What a great time of basking in God’s love these last few weeks. It has been a good journey exploring the height, depth and width of God’s love.

Love offered usually creates a response. The possibilities of responses are endless. Stewardship of lives is one of the many ways we can respond. We want to give each of us an opportunity to consider our stewardship during this year’s emphasis that will kick off on October 17.

I hope you will be present each Sunday as we consider this year’s theme “Try the Tithe” and explore a facet of theme.

Our hope for the stewardship emphasis will be to encourage each other to try the tithe for the month of November.

Falling In LoveFalling In LoveFalling In LoveFalling In Love The title of this section is a bit of a play on words. One, we are “falling” because fall has finally arrived and now we can settle back into our routines of life with school going full force, everyone is done with vacation, and life gets a little more “normal”. Second, we are using the curriculum of the wonderful book we have been using as a church to “Fall Back in Love” with the Church.

At Wednesday night’s UMYF meetings, we are looking at how amazing the love our creator and Lord has for us. If we can truly grasp this concept, we cannot help but fall head over heals in love with Him. And this then begins to transform our lives in ways that our own discipline and efforts could never achieve. We begin to live in the free-dom and joy that having a true loving relationship with our God can provide. So I hope to see you all there each Wednesday night!

Sunday Night Studies (SnS)Sunday Night Studies (SnS)Sunday Night Studies (SnS)Sunday Night Studies (SnS) Our SnS groups are back at it as well! Our Senior High Guys are meeting each Sunday night at 6:00 at the home of Ryan & KK McKenzie where they are looking at differ-ent men of the Bible and how they drew strength and courage from their faith and relationship with the Lord.

The Senior High Girls are meeting each Sunday night at the home of Dena & Brent Irving where they are using a great curriculum that pulls some great Bible lessons from some of our favorite “chick flick” movies.

The Jr. High Guys are meeting every 2nd and 4th Sunday at 5:00 at the home of Jason & Jill Dietze where they are doing a study of the book of Philippians. A great study for young men, encouraging them to be strong and steady in their faith.

The Jr. High Girls are also meeting every 2nd and 4th Sun-day at 5:00 at the home of Jeb & Ginger Brooks where they are doing a study of the book of James. We are very excited to have Taryn Smith and Marissa Walter “peer” teaching this great book to our young girls. This prom-ises to be a great time of growth for all involved.

Wonderful Wednesday Wonderful Wednesday is off to a wonderful start! Our pre-schoolers are discovering our “Great Big God” with fun games, stories, crafts and even science experiments. Our elementary kids are already hard at work (and hard at play) on a Christmas musical entitled “Arrest These Merry Gentlemen.” It’s not too late to join in the fun! Children and parents are welcome every Wednesday from 6:00-7:30pm.

Pumpkin Party The annual fall celebration will be held during Wonderful Wednesday on Oct. 27th. No costumes, please, and bring a friend! Be on the look-out for candy donation boxes as the Pumpkin Party gets closer. We will need a few extra helpers to assist with games during the party. If you are interested in helping, please

contact Adrienne.

Bible Presentation Our annual presentation of Bibles to 3rd graders will be held on October 10th during the 10:45 worship ser-vice. Parents of 3rd graders, please mark your calendars. This is a very special time for the children, when the Word of God is placed in their hands, and for the church, and we don’t want anyone to miss out.

Harvest Festival is a great time of FELLOWSHIP with our church family, CELEBRATION for all God has blessed us with, and plan-ning for the future God has called us to. It is also the largest single fundraiser our church holds each year. As such, there are many opportunities to take part in the big event:

Donations:Donations:Donations:Donations: We will begin accepting donations for the silent and live auctions on Sunday, October 31st. You may choose to make a per-sonal donation, and/or acquire donations from local businesses. If you would like to present a local business with a donation letter when you make your contact, just stop by the church office and pick one up, or contact Steve Lilley. When planning for your donations, remember that no item is too big or too small, and sometimes the most unusual bring in the biggest returns.

SetSetSetSet----up:up:up:up: Starting on November 11th, we will need help setting up. If you can spare even an hour during the 11th-13th it would be a great help. Please talk to Steve if you are able.

Tickets:Tickets:Tickets:Tickets: Another way to help is to sell raffle and dinner tickets to friends, family, and coworkers. This is also a great way to introduce someone to our church…buy them a dinner ticket and invite them to come with you! Tickets will be available starting Sunday, Oct. 17.

Harvest Night:Harvest Night:Harvest Night:Harvest Night: There are a lot of roles that need to be filled for the night of the auction, so don’t assume that if you’ve never helped before there’s no room for you. There is always more to be done! We need people to sell raffle tickets, show live auction items, work the checkout room, take dinner tickets, be greeters, and more. Talk to Steve if you are interested in helping the night of the event.

Publicity:Publicity:Publicity:Publicity: We need help getting the word out to the community! Harvest Festival is not limited to our church family it is a COMMU-NITY WIDE EVENT. We want to invite everyone to this exciting event, and you can help by taking flyers to local businesses, work with local media outlets, and more. If you have publicity experience or just want to help out, please talk to Steve as soon as possible.

Prayer:Prayer:Prayer:Prayer: Please pray for the planning and preparation, for all of the people involved, and for a fruitful Harvest.

You can contact Steve Lilley at [email protected] or by phone at (903) 243-8519.

Thank you!

The 8th annual Back to School Clothing Sale was another success. Our community benefited and many families were helped through the unselfish giving of our church family. Thanks to the many people who donated clothes and thanks to the many people who gave up their Saturday Morning to be there to help with the sale. Almost $1300 was raised and donated to the Meal a Deal Center and the Boys & Girls Club.

Over 5000 pieces of clothing were sold that day which allowed many people to get things that they normally wouldn't be able to afford. Another 7000-8000 items were taken to the League Street Church of Christ Clothing room where even more people will benefit. In this difficult economic time, it is a wonderful thing for a Church to show generousity and love as we did through this event.

A very special and deserving thank you to Larry Willmann for once again providing the hanging rods and Larry Crowson for deliv-ering and picking up the pipes, and hanging racks and for always being willing to help in whatever way he could. Also the church would like to thank the youth for helping as well as the handful of people who gave up their Labor day holiday and many evenings to help sort and fold the many, many, many clothes.

Join us Saturday, October 23, in a 5K walk/run (crawl, if necessary!) to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Passionately Pink for the Cure.

How can you get involved?

• Form a team of 5 friends. (Registration is $75 per team but we already have a sponsor for a church team.)

• Find all the pink attire you have in your house.

• Meet at the Hopkins County Civic Center on October 23rd at 8:00 am for the 5K

• Wear Pink. Have Fun. Fight Breast Cancer.

It’s that simple, fun and powerful! Please contact the church office if you are interested in being part of this fan-tastic event.

It seems we’ve just begun. What would living loved by God look like in our lives? How would they change? What would it mean for the way we “do church”? So if you’d like to continue the conversation and exploration, give Debbie a call at 903-243-3333. Let’s see what God brings together in us and through us.

We’ve been talking about, reflecting on, and learning to live in God’s amazing love for us. As we grow in God’s love, we discover how much more God’s love us. Another way to deeply experience God’s love and grace is on an Emmaus or Chrysalis weekend. These retreats are filled with talks, sto-ries, laughter, tears, and unexpected gifts of grace. If you’d like to know more, call Debbie Riggsby at 903-243-3333.

RRRRUSSELLUSSELLUSSELLUSSELL’’’’SSSS R R R RAMBLINGSAMBLINGSAMBLINGSAMBLINGS Living Loved

We come to the close of our series of considering the incredible, fantastic, astonishing love God has for each person. I offer some practical guidance in the form of a list on how to “Live Loved”. I encourage you to place this list in a prominent place, so it may consistently stir up your heart-felt appreciation of these realities:

• God loves you more than any other human being on this planet ever has or ever will. • There is nothing you can do that will make God love you any more or any less. • God is not disillusioned with you because he had no illusions about you to begin with. • Shame has no role in helping you live in God’s life, it was removed in Christ.

God wants to make God-self known to you daily and teach you how to recognize and follow his voice. Try these steps to make these truths realities in your life.

1. Be bold and ask God to teach you these things. Be specific when you ask, because it helps focus your heart on what God is already doing in you.

2. Salt your mind with scripture. Here are some passages to read over and over again for the remainder of the year until the real-ity becomes clear in your heart.

-Romans 5-8 -Galatians 1-6 -John 13-17 -Ephesians 3:17-20

3. Watch for the fingerprints of God in your life each day. Notice things going on around you, what is being said to you, or things you are reading.

These are pastoral suggestions offered with the caveat there are numerous ways to cultivate God’s love of you in your life. I want nothing more than from the time you wake up till you lay your head on your pillow at night that you feel the amazing, incredible, infinite, stupendous, remarkable, endless, enduring, tremendous love of God.

A special invitation! From the singers of your Sanctuary Choir:

We have just begun rehearsing our Christmas Cantata, 'Night of the Father's Love'. We rehearse it at the beginning of our time together on Wednesday evenings. If you would like to sing with us on December 19th, we would dearly love to have you!

You may come and sing through the Cantata portion and then be out the door by 7 or so. Join us at 6:30 in the choir room. The music is inspiring and beautifully written. Pepper Choplin, one of our all time favorite contemporary composers, brings Advent and the birth of the Christ Child to a time of quiet peace and eager anticipation, all in the same wonderful musical. Please come sing with us! God will certainly bless us with your presence, and it might surprise you to learn how much he will bless you! As the saying goes, 'it's all good!'

The best is yet to come, Carol
