• ----------------------------------------- Close of Probation Passes Unnoticed

• “But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.” 1 Thess. 5:1, 2

• The righteous and the wicked will still be living upon the earth in their mortal state---

• --men will be planting and building, eating and drinking, all unconscious that the final, irrevocable decision has been pronounced in the sanctuary above. Before the flood, after Noah entered the ark, God shut him in, and shut the ungodly out; but for seven days the people, knowing not that their doom was fixed, continued their careless, pleasure-loving life, and mocked the warnings of impending judgment.

The Sanctuary• Then those who have

despised God's word, those who have lightly esteemed it, shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east; they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord and shall not find it. . . . The ministers of God will have done their last work, offered their last prayers, shed their last bitter tear for a rebellious church and an ungodly people.

• Silently, unnoticed as the midnight thief, will come the decisive hour which marks the fixing of every man's destiny, the final withdrawal of mercy's offer to guilty men. The people are fast being lulled to a fatal security, to be awakened only by the outpouring of the wrath of God. The Lord in judgment will at the close of time walk through the earth, the fearful plagues will begin to fall.

The Sanctuary• The sun is fast westering.

Can it be that it will set and thou wilt not know "the things which belong unto thy peace!"? Must the irrevocable sentence be passed, "But now they are hid from thine eyes"

(Luke 19:42)? Revelation 22:11 Amos 8:11 • From Maranatha - Page 264

• The eye of Jesus, looking down the ages, was fixed upon our time when He said, "If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace!" It is still thy day, O church of God, whom He has made the depositary of His law. This day of trust and probation is drawing to a close.

The Sanctuary• The Correct Understanding

of the Sanctuary, By EG White quote.

• Psa 77:13 Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?

• “The subject of the sanctuary and the investigative judgment should be clearly understood by the people of God.” Great Controversy, Ellen G White “Facing Life’s Record”

The SanctuaryTHEY PRAYED, HE FELT ASSURED THAT LIGHT WOULD COME.A LITTLE LATER, AS EDSON AND A FRIEND WERE CROSSING A CORNFIELD TO VISIT FELLOW ADVENTISTS, IT SEEMED AS IF A HAND TOUCHED HIS SHOULDER. HE LOOKED UP TO SEE - AS IF IN A VISION - THE HEAVENS OPENED, AND CHRIST IN THE HEAVENLY SANCTUARY ENTERING INTO THE MOST HOLY PLACE, THERE TO BEGIN A WORK OF MINISTRY IN BEHALF OF HIS PEOPLE, INSTEAD OF COMING FORTH FROM THE MOST HOLY PLACE TO CLEANSE THE WORLD WITH FIRE, AS THEY HAD TAUGHT. CAREFUL BIBLE STUDY BY HIRAM EDSON; F. B. HAHN, A PHYSICIAN; AND O. R. L. CROZIER, A SCHOOLTEACHER, SOON REVEALED THAT THE SANCTUARY TO BE CLEANSED AT THE END OF THE 2300 YEARS WAS NOT THE EARTH BUT THE TABERNACLE IN HEAVEN, WITH CHRIST MINISTERING IN OUR BEHALF IN THE MOST HOLY PLACE.

HIRAM EDSON, ONE OF THIS GROUP, LIVED IN CENTRAL NEW YORK STATE AT PORT GIBSON. HE WAS THE LEADER OF THE ADVENTISTS IN THAT AREA. THE BELIEVERS MET IN HIS HOME ON OCTOBER 22, 1844, TO AWAIT THE COMING OF THE LORD. CALMLY AND PATIENTLY THEY AWAITED THE GREAT EVENT. BUT AS THE HOUR OF MIDNIGHT CAME AND THEY REALIZED THE DAY OF EXPECTATION HAD PASSED, IT BECAME CLEAR THAT JESUS WOULD NOT COME AS SOON AS THEY HAD THOUGHT. IT WAS A TIME OF BITTER DISAPPOINTMENT. IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS HIRAM EDSON AND A FEW OTHERS WENT OUT TO HIS BARN TO PRAY, AND AS

The SanctuaryThe Altar of Incense. • Incense was to continually burn upon

this altar and its smoke would ascend over the veil into the Most Holy Place.

The Seven-Branched Candlestick. • This was to shed light continually in

the Holy Place. The candles were always burning.

The Most Holy Place contained one piece of furniture:• The Ark of the Covenant.

Lay Evg. BC Sono

Page 15: The Sanctuary in The Wilderness

The Sanctuary The Ark of the Covenant. • This piece of furniture was made of

two pieces. The Ark, which is the box, and the Mercy seat, which is the cover. The Mercy seat is where the presence of God dwelt.

Within the Ark were three items: The Ten Commandments, Pot of manna Aaron’s rod. • Manna = the Provision of God• Rod = the Authority of God• Tables = the Demands of God Lay Evg. BC Sono

The Sanctuary• A. How does the earthly

sanctuary help us understand the plan of salvation?

• The earthly sanctuary was established to represent God’s plan of salvation and pointed to the heavenly sanctuary and the ministry of Jesus in heaven

Heb9:22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

It represents Christ’s priestly ministry Sinners and God be reconciled, two goats

lambs were needed, one for Jesus who symbolically died to cleanse the world from sin and the other for the Devil, who when the penitent sinner repents, the sins are transferred to that scapegoat and was not killed but left for abandonment to die symbolically Satan’s punishment for all he did.

understanding the plan of salvation

• By accepting Christ’s intercession for us in heaven

• “The subject of the sanctuary was the key which unlocked the mystery of the disappointment of 1844. It opened to view a complete system of truth, connected and harmonious, showing that God’s hand had directed the great Advent Movement, and revealing present duty as it brought to light the position and work of His people.” (EGW, Great Controversy, p. 423).

The Sanctuary• The priests entered into the

earthly with the blood of an animal as an offering for sin. Christ entered into the heavenly sanctuary by the offering of His own blood. The earthly priests were removed by death; therefore they could not continue long; but Jesus was a priest forever. EW.pg 96

• The veil was lifted, and I looked into the holy of holies and saw that the furniture was the same as in the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary.

• The priest ministered in both apartments of the earthly. He went daily into the first apartment, but entered the most holy only once a year, to cleanse it from the sins which had been conveyed there. I saw that Jesus ministered in both apartments of the heavenly sanctuary. EW.pg 66

The Sanctuary• Lev 16:29 And this shall be a

statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you:

• Lev 16:30 For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD.

• What matters is to vindicate the character of God without reference of reward. That’s what Moses and God agreed upon, whether or not I walk on the street of gold, but reprove that Satan’s claims were never true, the false-accusations that Satan’s made.

• It’s all or nothing, it’s God who’s vindicating His character and not us.

• That is the Most important existence of the SDA church.

The Sanctuary• And in the wisdom of God the particulars of this work were given

us that we might, by looking to them, understand the work of Jesus in the heavenly sanctuary. As Jesus died on Calvary, He cried, “It is finished,” and the veil of the temple was rent in twain, from the top to the bottom. This was to show that the services of the earthly sanctuary were forever finished, and that God would no more meet with the priests in their earthly temple, to accept their sacrifices. The blood of Jesus was then shed, which was to be offered by Himself in the heavenly sanctuary. As the priest entered the most holy once a year to cleanse the earthly sanctuary, so Jesus entered the most holy of the heavenly, at the end of the 2300 days of Daniel 8, in 1844, to make a final atonement for all who could be benefited by His mediation, and thus to cleanse the sanctuary.
