Happy Birthday to All!
Dear Readers,
Sorry my article didn't make the October Scan, but I
was put on hold as there is so much news to be reported
and events coming up in November. I took it with a
grain of salt, so here I am rewriting my October article,
which I wrote in September. I am writing about Helen
Place retiring from the job after 23 years as the Senior
Center Transportation Coordinator. Helen did a fabu-
lous job at that position. Its not easy trying to keep
track of all those mini buses, drivers, senior citizens
and whatever else would pop up during the course of
the day. Enjoy your retirement Helen, as you walk on
the beach in sunny Florida! Thank you!!
This year we are having a wonderful celebration for
our Veterans, on Friday, November 20th at 5pm at
St Robert Parish Hall, located on South Elm St. in Win-
dsor Locks. It’s a free dinner for Veterans and tickets
for guests are $10. It should be a fun evening of food,
music, meeting your old buddies, tell a joke or two.
Seating is limited so sign up today!
Remember to vote on Tuesday November 3rd. Also,
remember our day to give thanks, Thursday, November
26th for all we in America love, either plentiful or
scant. Keep smiling and we’ll smile with you !!

Municipal Agent Notes By John Sullivan
*Special Note: This column from the September Scan was
supposed to be about a ‘free app’ for Veteran’s benefits
however, it printed as a “face app”. It’s worth repeating…
AN APP FOR VETERANS’ BENEFITS
The Veterans Administration has literally billions of
dollars available to pay for a wide array of Veterans’
benefits, however, it is estimated that only 40% of vet-
erans are collecting the benefits they have earned. To
remedy this situation, a new company– Defense Mobile
has come up with free ‘app’ called Milisource which is
available on I Pads and Smart Phones. Brendan Reilly,
CEO of Defense Mobile states the app asks the Veteran
17 questions such as when you served, whether you
have a disability rating, whether you have dependents,
etc. After answering these questions you are directed
to a section entitled “My Benefits”. Out of the 900
benefits on the app, less than one-third are linked to the
VA , Reilly said. The remainder come from states, lo-
calities, and veterans service organizations. It provides
a summary of each benefit and links you to an applica-
tion form to download or email to yourself. For most
of the benefits, there are videos that will explain it. If
further help is needed, go to getsupport.apple.com, or if
Milisource doesn't work, try defensemobile.com Im-
portant: Word is that the VA is quick to reject any VA
forms not filled out to their satisfaction. Therefore, the
veteran should seek help from someone who is familiar
with the VA bureaucracy, and can help him/her com-
plete the forms so as to conform with the VA’s way of
expressing things on paper. Reilly believes there are
many veterans who are missing out on benefits. If you
know of a veteran who might benefit from this infor-
mation, please show him/her this column.
Best regards, John
