THE SPIRE

Well. It has

to happen

at some

time or an-

other in eve-

ry pastor’s

life when they are too sick to

go to church... which is unfortu-

nately where I found myself

last Sunday morning. At home.

And so, what do we do when

we cannot go to church? We

go to “TV” church! Here’s what

I found out. Tulsa is blessed

with a variety of Christian TV

stations to choose from!

I’ll be honest. It was a strange

feeling being home while you

were in worship. And let me

just say, I missed each of you.

But, while I wouldn't want to

trade Sunday morning “TV”

worship with being in worship

with you, I learned a lot.

First. For the most part, local

“TV” church (at least in our de-

nomination) doesn’t start until

11:00 am. I guess that’s when

the majority of viewers choose

to tune in. I found myself im-

patient waiting for the services

to begin!

Next. I did a lot of channel and

internet surfing. Some church-

es offered worship bulletins on

their websites if you wanted to

check that out before watching

them on TV. Others “live-

streamed” their services. You

can go to their web page and

not only watch Sunday morn-

ing’s services lives, but you can

also go back and see their pre-

vious Sunday services by date.

TV Church, live-streaming, on-

air radio time... whatever the

form.., if there comes a time

when we cannot be in church,

I’m thankful for the blessing of

Christian community.

What is the church? The word

church in the Bible comes from

the Greek word “ecclesia”,

which means a “called out

company or assembly.” Wher-

ever it is used in the Bible it

refers to people. The church is

not a physical building. The

church means you and I. And,

as the church, we were made

for worship!

1 Cor. l2:l3 says, "By one Spirit

we are all baptized into one

body."

The church is the Body of

Christ. You and I. Looking for-

ward to being back with you

this coming Sunday.

formal time of worship, fun,

Tommy. The teacher asked Tommy why he

wouldn't like to go to Heaven.

"Honey-do" List Growing! Our Church Needs YOU!

All homes require ongoing care and maintenance and our church home is no different! Many of our "honey-do" items can be completed by our church family. All it will take is a bit of your time and tal-ent. We have something for everyone to do: gen-eral cleaning (anyone can do that!), basic repair, plumbing, electrical, ceiling tile replacement, etc. A workday has been planned for Saturday, February 6th ~ 9:00-4:00 Lunch will be provided! We would like to assign people to tasks ahead of time, so you can get right to work when you arrive. Please contact Tonya Ford ([email protected]) or 918-688-8180) to let us know how you can help. Please make it a priority that day to spend some time helping our church family maintain our special home!

Corner

Come and

Dear Missy,

I know Exodus is the second book in the Old Testament. However, recently I heard reference to the Exodus House here in Tulsa. Can you tell me more about this mission outreach? Signed, Lost in the Wilderness

Dear Lost,

Great question! Exodus House is a transitional living program supported by the Criminal Justice and Mercy Ministries (a ministry of the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church). These are small apart-ment complexes where people newly released from prison can live with while they re-enter life successfully outside prison walls.

There are two Exodus Houses – OKC and Tulsa. Each Exodus House has a case manager and a facility manager. The facility manager sees that the apartments and grounds are maintained, while the on-site case manager helps residents get their lives restarted. The resident and case manager work with the court sys-tem, in addition, support is given with parenting classes, anger management classes, and counseling as needed.

The Exodus House in Tulsa is located at 2624 E Newton Street. This location opened in 2002. New Haven furnishes a one-bedroom apartment at the Exodus House in Tulsa – complete with linens, cooking and eat-ing utensils, decorations and furniture. These apartments are provided free of charge, except for the cost of electricity. Upon completion of the program, the resident may take all the furnishings and contents when they move. Once the resident moves, New Haven will paint, repair and replace items for the next resident.

Margie Chance is our current resident at the Exodus House. Please welcome Margie to the New Haven fam-ily. If interested in learning more about the Exodus House or would like to volunteer to help, then contact Jan Boyd at 918-691-1622 or [email protected].

Blessings,

Missy
