Dear Parents and Community Members….. I suspect that the glorious weather we have
been experiencing might be chilling off! Over the
next couple of weeks please do ensure your child
comes to school in winter uniform. If you have any
issues regarding uniform that we can help with,
please contact the front office. Some items are
available there and some from Flannagan’s. We also
have second hand items available for purchase
through the canteen.
As a means of rewarding good playground
behaviour we have introduced a simple
acknowledgement system for the teachers to
implement. We want to ‘catch the students being
good’. When a teacher spots a student using the
rubbish bin, being kind to someone else or playing
fairly for example, the teacher will write the
student’s name on a ticket which then goes into a
box. When the students line up at the start of the
day each Friday, one ticket for an infant student
and one for a primary student will be drawn. These
student’s will receive a voucher to use for up to
$2.00 at the canteen.
The students seem to be enjoying the
introduction of this change in the playground, and
we are hopeful that it will produce positive results.
I am off to Sydney this week with Lorelle
O’Brien to learn more about the effective
implementation and requirements of the Early Action for Success Strategy. This initiative is
designed to support teachers as they support their
students to achieve literacy and numeracy success
in the early years. Under the strategy we have
been funded for Lorelle’s Instructional Leader
position and are very excited about the possibilities
for further learning for both teachers and
students. Tracy Caldwell will be relieving Principal
on Wednesday and Stephen Manser on Thursday.
Just a reminder that we are still keen to
have you bring in anything you think might be of
interest for display during our 150 years
celebrations in October. Please see Bec at the
front office.
Have a terrific week.

P&C NEWS
Trivia Night
The P&C trivia night will be held THIS
Saturday, June 14th, in the primary hall.
So get your thinking caps on and be ready for a
great night.
Good luck to all teams!!
Crunch and Sip Corn – full of antioxidants (helps prevent
flus, colds, cancers and other illness), high in fibre
(keeps us regular – prevents constipation), high in
Vitamin C and folic acid which helps
prevent heart disease and also helps
develop healthy eye sight. Why not pack a small
cob of corn or a small container of corn kernels for
your child’s Crunch or recess?
Health Message The Vegie Challenge concludes this Friday,
21st. Students are being challenged to eat as many
serves of vegetables as they can during their time
at school (during Crunch, recess and lunch). People
of all ages are encouraged to eat 5 serves of
vegetables a day (a serve is approximately a
handful or 1 cup). Great vegie ideas for lunch
boxes include:
Corn on the cob or corn in a small dish; Cucumber or carrot sticks; Capsicum pieces; Cherry tomatoes (technically a fruit but we will
count it) Salad sandwiches/wraps or salad in a dish. Try to eat the colours of the rainbow!
If you have to, sneak some vegies into your child’s
food eg. diced tomatoes, grated carrot and/or zuc-
chini and finely diced onion in rissoles or spaghetti
Bolognese or lasagna!
FLUS AND COLDS During the last week, many students from K
-4 have received a small packets of tissues and
have been learning the best methods of stopping
the spread of flus and colds.
* CATCH IT – ALWAYS use a tissue when you
cough and sneeze. Also, cough into your elbow. This
way you are not coughing into your hand which you
then use to touch everything therefore spreading
the virus.
* BIN IT – throw the tissue away immediately
after use.
* KILL IT – WASH your hands.
Regional Cross Country
This Friday, June 13th, 14 students will
represent our school and zone at the Regional
Cross Country carnival in Coolah. We wish them
well and safe travelling.
Premier’s Debating Challenge
The Persuaders and the Arguers will debate
two teams from Ross Hill Public school, at Inverell
on Monday, June 16th. We wish them safe travelling
and happy convincing.
Too sick for school?
As the cold weather hits, so do the winter
bugs. It’s often hard to know whether to send your
child to school or let them stay home to recover,
especially when that means an adult will have to
cancel work.
For safety's sake, if your child seems unwell
the best advice is for you to always keep them home
from school and seek medical advice.
School A to Z and NSW Health have created
an at-a-glance chart to help answer your questions
about common childhood illness and how long sick
kids need to miss school. Find it by typing this link
into your web browser www.bit.ly/1hytn2E
Book Club
Book club is due back to the front office by
9am on Thursday, June 12th.
Reminder to visitors
When visiting the school and grounds for any
reason, we ask that you please report to the front
office first.
Exemption from Attending School
If your child will be absent from school and
you are able to give prior notice eg an overseas
holiday, you are encouraged to apply for exemption
from attendance at school.
Once a certificate of exemption has been
granted, absences covered by it are not recorded on
your child’s semester reports. In most cases the
school Principal is able to grant a certificate of
exemption from attendance at school and the
application process is quite simple.
