EN ISO 119252:Reaction to fire for tests –Ignitability of buildingproducts subjected to directimpingement of flame –Part 2: Singleflame sourcetest.

The test is required as part of theEuropean construction productsregulation classification of reactionto fire performance for wall androofing products and floorcoverings. “The Single FlameSource Test” (Ignitability Apparatus)is built in accordance withEN ISO 119252.

Full classification and performancecriteria can be found in a separateFTT document “New European Fire Testing ClassificationEN ISO 119252: Reaction to fire for Construction Products.”

Product ClassificationThe European ConstructionProducts Regulation classificationcriteria for all building products, hasperformance classes from AF.Although other tests are requiredfor assessment, the single flamesource apparatus is needed forqualifying all types of constructionproducts to classes B, C, D and E.

The classification criteria for eachproduct group are shown in thetables below.

The FTT IgnitabilityApparatusEN ISO 119252 is based on theKleinbrenner method fordetermining ignitability of buildingproducts in the vertical orientationby direct small flame impingementunder zero impressed irradiance.

The FTT Ignitability Apparatus issupplied as a complete easytousesystem incorporating safetyfeatures. It has large front and sidedoors for easy access. These areglazed with toughened glass for fullview of the specimen during a test.

Fully Adjustable BurnerAn extensively adjustable burnerassembly, mounted on runnersenables the small premixed flameto be tilted at an angle of 45° to thespecimen and offered to it in onefluid movement.

A fully adjustable specimen supportframe facilitates lateral and verticalmovement of the specimen holderso that the flame can be applied atthe correct position for eithersurface exposure or edge exposure.

Specimen HolderThe specimen holders are capableof housing the specimens up to andincluding 60 mm thick. The FTTignitability apparatus is suppliedwith one specimen holder. Optionalextras: multilayered and loose fillmaterials.
