The soils: The origin of our wines
Alluvial soil made of similar proportions of sand, lime and clay
with larger size elements on the surface i.e. rocks and boulders,
that act as a protective layer from dehydration and over exposure
to sun. Vines from this type of soil produce well-structured and
concentrated wines with an emphasis of aromatic intensity,
showing mineral and fruity notes.
Loam soil with the same proportion of sand, lime and clay. The
wines from this type of soil are structured with a lot of color, flavor
and good acidity due to the low potassium content.
Stony, sand loam soils, with a top layer of small boulders and rocks.
The wines from this type of soil are fine, elegant and showing
fruity notes. In mouth they are fresh and vibrant.
Clay-calcareous and ferrous clay soils very appropriate for quality
vine growing, as they have a balanced structure (sands, limes and
clays). They are slightly alkaline, poor in organic material and with
a moderate water availability during the summer, supplying the
wines with unique characteristics.

Pilar and Carlos Martínez Bujanda, current owners of the Familia Martínez
Bujanda group, are the 4th generation of wine makers dedicated to vine
growing and developing high quality wines.
More than 120 years of vine growing and wine making
history guarantees the quality wines of Familia Martinez
Bujanda. This family group is formed by 4 different
wineries. All of them with a common denominator, the
philosophy to always vinify their wines from their own
vineyards. The constant search for innovation in the
styles of their wines has led Familia Martínez Bujanda
to acquire the best vineyards in each area, the essential
starting point for achieving the excellence and the
personality of their wines.
Rioja Wines:Tempranillo´s highest expression
Viña Bujanda owns 120 hectares of vineyards in different plots within the sub-regions of Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Alta, one of them near Logroño “El Seminario.”
Depending on the plot and where it is situated we can find clay lime soils (small vineyards with terraced structures) and ferrous clay soils (reddish and strong.)
The old age of the vineyards, between 20 and 60 years, and their superb locations, make it possible for them to count on the best quality of the Viura and Tempranillo grape varieties.
Viña Bujanda wines are Viura and Tempranillo’s highest expression. Viura and Tempranillo are the traditional grapes of the D.O.Ca Rioja. Following the market demand, they are wines of the highest quality yet with competitive prices.
Viña Bujanda
The wines of Viña Bujanda are fresh, with a good color and medium degree of alcohol,
based on Viura and Tempranillo grape varieties; always ensuring the constant quality and
innovation of the Familia Martínez Bujanda group.
The Viña Bujanda wine range is comprised of: A Young White, Red wines, a Semi-Crianza
with 90/120 days in barrel, a Crianza and a Reserva.
Viña Bujanda Viura: It shows flowery aromas, with a fresh mouthfeel and long finish.
Viña Bujanda Tempranillo: Medium-high intensity. Its aromas of black and red fruits
show up, while the palate is medium bodied with food friendly acidity.
Viña Bujanda Crianza: Medium high intensity, purple in color, it is an elegant and
complex wine. The palate consists of fresh strawberries and spice that age into flavors of
rich cherry and tobacco with a long finish.
Viña Bujanda Reserva: Medium intensity, deep purple with garnet highlights, this wine
shows spicy aromas of blueberries, leather, mocha and cocao. On the palate, it shows
round tannins, crisp acidity, and balanced body.
Viña Bujanda Gran Reserva: Intense cherry in color with blue highlights, this wine has
hints of woodwork, vanilla, cigar-box and spices with a rounded and long finish.
A new way ofunderstanding wines from Rioja
In the best area of the appellation D.O.Ca. Rioja, on a spectacular bend of the River Ebro lies Finca Valpiedra; one of Spain’s great terroirs. The stony soil of this 80 hectares. single vineyard estate holds the key to the quality of this wine.
At Finca Valpiedra the grapes are hand-picked followed by a strict selection process. After vinification the wines will age in French and American oak casks. As a unique single-estate Rioja producer with a rare geography, Finca Valpiedra is the only Rioja member of the prestigious Grandes Pagos de España organization.
Cantos de Valpiedra
Finca Valpiedra
Vinified exclusively with one of their most traditional varieties,
Tempranillo.
After 12 months of aging in French and American oak casks,
Cantos de Valpiedra stands out for its balance and its smooth and
seductive feel.
Cantos de Valpiedra presents a deep garnet core with blue highlights
around the rim. The aromatics of fresh cut Iris and sun-ripened
blackberries and black cherries are a testament to the gentle
handling of estate fruit and expert winemaking. The pure red and
black fruit nose is accompanied by intoxicating hints of vanilla and
clove coming from 12 months in French and American oak which
adds finesse and structure to this elegant medium-bodied wine.
22-24 months aging in French oak casks for a wine vinified with
Tempranillo, Graciano and Maturana Tinta gives Finca Valpiedra a
deep, red cherry color and garnet rim, with violet glints.
Intense and powerful aromas with hints of black fruit jams, white
chocolate, plums and spices. The oak, with the fruit, is very well
integrated, lending aromas of cedar and spices from the new
French oak. Very elegant, complex and suggestive.
A very powerful pass through the mouth with fresh fruit flavor.
The initial mouthfeel has a lot of backbone with no sharp edges,
rounded, with velvety and pleasant tannins, showing its finesse.
The wine has well balanced acidity with the alcohol and a long
finish with hints of earthiness.
Surprising, innovative, creative, Crianza wines from La Mancha
When the Martinez Bujanda family finally discovered Finca Antigua, they were certain that they had found a terroir that would allow them to express their creativity in the vinification of wines.
This vineyard has given them the freedom to innovate with new grape varieties and new styles of wine, and to continue in the tradition of vinifying exclusively from their own vineyards that are located in privileged enclaves. Finca Antigua classifies its land as an estate divided into small single vineyards. Each plot is tended individually and vinified separately. The philosophy behind Finca Antigua’s wines is clear: to obtain wines that reflect their unique high altitude location and terroir and are consisitent from year to year. (The vineyards are 900 meters above sea level —2700 ft.)
Doing the extraordinary is the winery’s signature, in that every plot is destined for making a different wine while guaranteeing a unique and incomparable style.
Crianzas
This range enhances the personality of each of the varieties
(Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viura, Garnacha) challenging
prestigious areas inside and outside of Spain.
Finca Antigua Viura, vinified of a very modern system of vinification
with long macerations, aging over lees and in bottle, is an aromatic,
unctuous and fresh wine.
The range of red wines, all under the “Crianza“ qualification, is
meant to show the real characteristics for each grape variety, after
aging in oak from 6 to 12 months, depending on the type of wine,
will provide complexity and longevity without glossing over the
true character of each grape. Known for their elegant fruitiness,
color, full bodied and persistence tastes.

Our new estate white wine (D.O.Rueda)
Familia Martínez Bujanda’s newest winery follows the same philosophy as those before it; to have their own vineyard located in a privileged enclave with a meticulous and careful vinification process. All this is more than necessary to reach the excellence and personality in their wines.
This winery has 25 hectares of vineyards at 750 meters high in altitude. This high altitude, combined with Rueda’s gravelly, nutrient-poor soil provides an ideal environment for preserving acidity and producing fresh and complex whites. The family vinifies each Verdejo plot independently based on soil type and age of the vine. This project reflects the Verdejo grape expression in a very special soil and climate: Finca Montepedroso.
The most authentic Verdejo
FincaMontepedroso
This wine is made from 100 percent estate-grown Verdejo that is
meticulously hand-harvested at night, keeping the grapes cool, as
they would otherwise be affected by the region’s typical daytime
heat. Fermented at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks to
preserve freshness, this Verdejo is then aged sur lie for five months
with weekly batonnage to provide additional depth and complexity.
Finca Montepedroso is a fresh yet intense wine, showcasing the
true varietal character of the Verdejo grape. A greenish yellow color
with lemon glints.
Clean aromatic ensemble, with high intensity. This wine features
notes of apricot, peach, fennel, green almond shell, and anise, with
hints of fresh-cut hay, smoke, and minerality. On the palate, it is
velvety with excellent volume, structure, and acidity.
