space!

Culture bid by helping promote and broaden the cultural offer for the young people of Warrington. In partnership with LiveWire, Warrington Voluntary Action and English Half Marathon we are keen to see The Warrington Festival grow. We see the additional involvement of schools as an integral part of this growth and by working closely with organisations such as TCAT we will work passionately to strengthen these links.

MEET RIVER

River was born on 14th December 1996. His mum, Miranda Reeves brought him his first guitar at the age of 6. Over the next 13 years he never really put it down! River was a happy, cool, laid back dude who loved to giggle and if you got close to him, he ran deep!

River had a passion for acting as well as music and was due to start at The Arden School of

Theatre in Manchester. It was then that his chance to

join Viola Beach came along. In 2015, River joined and

became best mates with the members of Viola Beach and their very quick ascent to the heights of the music industry began. Their dream was tragically not to be.

He is loved and greatly missed by so many.

RIVFEST 16

Everyone involved with The River Reeves Foundation worked miracles last year to pull off our first festival with less than two weeks preparation!

Coldplay, The Vaccines and Billy Bragg sent video messages of support and all those that

loved River and we’re proud of everything that he had achieved in his short life, came together for a magical day of music and celebration!

RIVER REEVESFOUNDATION FUNDRAISING

Our most successful fundraiser last year was Riv’s Riders 2016. Below is the story of the epic journey. Maybe one day you’ll join us on a future Riv’s Rider Challenge!

River’s older sister Stella Judson had the idea for the Riv’s Riders challenge back in April 2016. Stella decided shewanted to do something big in River’s name that she could channel energy into and have as a positive focus.

The River Reeves Foundation was in the process of being

launched so it had the potential to give the fund a greatkick-start.

It was also important that Penzance, where River lived with his mum and siblings in the years before moving to Warrington, be part of the idea. It was his second home after he moved and he visited his many family and friends regularly.

The cycling idea formed from there. Penzance to Warrington on a bike is 410 miles. Taking in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset,

Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire and Cheshire.

Stella and her husband Mark, decided on 5.5 days in total (Monday to Saturday), giving us an average of 75 miles per day and a total climb of 22,000ft!

The Riv’s Riders core team ended up being 11 family and friends, with additional part-riders and a fantastic relay team of support drivers, including Bily Joe, the touring River Reeves Foundation caravan and press office.

There were certainly highs

and lows along the way. The group laughed and cried and were more tired than they had ever been in their lives.

Riv’s Riders raised a net total of £14,599 for the River Reeves Foundation and the Viola Beach and Craig Tarry Memorial Fund.

Considering the initial target of £5,000 this was extraordinary and very overwhelming.

The challenge is something none of the team will ever forget. It brought them together on an epic adventure.

Stella told an emotional home-coming crowd in Warrington:

‘River was with us all the way and I know he’s so proud of what we achieved. It won’t be the last Riv’s Riders challenge – so bring it on!’
