St. Odilo Parish National Shrine of the Poor Souls

St. Odilo Church is the only parish in the United States dedicated to the Souls in Purgatory. It was founded and sanctioned as the Shrine of the Poor Souls by His Eminence, George Cardinal Mundelein, in 1928, with a special indulgence of 200 days granted upon each visit to the shrine.

This week we begin something new here at St. Odilo.

On Wednesday, October 28 at 6:30 p.m. we will begin our weekly Tridentine Latin Mass and Devotions for the Poor Souls in Purgatory. The order of service will comprise the celebration of the Latin Mass, exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, prayers for the souls in purgatory, Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, recitation of the Divine Praises and closing hymn. Because of the COVID restrictions, everyone who wishes to attend must register for the Wednesday evening services. It is best and easiest to register online at www.saintodilo.org. ♦ For those who have internet access, please register online at

www.saintodilo.org from the previous Thursday at 9:00 a.m. until Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. ♦ For those who do not have internet access, please call 708-484-2161 only

on the previous Monday and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

I hope that these Wednesday evening devotions will become a weekly event here at St. Odilo. After all, we are the only National Shrine of the Poor Souls in the United States. We owe a debt to the souls in purgatory to celebrate the Mass, offer the prayers and gain the indulgences attached to our shrine to assist them to heaven.

ST. ODILO PURGATORIAL SOCIETY If you would like to enroll your deceased relatives and friends in the St. Odilo Purgatorial Society drop your list off in the rectory mailbox, the collection box in church or mail it to the rectory with your donation. The names will be printed in a book remembering our beloved dead which is placed on the Poor Souls Shrine. A special novena is offered at St. Odilo for those enrolled. When filling out the envelope please PRINT all names clearly .
