  • Back when Rotary became involved with polio, most people thought volunteer organizations were about tackling projects down the street or across town not across the world. Rotary changed all that, and in the process, you reminded us that there is no human problem so daunting that it cant be overcome by people.

Does this have anything to do with membership recruitment and retention?

Although not the only source of International Service, what drives it? T R F

Basic Classes may need a little more explanation here, while you might be able to run through quickly with the Advanced classes. Remember, this is just an overview. They should have read some of this in their self-study assignments

Why should a club support both Annual Programs and Permanent Funds?

The Annual Programs Fund addresses the need to support the day-to-day functioning of the wide range of programs.

Restricted Giving goes directly to the project or program to where the donated money is restricted. Polio Plus is our premier Restricted Giving program.

The Permanent Fund ensures that The Rotary Foundation programs continue well into the future.

Explain that the interest on the three year invested funds pays the Foundations operating costs.

Point out the significant word - available -. Why do we say that 100% of the funds are available for distribution?

Answer: Rotarians, clubs, and districts have to apply for it.

Paul Harris Credit are PHF credits important WHY?How can you use them to improve giving to TRF?

**Fifty percent (50%) of all contributions come back to our district through District Designated Funds (DDF) in three years to spend on educational and humanitarian programs chosen by us; even grants that may be used for projects in our local community. Through the SHARE system, our contributions to the Foundation help both the locally and globally. The funds you had available this year are the direct result of your efforts in 2004-05.

    WHAT IS EREY

HOW DO YOU GET RELUCTANT ROTARIANS TO CONTRIBUTE**Only 4 countries endemic

    PakistanAfghanistanIndiaNigeria

    Easily remembered as P.A.I.N

To date the financial contributions of Rotary have been over $650 million.

Make no mistake we are committed to eradicating polio and we wil succeed!*Tremendous progress has been made in the Global Polio Eradication efforts. In 1988 more than 1000 polio cases per day were reported in more than 125 countries.

The poliovirus has been cornered in only 4 countries that are now considered polio-endemic. (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nigeria).*It doesnt take one extraordinary and special person to change the world

it starts with all of us here, in this district and in the world to come together, to see the challenge that lies before us, and to collaborate and contribute to make a difference.

You are Rotary, and all of you are the heart and soul of Rotary. Rotary is better and stronger because you are a part of it, and the world needs all of you. *Your annual gift can provide a two month supply of delicious Rum Cake or Guava Duff..*Or, a two month supply of food for a hungry child.

*One hundred dollars buys enough of your favorite drink for your vision to blur..*.Or eyeglasses for seven kids with visual impairments..*Or to help build an emergency fresh water system for a community on Grand Bahama Island.*A few hands of Texas Hold em*or an opportunity to help change the world. Can you put a price tag on Peace? What will you give to achieve it?

Not every Rotarian has the opportunity to travel to the parts of the world where Rotarys help can do the most good. Through our Foundation, every Rotarian can be a part of the projects in the poorest regions of the world, where every vaccination, every box of medical supplies, and every mosquito net makes such a tremendous difference.

With your continuing support, Rotarians around the world can continue to make strides toward world peace and understanding. Our Every Rotarian, Every Year effort comes with large numbers and lofty goals, but the real story of our efforts, as Ive tried to illustrate today, is the story behind these figures:*For less than your daily cup of coffee think what you are accomplishing.

What does Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) mean? It means encouraging all of our members to get involved in a club or district project. It means supporting The Rotary Foundation with a contribution to the Annual Programs Fundevery year.It means you becoming a Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member. It means our collective commitment to help make our world better.

Dont think of it as Every Rotarian, Every Year. Rather think of it as:Every child everywhere should have the chance to learn to read and writeEvery community everywhere deserves clean drinking water and foodEveryone everywhere deserves to live in a world of peace (or deserves to live in a world free of Polio)*Through your Foundation, Rotarians SHARE their resources with fellow Rotarians around the world and we SHARE Rotary with the world through Group Study Exchanges, Scholarships, and humanitarian grants.Every Rotarian is invited to SHARE Rotary with the world share our vision, our wealth and our Rotary experience with the world.

*I want close with a quote from Bill Gates, Sr. who oversees the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Sometimes its good for all of us to be reminded just how special Rotary is. (read quote aloud.)

Thanks for your time, attention and support. Once again. Imagine our world, not as it is, but what it could be.
