WelcomeWelcome to the first issue of the Rook in 2013.As we shake off the shackles of what seems to have been a long and chilly winter, we’ve got plenty to put a spring in your step.

As well as all our infinitely popular labels such as Hugo Boss, Armani Jeans and Ralph Lauren we are delighted to bring Versace Collection to Bawtry for the first time this season. Gentlemen can enjoy the classically sleek designs from Versace epitomising subtle and understated style, whilst the ladies can enjoy a little more flamboyance from this well respected and much coveted brand.

And, because you liked our Armani Collezione range last year, you’ll be pleased to hear that we’ve extended the collections for men and women this season giving you even greater choice.

As well as unwrapping our delightful new collections, we teamed up

with local venue Rossington Hall for a photo shoot to showcase just a taste of what we have in store this season. Just check out the amazing images that we captured. We’d just like to take this opportunity to say a big thanks to everyone at Rossington Hall and wish them every success with their ongoing renovations. Thanks too are extended to Adam & Jamie from Blake Models, Sophie Shackshaft and Francesca Hudson Brown.

Behind the scenes, Russell has been wrapping up the amazing 2012 fashion show by delivering the cheque to the University of Sheffield and enjoying the special privilege of witnessing firsthand the amazing work that they do in understanding, diagnosing and treating cancer. Sincere thanks to everyone who helped us raise the money. It just goes to show what a united front can achieve and we look forward to our twenty first fashion show later this year.

We all know what a great place Bawtry is to shop and socialise and what great places there are to eat. The team at Robinsons are huge fans of the ever popular China Rose and as another family business we can empathise with the drive and determination that is required to make it succeed. So, after thirty five years at the helm we wish Carly and Jason every success as they take over the day to day running of the restaurant from the lovely Estelle Johnston.

So, as we look forward to warmer weather, lighter nights and longer days now is the perfect time to give your wardrobe a makeover and free up some space for some enticing purchases from us.

Our 2012 fashion show was once again a great success and together we raised almost £15,000 for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

In 2011 we were delighted to find that the money we from the event was directly contributing to the funding of student, James Hackland, who is undertaking a three year research programme to investigate the cause of a certain type of cancer. It is essential that this is established in order to develop new and effective treatments.

So, it was with great pride that Russ visited Professor Andrews and James at the University of Sheffield to present them with the cheque. Whilst there he enjoyed a tour of the unit and chatted with them about the vital research work that they are doing.

“I am immensely grateful for the financial support that Robinsons and Yorkshire Cancer Research has provided me with. It has allowed me to carry out an exciting and productive first year of research that will be the foundation

of my PhD,” said James. “It is my hope that the work I have done and will continue to do for the next two to three years will have a positive impact on the understanding and treatment of Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) and the way in which it develops.”

“Seeing where our fashion show monies are being utilised was great and drives home just how very important it is that we continue to fund raise,” said Russell. “The work that Professor Andrews and his team do is pivotal to fighting cancer and we look forward to a long and worthwhile partnership with them.”

2013 will be the twenty first anniversary of our fashion show. Let’s make it extra special!

China Rose

Sometimes things just have to change and this spring one of Bawtry’s most loved and longest established restaurants will see the start of a new and exciting era.

The Chine Rose, which has been in Bawtry for over thirty five years and attracts customers from far and wide, will see the much loved Estelle Johnston relinquish her grip on the reins - albeit it only slightly - allowing husband and wife team Carly Hui and Jason Kwan to become more involved in the day-to-day running of the restaurant.

Estelle, who celebrated her 70th birthday at the end of last year, will still remain an intrinsic part of the business and of the Bawtry business community but will undoubtedly miss her intrinsic involvement at the restaurant.

“Robinsons has enjoyed a long association with Estelle and her family especially as it has been home to our annual fashion show since Tony Robinson launched the event twenty years ago,” said Russell Jones, Robinsons. “Family business-es are all about working together as a team and preparing the next generation to be able to continue and develop the business. Carly and Jason will do a superb job maintaining the high standards and taking the China Rose into a new and exciting phase, building on the solid foundations that Estelle, and her husband Louis, have established.”

The China Rose is famed for its delicious Cantonese cuisine and welcoming ambience.
