A Message From Fr. Tony:
There have been many things going on lately and I have to say that it feels like I have been busier during our stay at home order than I was before, and even busier as we move into the Green Phase and our churches are opening up; so it brings me great joy that we have finally reached a point where we will slowly begin to gather together once more as the Body of Christ. If you know of someone who is not able to return to Mass and would like to receive a bulletin via mail, please call the Parish Office with their name and address. We will be happy to mail them a weekly bulletin. I am happy to say that each of our parishes have met their DLA goals. I am thankful to everyone for their generosity during the pandemic. Our collections have been down, then up, then down, then up, as we have all adjusted our stewardship to mail-in and online giving. There have been many things that have happened and I want to give you an update on each of our parishes. So I encourage you to go to your home parish column in this week’s bulletin for the rest of my article under the title, While You Were Gone…

News For Our Parishes
Recommencing In-Person Worship: A Message From Father Tony As we begin to gather together for the celebration of Mass, I want to take a moment to remind everyone of a few important things. First and foremost is that Bishop Malesic has dispensed individuals from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays, so if you are older, have underlying health conditions, have a cough of any sort, are feeling sick, or are uncomfortable gathering together in person, you are encouraged to stay home. We will be continuing to stream Sunday Mass on Facebook and YouTube, as well as broadcasting Sunday Mass on WMBS Radio at 3:00 PM. If all goes as planned you will also be able to tune in every Sunday on Atlantic Broadband Channel 77 at 10:00 AM starting June 7th. When you do decide to come to any of our Churches, please know things will be a little different. The church doors will be opened 30 minutes before Mass, and you are asked to use the main doors of the church. When you enter the church you will be greeted by a Hospitality Minister. These ministers are made up of Ushers and Volunteers from our parishes to ensure we maintain a safe worshiping environment for all, and they will all be wearing name tags so they can be easily identified. The Hospitality Minister will open the door and remind everyone that a face covering is required and social distancing will be practiced. Do not panic if you forget your face covering, we have a supply of masks at all of our churches in case you leave yours in your car. You will also notice that hand sanitizer has been placed near all entrances of our churches and you are encourage to use as needed. There will not be Holy Water in the fonts, but you still may make the sign of the cross to remember that you have been baptized into Christ. Once in the church, a Hospitality Minister will direct you to your seat. You will see that every other pew has been roped off, and you will not be able to choose where you sit so that we can ensure 6 feet social distancing. I know this can be hard for some to swallow. I feel your pain - I still miss my designated pew in our churches that I haven’t been able to use in a decade. Once in your seat, you will remain there until end of Mass. Please be aware, that we will be allowing approximately 25% capacity inside the church. Members of the same household may sit together. If you arrive once we have met this capacity you will be told in these or similar words that unfortunately, because of social distancing guidelines, the Church is at capacity, and we are not able to allow anyone else into the building. You will be told where and when the next Mass in Uniontown will be. There will be some changes in the way we celebrate at Mass. At the Sign of Peace we will turn to the person next to us and offer a reverent bow. There will only be singing during the Gospel Acclamation, The Holy, Holy, the Mystery of Faith, and the Great Amen. The Gloria and the Psalm will be recited, and all other musical hymns will be instrumental. There will not be an offertory procession. Your offertory envelope can be placed in the collection baskets when you come for Holy Communion. They will be placed in a stationary location in the front of the church. Communion will be distributed outside of Mass. After the Prayer after Communion, the concluding blessing and the dismissal, the priest will remain in the sanctuary and the congregation will be seated or may kneel if able. At the chair, the priest will remove his chasuble, put on a face covering and use hand sanitizer. Vested in an alb and stole, the priest will retrieve the newly- consecrated hosts from the tabernacle and return to the Altar. The priest and other minister will proceed to the place prepared for distribution of Holy Communion. Each will stand next to a table with a corporal and hand sanitizer in order to distribute Holy Communion. Hospitality ministers will be directing pews one at a time to ensure social distancing. When you are in line, please remain about 6 feet from the person in front of you, about every other pew. Face coverings must be worn while in the communion procession. When you are next in line to receive communion, staying 6 feet from the one receiving Holy Communion, you should remove any face coverings or gloves before coming forward for Holy Communion. You are being encouraged to receive Holy Communion in the hand. You will then step to the side about 6 feet from the priest or minister and reverently consume the body of Christ and then either exit the Church or return to your pew to offer a brief prayer of thanksgiving. If the priest or minister senses that their fingers have touched the communicant, or if the communicant chooses to receive on the tongue, they will pause and place the ciborium on the corporal, and use hand sanitizer. Please know that we will begin cleaning the church immediately after the ciborium containing the Body of Christ is returned to the tabernacle. Those who have volunteered to assist in the cleaning/sanitizing of the church may return to their pew until the distribution of Holy Communion is finished and the ciborium containing the Body of Christ is returned to the tabernacle. If you will not be receiving Holy Communion, you are asked to follow the Communion line to exit the church, or when you have reached the priest or minister to ask for a blessing. A restroom will be accessible in case of emergency. Please note that in churches with more than one restroom, only one will be accessible, please see a Hospitality Minister for direction. This is so we are able to clean and sanitize the restroom between Masses. I know that these items are something that we are not used to, so I ask you to take on the Heart of the Lord Jesus Christ and follow His example of Patience, Understanding and Ultimate Love. God Bless, Fr. Tony

At St Mary, some of the roof shingles on the main church roof blew off a few weeks ago and have been replaced. Our insurance covered the majority of the cost. The main Altar has been switched with the former main Altar so that the tabernacle Altar and the main Altar now match. And, we currently have $35,800.00 saved up for sealing the outside of the church building. Since we have reached our DLA Goal, any gifts we receive from this point forward will go toward this project. God Bless, Fr. Tony
At St Therese, we have been working on the drainage of our parking lots and are about ready to proceed to schedule the repaving. Since we have reached our DLA Goal, any gifts we receive from this point forward will go toward this project. We are currently installing a brand new video system in our church. With any luck it should be up and running this weekend, June 6th and 7th, so that we can continue to stream Mass on Facebook, YouTube, Channel 77 and broadcast on WMBS Radio. God Bless, Fr. Tony
S S is offered to the family of Mary Strcula. May perpetual light shine upon her and the souls of all the faithful departed.
ON A SUMMER’S DAY Rest is not idleness, and to lie some mes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of me. — John Lubbock
A Vocation Message From David Slusarick Hello all! My name is David Slusarick, lifelong parishioner of Saint Therese and current seminarian for the Diocese of Greensburg. Thank you to everyone who has been so generous in supporting and praying for my journey. This week, Father Tony asked me to share a little about my discernment of a call to the priesthood. Unlike some of my fellow seminarians, who, as young children, felt the early stirrings of a vocation when they "played church" and pretended to celebrate Mass, I don't remember thinking of the priesthood at all until later elementary school or even middle school when I was an altar server. I would sit in the priest's chair after Mass and look out at the empty pews, wondering what it would be like to be a pastor. Later, because of my eventual involvement as a lector, cantor, and leader in high school youth ministry, I suppose some folks began to see something in me that I didn't fully see myself, and they remarked that I could make a good candidate for the priesthood.
However, I never gave it serious consideration until early 2012, a little less than a year after I had concluded six years of study at West Virginia University, where I earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees. I was between jobs and experiencing a significant struggle with depression, and I wondered if perhaps God wanted me to do something different with my life. Ultimately, however, I wanted to be sure I would be entering seminary for the right reasons and not because I was running away from my troubles. I soon started a different job and began dating. The experiences I had and the mistakes I made, both personally and professionally, expanded my worldview and taught me important lessons. My position as District Executive with the Boy Scouts of America, which I held from 2014 to 2018, truly felt like a ministry in that I was devoting so much of my life toward helping our volunteers fund, execute, and grow a worthwhile program for young people. Despite my joy and sense of purpose in my work, my soul still yearned for something different. On Holy Thursday, when the priest imitated Jesus in washing the feet of the people, I saw a reflection of what I wanted to do: to lay down my life more fully for others. When Father Tyler Bandura invited me to a dinner for guys who were at different stages of discerning a call to the priesthood, I accepted without much hesitation. Shortly after that meal, I began participating in the diocese's Melchizedek Project, where alongside these same men, I read sections of Father Brett A. Brannen's excellent book about discernment, seminary, and the priesthood: "To Save A Thousand Souls." The content of the book, and the interaction with guys with whom I discovered I had some common ground, helped me to have an understanding of the priesthood and the fact that God calls diverse people from all walks of life to serve Him and his people in this capacity. My volunteer work with hospice patients, in which I felt I was able to bring Christ to those in the end-stages of a terminal illness, helped to reinforce, in a personal way, that God could work through a sinner like me. Still, I had a hard time giving up my professional role that I loved so much. My spiritual director, Sister Christine Kiley, who was asked by Father Bandura to help guide me, especially in my walk with the Lord, helped me to "let go." She acknowledged that it was not easy to take a decisive step toward the seminary; yet she reminded me: "God never said it would be easy, but He did say 'I am with you.'" While I hadn't received what I felt was a clear-cut sign that I should enter seminary, a friend helped me to realize that the persistence of "the priesthood question" within my heart during both happy times and uncertain times, was a sign in itself. I also came to understand that entering seminary does not equate to a guarantee that one's journey will ultimately lead to priestly ordination; seminary is an environment where discernment continues in a more intense, focused way. Also, entering seminary does not necessarily mean that one's attraction to being a husband and father goes away; rather, you are giving up one good in favor of another. I'm blessed to say that upon beginning my seminary studies at Saint Mark Seminary and Gannon University in Erie, where I spent the last two years, I felt a deep sense of peace that I was where I needed to be. I am thankful for the human, intellectual, pastoral and spiritual formation of seminary... for an atmosphere where I can focus on growing in love and knowledge of the Lord and betterment of myself for the good of humanity. One particularly beautiful part of seminary formation is the apostolic placements and other opportunities to serve: I have had the opportunity to minister to adults with intellectual disabilities, hospital patients, individuals in recovery, the elderly, and the rural and urban poor. If you or someone you know has any degree of openness to a vocation to the priesthood or religious life, I would be happy to chat with you, and/or to connect you with local resources. I will be beginning major seminary at Saint Charles Borromeo in Wynnewood (Philadelphia area) this fall, but will still be a text, phone call, or e-mail away: (724) 208-1623 / [email protected]. While each of us is called to the particular vocation of marriage, priesthood, religious life, or chaste single life, every one of us is called to holiness. We all fall short at times, but may we never stop striving for this holiness and realize that God equips all of us with the grace to do extraordinary things for His kingdom.
