Down Memory Lane - Eileen Mellet Eileen had a happy childhood growing up with
her parents on a farm in Tulla Co. Clare. Her
siblings included Paddy, Jim, Tom, Mary,
Nuala, John and Sheila. Eileen recalls milking
the cows, a dog called Floss, picking potatoes
- she loved the old farmhouse and country
life. She remembers great sing-songs in the
evenings accompanied by the piano and
fiddle.
Eileen with her parents, brothers/sisters.
Eileen loved to perform and would regularly
do a jig. She attended boarding school and
completed her Leaving Cert in Seamount
College in Kinvara. She recalls getting in to
lots of trouble with girlfriend Enda Dawson.
Eileen went on to train in Hotel Management
in the Old Ground Hotel in Ennis. Mark
Mellet used to come to the hotel for tea.
Love quickly blossomed and they were later
married in Tulla and had their reception in
Ennis.
Mark owned a garage in Nenagh and they
lived there for many happy years.
Eileen/Mark enjoying a dress dance.
Her hobbies included Irish music, step
dancing, golf, bridge and walking in the
country. They enjoyed holidays to Salthill,
Carraroe and Westport. Later when the boys
were grown up they enjoyed many holidays
to the Canary Islands with their friends and
to the U.S. to visit their son Jarlath.
Eileen’s three sons - Mark, Eoin and Jarleth
Unfortunately Eileen lost
her beloved husband
Mark last year. She bears
her loss with courage and
dignity.
Eileen loves music and sings with the Voices
of Riverdale Choir. She gives her opinion
with gusto and continues to leave a little
sparkle wherever she goes.
