The Snow and the Snowdrop

When God created everything on Earth – the soil, the grass, the weeds and the flowers – He decorated them in all sorts of beautiful colours.

When He created the snow, He told her: 'You will search yourself for your colour because you hang out all over the world.' Când Dumnezeu a făcut toate câte sunt pe pământ – iarbă, buruieni și flori – le-a împodobit cu tot felul de culori frumoase.

Când a făcut zăpada, i-a zis:

- Să-ți cauți tu singură culoarea care-ți place, fiindcă tu umbli peste tot.

Then the snow went to the grass and told her:

'Give me from your so beautiful green colour, please'.

But the grass refused.

Atunci zăpada se duse la iarbă și-i spuse:

- Dă-mi și mie din culoarea ta verde și așa de frumoasă.

Iarba nu vru însă.

After that the snow asked the rose to give her from his red bright colour, but the rose refused, too.

Rugă, apoi pe trandafir, să-i dea culoarea lui roșie, strălucitoare. Dar, nici trandafirul nu voii.

The snow asked the violet to give her from her violet colour.

Zăpada îi ceru violetei să-i dea din culoarea ei violet.

She also asked the yellow colour from the sunflower.

No one accepted the snow’s request.

A cerut și din culoarea galbenă de la floarea-soarelui.

Niciuna nu ascultă rugămintea zăpezii.

The Snow and the Snowdrop

Very concerned and sad, the snow reached the snowdrop and started to complain saying:

'Nobody agreed to give me from their colour. Everybody is mocking at me and driving me away.'

Tristă și amărâtă, zăpada ajunse în dreptul ghiocelului. Către el își plânse ea durerea, grăind:

- Nimeni nu vrea să-mi dea culoarea sa. Toate își bat joc de mine și mă alungă.

The Snow and the Snowdrop

The snowdrop, being very merciful, got sad for the snow’s fate and said:

'If you like my white colour, I would gladly share it with you.'

The snow received the snowdrop’s gift with pleasure and she has been wearing a white coat, like the snowdrop’s ever since.

Ghiocelul, milos, se înduioșă de soarta zăpezii și-i zise:

- Dacă-ți place culoarea mea, albă, eu o împart bucuros cu tine.

Zăpada primi cu mulțumire darul ghiocelului și, de atunci, ea poartă veșmânt alb, ca al ghiocelului.

The Snow and the Snowdrop

As sign of gratitude, the snow always allows the snowdrop to pull his little head out of the snow layer as soon as spring shows up.

Drept recunoștință, ghiocelul este lăsat să-și scoată căpșorul din zăpadă, de cum începe să se arate primăvara.
