Imperialism- A policy in which strong nation seeks to dominate other countries
Nationalism- devotion to one’s nation
– “MY COUNTRY IS THE BEST BECAUSE I WAS BORN THERE”
Militarism- A policy of glorifying military power.

As European countries started to carve Africa and Asia, competition between European countries for more colonies played a role in propelling Europe into war.
RIVALRY

European countries compete to be considered as one of the Great Powers.
Compete to be better than neighboring countries.
Great Britain vs. Germany– Industrial dominance

To be truly great, must have powerful military

Rivalries grew in Europe so the solution was forming alliances between European countries
