What the Western World said about

    us

12 million people elected Morsi, so he is thefirst elected civilian President in Egypt, anyattempt to overthrow him is not democratic.

In the western advanced countries and indemocracies there are other democratic andcivilized ways of getting rid of an ineffectiveleader

This is a coup d'tat by the military against anelected president.

So how do we justify what happened

The Economist magazinerecently described Mr. Morsiselectoral dictatorship aszombie democracy.

    Such a democracy looks like

the real thing because it haselections, but in truth is nomore than a hollow shellgoing through the motions.

    Withoutdemocraticgovernance, power sharing

and checks and balances onexecutive authority, thewhole exercise amounts tolittle more than a sham.

  • 7/29/2019 The Second, People-Led Revolution

What is democracy? A true democracy should

    emerge during elections and

    grow after elections.

    Elected governments should

    respect the people andin

addition to paying back thepeople, they should also fight

    for more supporters.

    With tolerance and generosity,

the governments shouldpatchup the cracks formed during

    elections and restore national

    unity.

    The origin : direct democracy

Several variants ofdemocracy exist, but there

are two basic forms, both ofwhich concern how the

whole body of all eligiblecitizens executes its will.

One form of democracy isdirect democracy, in whichall eligible citizens have

    direct and activeparticipation in the

    decision making of thegovernment.

    meant also : people

    through the assembly,

and courts of lawcontrolled the entire

    political process and a

    large proportion of

citizens were involvedconstantly in the public

    business.

And that is what we did

32 million people went to the streets and chanted andcalled for the army to come to our rescue

Given the experience of attacks and violence by the MB

and its supporters against peaceful demonstrations and

given also the vocal threats by the MB leaders and

their preachers in a conference held by Morsi two

weeks before the D-day, the people of Egypt sought

out the army and hundreds of thousands went to the

ministry of defense and asked them to protect our

    revolution .
