Scope of Their Work

To guide renewal of the Practical and Applied Arts area of study at the secondary level in English and French by making recommendations while considering:

• What should we offer?

• What should we not offer?

• Where are the gaps?

• Should the structure and organization of PAA change? If so, how?

Other Recommendations• Work study modules can remain as optional for

secondary survey courses.

• It is acceptable to repeat safety modules in all levels of a curricula where safety is of utmost importance.

• A common core apprenticeship module should be developed for all PAA curricula that are in the designated trades.

• “Under-represented populations in the trades” (e.g., First Nations and Métis, newcomers, males, females) could be highlighted either in a separate module or with indicators in the common apprenticeship module. Both options were discussed.

Other Recommendations

• A common entrepreneurship/business ownership module could be developed and offered as optional in many PAA curricula.

• The appropriateness of modules for middle level from each curriculum can be part of the initial discussions with sub-committees and writers as more curricula are renewed/developed. Not all PAA curricula are recommended for use in middle level PAA courses.
