Church Directory Photo Day

Sunday, September 11, 2016 9:30-10:45 AM: Fellowship Hall

12:15-1:15 PM: Chapel Hallway

If you are a church member or friend of the church but your pic-ture is not in our directory, please have your photo taken this coming Sunday. You do not need an appointment—just show up! You can also update your existing photo and/or information. Our directory is available online and as a phone app, and these “photo days” are how we keep it up-to-date!

Mission Morganton Mission Morganton will be held on Saturday, September 24, beginning at 8:00 AM on the First Baptist Church

lawn. Sign-up sheets are available at church. You may also donate empty cans, pillowcase fabric, pet supplies, children’s clothing, pregnancy care items, old bat-teries (small enough to fit in one hand), CFL light bulbs, old phones, and elec-tronics. Donation bins will be at church through September 20, but donations may also be brought to First Baptist Church on the day of the event.

A House of Refuge Request! The House of Refuge serves homeless men breakfast and dinner seven days a week and has been blessed with breads, vegetables, and desserts from BUCM, but they have requested pork chops, chicken, turkey, ham, and hamburger. If you would like to donate, bring your well-wrapped packages of meat to the church kitchen on September 21. Charles and Nanette Marranca will deliver the donations to the shelter that evening. For more information, call 850-509-0056 (Nanette) or 850-322-5227 (Charles). Tell friends in other churches and mem-bers of our congregation about this need. If you would prefer to give money, you may mail or deliver it to The House of Refuge manager, Bryan Benfield, 106 Murphy Street, Morganton, NC; call 303-4661 before you go.

Interim Minister Selection Committee The Session has elected Chris Bergelin, Louis Vinay, and Jean VanNoppen to serve on the Interim Minister Selec-tion Committee. These three members will work with General Presbyter Rev. Bobbi White to find an interim minister. This committee will present their selection to Session, which then votes and extends the offer to the minister. Please keep this group and the Session in your prayers.

Operation Christmas Child Begins Sunday, September 18 Since 1993, more than 100 million shoeboxes have been delivered to children in over 150 countries. The annual drive to provide gift-filled shoeboxes to needy children throughout the world begins Sunday, September 18. Shoeboxes, with instructions, will be outside the fellowship hall for you to take home, fill from an approved list of items, and return to the church office for the collection week of November 14-21. Last year we collected 100 boxes—our goal this year is 110 boxes! Watch our progress on the "Going and Growing" chart outside the church office. This is an opportunity for us, who have been blessed by

God, to reach children with the true meaning of Christmas—the birth of Jesus—and to spread the gospel through a box filled with love. Contact Tom Kilgore (438-0844, [email protected]) with any questions.

Shepherd Program Organizational Meeting A reminder to all '16-'17 Shepherds: There will be a Shepherd Program Organizational Meeting on September 18 at 5:00 PM in room 102. We will get organized and inspired to continue our work of ensuring that all members receive the love, care, and concern of the church. Please RSVP to the church office. Thanks!

Collect Labels for Local Schools If you do not already collect box tops for education, labels for education, and Sunny D and/or Fruit-2-0 labels, please start collecting and bring these to church to help local schools. Pastor Adam will collect labels in the bin on his door during the school year.

Neighborhood Presbygreeter Meeting We will have a short meeting for Neighborhood Presbygreeters on Sunday, September 18, follow-ing worship in room 200. Please contact Pastor Adam if you are interested in serving as a Neighborhood Presbygreeter. Job description: “The Presbygreeter should welcome newly-arrived neighbors and let them know that First Presbyterian would be delighted to welcome them as visitors or members. If the new arrival indicates interest, the next step is to invite them to Sunday worship, a special event, Wednesday night supper, youth fellowship, etc. A report of the visit should be made to the Good News Committee Chair or the church office so that a follow-up contact might be made.”

First Presbyterian is a connectional church; let us therefore pray for other congregations within our Presbytery:
