How did the Puritans view their faith? How did many of them change their faith?
Puritans
Christians who wanted to purify the Church of England (reform it)
They had the most dynamic Christian force in the American Colonies
They lived strictly by the Bible
When
Puritans first immigrated to America in 1630.
Puritan influence disappeared by the end of the seventeenth century.
The Scarlet letter takes place during the mid seventeenth century.
Where
Puritans arrived in the New World and established the Massachusetts Bay Colony
In this new place they were free to worship as they wanted to
Puritans believed that you had to be in a constant connection with god
They were strict Calvinist followersBelieved that God had a select few for salvationThought that their “faith” was the key to salvation On the sabbath, only reading/learning of scriptures

Why did some Puritans change their faith?
Many started to see flaws in their religion and the Puritan society
Some didn’t like the contradiction between men and women roles in the church
People felt judged because they didn’t they didn’t live as perfectly as expected to be
